I live in Korea right now! The food in this video isn't necessarily what people here eat on a regular basis. For example, lots of working Koreans skip breakfast or eat something simple, and food like fried chicken or jjajangmyeon are usually reserved for the weekends or special occasions. Jjajangmyeon and fried chicken are both typically delivery food/restaurant here, and you're generally not gonna see a Korean eating out for two meals out of the day lol. This is all amazing food that I love here though, and it was super cool seeing Inga make it!!

This might be super late but when picking Tofu, especially Korean Tofu from grocery stores, even though it says firm, in Korean it says "부침용", which means its for pan frying. You should look out for ones that say "찌개용", which means "for stew". It is labeled soft but still firmer than normal soft tofu outside of Korea. Also, the main difference between Jajangmyeon and Jaengban Jajangmyeon is that normal Jajangmyeon the noodles are not stir fried with the sauce and the sauce is poured on top. The sauce is also slightly different and is usually not thickened with a corn starch slurry for the Jaengban Jajangmyeon.

So being able to learn about so many new recipes in just one video is both fascinating and refreshing. Keep up the good work. 👍🏻 Also, it would be nice to get more specific. I loved learning that "jja-jang" means "fry the sauce"! I don't think we Koreans use it in that way lol -- "jja-jang" is just really used as the name for the black bean paste. LOVED this episode!
@krustykrab33772 жыл бұрын
Jajang (자장; alternatively spelled jjajang 짜장) is derived from the Chinese word zhájiàng (炸酱), which means "fried sauce". Myeon (면) means "noodles". The Chinese characters are pronounced jak (작; 炸) and jang (장; 醬) in Korean, but the noodle dish is called jajangmyeon, not jakjangmyeon, because its origin is not the Sino-Korean word, but a transliteration of the Chinese pronunciation. As the Chinese pronunciation of zhá sounded like jja (rather than ja) to Korean ears, the dish is known in South Korea as jjajangmyeon, and the vast majority of Korean Chinese restaurants use this spelling.

@@XevieEXxx Maybe a youtube channel will be good. "Panlasang Pinoy" is a great channel with tutorials of authentic filipino recipes. And I want to point out the show "Casa Daza" by Chef Sandy Daza. The show can be seen in the youtube channel "Metro". And the show has english subtitles. But there are other great youtube channels out there that has great filipino recipes too.

I was stationed in Korea from '78-'79. I fell in love with Korean cuisine. I would get some great food, and be full for about $3.

korean food is known for being very cheap for large servings. The creation of the dish Seolleongtang was ordered by the king so that they can feed a large amount of people with food scraps (ox bones, old rice, and green onions) and many street foods use cheap ingredients to make rich fried food
