Macky, the only dude that saves enough energy to coach his competitors on the lead group. Not trying to win on anything less than cycling performance or any sort of "gotcha" is pretty rad.

These types of vlogs are great, showing the races in a day by day way. Not sure if you would want to as it may be secret, but it would be great to have more info on the bikes and the set up you're running, and the race nutrition, before, during, and after, unless it is all tacos!

Nice race strategy. I was thinking the same thing you said at the end. You're probably a 2-3% increase in your FTP to winning this race. Completely doable in 6 months. Get it.
@willbros14993 жыл бұрын
Awesome race and equally amazing recap! Definitely "more awesome" on this one! When you were leading, I kept waiting for that invariable "Moab Moment" when you have no idea where the trail goes, and you end up having to stop, go back, and get back on the lines. That I saw, that never happened when you were leading or trailing, which makes me think "course knowledge" had to play at least some part, because that seems almost impossible at top speed! I didn't keep count, but there were multiple times when you had to time a hop just right to avoid smashing a wheel or going OTB, but you never wavered on the precision tech stuff, which is obviously where your enduro training paid off! I still can't get over how fast you guys were smashing those rocks on short travel XC bikes. Impressive! BTW...how many of those "Orange Seal" team members are there anyway? A host of them competed here in the OZ Off-Road Epic that you did here a few years back, and they had their team van running around for the week leading up to, and the week after.
@sydandmacky3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I know the day 2 and 3 stages fairly well and day 1 okay. Definitely helped with not losing the trail. I think there were 5 of the Durango guys at Moab Rocks and all 5 finished in the top 10. It's a super strong team and they're super cool guys!

great job!! really nice job. loved how raw this video was. curious, Macky, how much does weightlifting help your training?? Obviously, you're not training for size and bulk, but am curious how you train for strength for your type of cross-country style of racing??? vs enduro??? Thanks. Again, great job!!
@sydandmacky3 жыл бұрын
Lots of focus on posterior chain (glutes, hamstring, lats) to be able to properly control the bike and put in hard efforts when pedaling. I think it helps a lot in making me faster, safer and more confident in the descents and technical climbs.

Really enjoyed this series and congrats on a great race! The video is fabulous! How come my simple GoPro video doesn't come out like that? I get pixelating and artifacts at 1/10 of the speed you are going. Can you let us know how you get such clear video? Is it the encoding? bitrate? What's the trick?
@sydandmacky3 жыл бұрын
We use the "action" setting when recording, downsize to 1080p when recording and export at 50 bitrate. But depending on where you are, it could be the terrain. GoPros deal with simple terrain (snow, rock expenses, etc) and good light very well (that's why all the GoPro promos are skiing with blue skies). They don't deal with leaves on the ground (fall) or low light (dense woods) well at all...
@kevinlanchester423 жыл бұрын
