At the end these people are all individuals, with their own passion, talent and goals. The antifa guy could be a talented guitar player, that Alt-right guy could be an expert in history, the communist might be a talented fiction writer... But instead of seeing them as musician, historian, or writer. We see them as sub-human because of their politics and because they hold such political view it automatically evil. This is the sad state we live in. This should be what politics is about. It should be about people with all different thoughts sharing and discussing their ideas until we figure out what's the most sound decision. While others agree to disagree. It shouldn't be a fight for a group of mob taking over the entire stage and just have total control of the narrative.

Christy was my favorite because she was trying to speak with the tones, even though you didn't really teach the four tones of Mandarin. Small white towns are not necessarily racist like people would want you to believe. I live in a small white town, predominantly white neighborhood and it's quiet and safe. I also go to a traditional, predominantly white Church, I am registered in a predominantly white parish. No one has shown racism to me. Even at work, they want to emphasize diversity and being inclusive, but as the only SE Asian/Pacific Islander in the white office, I have never felt excluded (even before diversity was emphasized, when I started in 2014). They value my work, my voice, my skills, and they never excluded me from anything. I am the one who is a little more held back, since I love my privacy and the peace and quiet of being by myself. (They also know that I know Nihongo, Korean, Russian, Tagalog, Spanish and Hebrew, and that I am studying Mandarin and it doesn't intimidate them) Don't judge a town by its predominantly white demographic. I remember watching a trailer of a Mandarin Chinese drama and I was able to pick up the conversation. Then when I watched the trailer of a Hong Kong drama (Cantonese), I couldn't understand or even pick up on what they were saying. 🤣

You've never experienced racism? Damn, racism must not exist then, thats great to hear!
@mariatolentino45163 жыл бұрын
@@sheppee5608 if all you think about is racism, then you will see it. If you see yourself as a person and not as a [insert ethnicity, race, nationality] person, then you won't experience it. When there were white people whom I didn't particularly get along with at work (more like they seemed rather hostile), I just endured and said to myself that maybe they just didn't like me. On occasion, we end up getting along (I guess they just needed to get used to me). No racism. I don't think about it. A person of another race disliking you or not treating you properly is not necessarily racism. And a lot of city folk have the wrong impression of rural, predominantly white towns. I have lived in about three (one in California, two in Pennsylvania) even as far back as the mid-eighties and did not experience racism. People see what they want to see or perceive, or what others tell them to see or perceive. Once one starts thinking for oneself, one's outlook changes. That change in outlook also happens when one stops being offended by anything and everything.
@juliaj79393 жыл бұрын
There's nothing wrong with being a white town. That's like saying a town in rural China is bad for being Asian. I live in the town of Lake Louise and we get a lot of foreign tourists for our famous lake but few people enter our town. The population is all-white in the surrounding villages. Everyone at my school is white. And there's nothing wrong with that. I was also born in Poland and so racist complaining about white towns and cities in Poland would be racist complaining that there are too many Polish people in Poland.
@Firehot43213 жыл бұрын

I always thought one of the coolest things was in Chinese you write America as 美国, where 美 is the character for beautiful and 国 the character for country or nation. I'd so love to be able to understand Mandarin but have been studying Japanese for 2.5 years and that's enough of a challenge to probably keep me busy for a lifetime. But I envy Chinese speakers for how much easier reading must be when each hanzi symbol seems to have 1 or 2 readings while Japanese is such a mess with usually one or two 音読み but seemingly limitless 訓読み. I love the way Chinese languages sound with the tones. Maybe when I retire I'd be able to learn some 中文 in parallel with the 日本語 I study now. Wonder how much my Japanese knowledge would help considering so many Japanese words are loanwords from China flattened out into the Japanese sound system. And obviously there is a ton of overlap between kanji and hanzi.

heads up to you. the teachers as well as the students were benevolent. being able to learn the basics in not a lot of time is not an easy task. well done to the teacher but great job from the students. keep up the good work

This was a fun little experiment! I think its important to note, though, that just because someone may be friendly to one racial group doesnt mean they might act the same towards other groups such as blacks and hispanics, so its hard to fully declare whether anyone is racist or not from this series. But this was cool and love the video :)
@yokingstream10053 жыл бұрын
Facts, for some reason people pick and choose who they want to be racist towards, the people in the video seem decent tho thankfully
@lyingcat90223 жыл бұрын
So you are implying that if a group of African people walked around the town being friendly and asking people to attend a free Swahili class, that they would have been treated poorly? And would you be saying the same thing if these Chinese gentleman had gone to an all Black inner city and had the same experience? Would you say “Just because they were friendly to Chinese doesn’t mean they would have been friendly if it were a group of White people or South Africans…” And this is meant to be an honest question not an attack. Your hypothesis could be true :) I’m just always curious if people apply their judgment equally to all people, or only to a people of a certain skin color and demographic?
@yokingstream10053 жыл бұрын
@@lyingcat9022 You seem very confused, did you not watch what happened when a white guy held up a BLM sign in the same town, a random inner city is not known as “the most racist town in America” so that wouldn’t make sense at all for a comparison.
@kelseylovesart3 жыл бұрын
@@lyingcat9022 Hi Nick, Im not implying anything about how other races might have been treated by these people since I dont know them personally. Im only stating that since no other races were included in the video experiment, it only tests whether they are racist against Asians and not whether they are racist overall :)
@kelseylovesart3 жыл бұрын
@@lyingcat9022 I would love to see a version done with Africans and Swahili though. Or even Middle Easteners and Arabic
