Ife, even though was the spiritual home of the Lukumis (Yorubas) had no confrontation with the Oyos, because like other state, Ife was only a kingdom while Oyo was an Empire. If it wasn't for the first and second fall of the Oyo Ile (the Oyo Empire) I believe the there would have been a nation called Oyo, and if at all, Ibadan and not Ife would have been the capital city. Ife homes the stool of Odudua but wasn't inhabited by his defendant, Oyo did.

Oyo never had control over all of what we know today as yoruba. Owo, akure, ado ekiti, ondo, etc, were all closer to benin than to oyo. No one from akure paid tribute to oyo, it was paid to benin.
