Yoruba is primarily spoken in Nigeria, where it is one of the major languages in Nigeria. However, there are also Yoruba-speaking communities in other countries. Here are 10 foreign countries where Yoruba is spoken, along with what it is called in those countries:
Benin Republic - Yoruba is called "Anago"
Togo - Yoruba is called "Ana Ife"
Ghana - Yoruba is called "Yorùbá" (same as in Nigeria but the twi tribe).
Sierra Leone - Yoruba is called Aku or Oku
Brazil - Yoruba is called Nago
Cuba - Yoruba is called Lukumi or Lucumi
Trinidad and Tobago - Yoruba is called Oruba
Gambia - Yoruba is called Aku or Oku
Liberia - Yoruba is called Kru
United States - Yoruba is called "Yorùbá" (same as in Nigeria) in communities with significant Nigerian diaspora.
United Kingdom - Yoruba is called "Yorùbá" (same as in Nigeria) in communities with significant Nigerian diaspora.
Canada - Yoruba is called "Yorùbá" (same as in Nigeria) in communities with significant Nigerian diaspora.
In these countries, the Yoruba language is mainly spoken by members of the Yoruba diaspora communities who have maintained their language and culture outside their home town like Ibadan, Lagos or Eko, life, oyo, ekiti, ondo and abeokuta.

@@Allah_Loves_Forgives_and_SavesThey do, they're just lost to time. Actually there is no word as Yoruba. It has no meaning in the Yoruba language because it's a name that was given to us by foreigners. Mostly the Batonu people. Our original name is lost to time and some of our words as well. That's why the Yoruba word for onions today is in Hausa.

@emmanuelogundipe3328 there is something called borrowed words. We have shared some words with hausa people but not ur name. Yoruba is wiser than accepting what’s not their name and i fact they fought before the name was accepted.

Thank you brother for this history and connecting us back to our people. Surely, we need to bring our Yoruba People back home regardless whether they want to retain their adopted countries or the countries they find themselves. We have to make a case for this integration now. Our people should be brought back to their lineages in Yorubaland. We need to rewrite the dark history. The children of our ancestors should be brought back home from the Americas, the Carribbean, Africa and any part of the world they may find themselves. If there is any of people that does not want to come back we should confer Yoruba nationality on them unless they do not want the nationality I understand that some people would argue that Yorubaland in Nigeria is not stable at the moment to accommodate our ancestors coming back to the land. Yes, this might sound true but as people we have to lay foundation to achieve this home coming of our people because the dark history must be defeated and rewritten. Please, we do not have to wait to achieve Yoruba nation before we do this.

Yoruba have a long way to go., need to get back to where it was before the amalgamation of 1914, so it can prevail and outshine on is own potential. Yoruba Bigger than Africa

Hello sir, thanks so much for the feedback. I really appreciate it. First of all, I'm a Yoruba, I love our culture and heritage and I'd love to see the language spoken everywhere on earth. As regards the Yoruba language in Brazil, I can tell you for free that Yoruba is used in the Candomblé religion for prayers and offerings but not as an official language nor used in the classrooms. The Ooni of Ife and other stakeholders indeed made the move to make it an official language...truth be told, that's on paper but it's yet to be practical or a reality. However, the Yorubas can make it a reality because the Brazilian government can't do it without the help of native Yoruba speakers.@abinibihub
