Former eBay seller here. eBay doesn't take a cut of shipping paid. So a common tactic (that I didn't use mind you) is to put a cheap price on the item but charge $$$ on shipping. So say your item is normally sells for ~$100 and would cost $20 for good shipping. Instead of eBay taking a chunk out of that $100, you list it for $20 and offset the $80 to shipping. You still only spend $20 in shipping and just pocket the $80 extra.

@@Donut0389 You must have stopped selling on eBay 20 years ago, your shipping scam hasn't worked for a long time. The bit you left out is if the customer complained, you'd refund the item price but not shipping, hence all the $1 + $99 shipping items. eBay charges fees on the total price the customer pays. Listing a low price with high shipping only makes you show up first in the listing, and eBay tends to take a dim view of excessive shipping fees.

I wouldn't say fraud, but dishonest. That's definitely what they were doing was putting a high shipping price and hiding it under a lower buy price. In that case (especially how it was shipped), they should have just charged $130 (original buy price + the $90 they put for shipping) and just did free shipping. Same price and at least the bad shipping job he could have at least argued he did free shipping so it wasn't going to be great (still wouldn't have been a good excuse, but would have at least made more sense and come across slightly less dishonest).

That's exactly what some will do. I've seen people charging $15 to ship a Gameboy USPS standard and it'll just have a single round of bubble wrap in the standard $3 USPS box. I bought a GBA SP screen from someone outside of ebay (on his own site) for $5 and the shipping was $3 and it came in a standard USPS shipping bag in its own strong cardboard jewelry shipping box. Sellers think they'll get more money by hiding the fees inside of shipping. But eBay takes out of shipping because of folks trying to scam the system.

I hope you get money back. That kind of stuff happens sometimes. They needed quick money at that point of time, which they got. At least we saw soldering which is also very nice ;). Thank you.

I would retry reflowing the southbridge or reballing definitely able to be done.

Weirdest repair I ever had to do was an Xbox One, sold for parts or not working, the chief flaw listed being that it wouldn't go online. Upon cracking the case open, and removing the WiFi board, I found the problem: The last guy who worked on it didn't bother plugging the WiFi board into the motherboard. D'oh! Took no more cost nor effort than opening it up and plugging part of it back in. I think I paid maybe $90 back about 6-7 years ago, when OG Xbox Ones were still selling at a premium new.

Id be willing to bet the corrosion on the hdmi port was caused by their makeshift flux. Also i wonder if this wasnt a donor board or something, there was so many missing components

At the HDMI port I don't think there was liquid damage. That was probalby plumbers flux. Causes corrosion and discolering.

I was gifted a PS5 from my work. I've kept it on firmware 5.10, since getting it a year ago. I'm trying to wait patiently for the jailbreak to catch up. I can't imagine what series of events would bring someone to treat a PS5 like this.

They shipped all of that loose in a box... I'm surprised you received it at all and it didn't fall apart in transit.

All this time all I had to do was learn how to solder and I could have save all those games! I do some tinkering with electronic and computers. When it comes to stuff being wrong on the boards like this, that's where my skillset stops. I think I might learn now.

Sad that it was unrepairable. Not surprised by the amount of missing components and warped board. Don't know how this can end up in such rough shape!

I bought a ps5 for 60€ that had a problem with artifacts on the screen. The seller told me that it was always on vertical position. I put it in horizontal position and played with all of those artifacts, but for 60€ it didn’t bother me at all. And after 2 months it was perfect. It repaired for it self and it was the best buy i made so far.

Sellers like the one you bought from on eBay need to be held accountable! Some people make me sick!

For some of these projects without schematics people should take high resolution pictures of the boards one of a fully functional board and the other one with suspect parts and then compare them in Photoshop turn one semi-transparent and overlay them
