I’ve seen people that didn’t know how to draw at all improve amazing by practicing it everyday. But to draw or paint everyday you need to have passion for it. So it’s easy if you like it.

Super useful lessons I learned in the first 30 seconds without ANY sound. - use a gloss medium on paper before you paint, especially for paper not meant to hold paint. -use a ball point pen when doing graphite paper transfers because it GLIDES OVER the paper and doesn’t need to be sharpened -work from the darkest colours up -start around the eyes because they’re THE most important part of the face

I am mostly okay with using "shortcuts" in my art. But I also try not to use them all the time, because I think its important to practice basic skills like anatomy, perspective, line quality... I feel like it sometimes sucks having to rely on references, because they don't always match up with what I want to paint.
@huskieeeee
@huskieeeee 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t like sketching directly on my paper cuz I erase a lot and the paper is texture is ruined (I use watercolors) so I sketch first on normal printer paper and did the shortcut to transfer the sketch into the paper. This makes me feel less bad on using “shortcuts”
@r-pupz7032
@r-pupz7032 3 жыл бұрын
That's a really good idea, I struggle with erasers too and I often do watercolour so it's even worse, and it inhibits my painting as I'm scared to use lots of water or washes.. I can't believe I didn't think of transferring the picture after drawing it elsewhere! Thank you :D
@yeetngreet148
@yeetngreet148 3 жыл бұрын
What I do is create a basic gesture of how I want the image to be, and then use references to help me make the shape more realistic. They don’t have to be making the same pose or expression to be helpful. That way there is no pressure to replicate the reference, and you get the advantage of using one.

I agree. And with all the answers under this. I don't agree with tracing an image printed from google tho, unless it's for training and experimenting. I get it it's for a video and obviously, he knows how to paint, but to whoever sees this.. learn how to measure, anatomy, perspective, and the fundamentals of drawing rather than tracing a printed image from a random person from google. This is not art... it's copying. U are just a human printer. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️👎🏼

I remember when I started out drawing, years back, I thought "Oh I'll draw in these great 5x8 inch sketchbooks, that'll be nice and portable and I'll get better every day because it'll go with me. And I learned so quickly that drawing smaller is so much harder before you've gained confidence in how to draw accurately. I love that you bring it up in painting, that at such a small scale it's best if you've had experience and you understand what you're doing. That being said, totes did not stop me from trying to paint a small gemstone in my own moleskine the other day.

The nuance is incredible. Jack of all trades, Master of none is a saying in 🇺🇸. Some dumb asshole came up with that one. His skill level and French perspective proves that. Not every word is translated to every language. It would do the world good to be multilingual as the EU is if only for perspective. (Cough cough) 🇺🇸

I finally found a pro painter/ content creator that makes sense. I have been a pro painter since 1987, and am recently starting out on the content creation road. wanting to reach so many and help so many more than the students I physically teach. I have as you have, watched many channels creating art tutorials, to see how they do it. I have watched several of your videos and agree with much of what you say upon this matter. Its refreshing to see and hear a fellow artist, telling it as it really is and without dressing it up. many thanks and glad a came across your channel. best wishes Paul
