I tend to paint 1 mini on Wednesdays. Sometimes a second one somewhere else in the week. I started on September 22nd this year and got 21 painted mini´s right now. Each taking 3 hours of painting take or less a few minutes. (Not counting basing, priming and assembly) To me it's about quality and not quantity and I do want to play my blood bowl teams sometime in the future when the Games Workshops are allowed to run matches again.

Awesome! And inspirational - makes me want to get more done in 2022 than this year (226). Try a different kind of storage. They don't all need to be on display. Maybe try drawers - I use metal stationary cabinets (but only because I got them very cheap from an office that was closing). Ikea do some very neat wooden storage cabinets.

I've gotten into miniature painting this last year. Started with a box of Mansions of Madness figures. Finished most of the characters, but bit off more than I could chew with the bases. Finished only 6 of them. What really kicked it off were the statues/large figures from Etsy. First I did a Tali Zorah. First time sculpting, and painting the filigree was an experience. Then I constructed my part of my first Necron army. About 38 units. I painted the core box of Heroquest. About 30 models. Painted a pin up of Zelda. Then I went straight into a NMM purple on the army. I did a bust of Superman, and am now building about 40-50 Adepta Sororitas so my father and I can have a crusade. First year of wargaming, and I did 92 completed miniatures, 3 models that are between the size of a energy drink and a textbook, and built another 40-50 which I will paint soon.

I was afraid of painting for years. I have finished my first complete squad ever, 15 old school pewter plague marines. Painting 15 at once was way too much, lesson learned. I have been collecting my army since close to the end of 4th edition and only painted single models. I now need to paint 6 biker marines whose bikes I have also quasi finished this year. Only the marines left and some highlights on the bikes to call them finished. I also started with my Defiler and made a lot of progress. Not too shabby for finally getting my ass in motion, getting into kind of a groove and really starting to paint after all these years. I just wish I had more time and energy to paint more. Btw: Your videos played a not small role in getting me back into the hobby after a nearly 10 year hiatus. Cheers for that! Edit: I also finished a Ranger model for my girlfriends weekly Pathfinder game. She was the first of all their players to bring a fully painted model instead of a paper cutout. I was quite proud of the reactions the mini got.

I painted 157 miniatures this year (necron half of indomitus, some necron extras, csm start collecting, two big board games, and some extras). I could've got more done, but I slowed down in may. I had started using oil paints for the first time, but they took a lot of the fun out of the painting for me. it was a big mess to use them, and everything got nasty. the oil I used to thin the paints smelled bad and was gunky, and the models didn't turn out as good as I had hoped after many hours of painting. I might return to oil paints sometime in the future, but I really didn't like them. anyway, I barely got any painting done in june-august because I just wasn't motivated to paint. I started up again in september and painted up a board game. october-december I didn't do a ton of painting, I was really busy and everything I painted was characters for a board game so I painted everything one at a time and just painted 16 models in those three months

I had a couple of thoughts about two of the three mini's you were disappointed in. First, when GW did metal mini's they were usually spin cast with vulcanized rubber molds as those are usually better than silicone for handling the hot metal and less like to get damaged during castings. So you might be right about that mini being a recast. Second, when dealing with metal mini's like the lictors you can use high grit sandpaper to smooth various surfaces on the mini. I saw someone do that with an old Grenadier Frost Giant Princess, where they sanded the skin to smooth it out and it made a world of difference in the final paint job.

I managed to get 375 miniatures painted this year, which I think is about double what I painted the previous year. I've been in the hobby about two and a half years now, and although I'm not quite at your level yet, I've come pretty far from where I've started. I'd say by far my favourite thing I've painted this year is my keeper of secrets, it's a model I had admired since getting into the hobby and knew it had to be the centerpiece when I started my hedonites/chaos daemons armies. I'd say my least favourite things to paint were the blissbarb/slickblade seekers and blissbarb archers, both kits required a very steady hand to paint and had a lot of details which just ended up being more annoying to paint than satisfying, since they didn't look good just leaving them. Both kits took me a long time and really drained my motivation, I ended up finishing them just because I really couldn't bring myself to keep painting them, also it doesn't help that I haven't been able to get a game in with them as my friend group has lost interest in AoS. I'm looking forward to what next year will bring as I want to keep learning new techniques, this year I learned a lot and started blending with airbrushes and wet blending, next year I want to finally learn NNM as it's something I've been putting off for a while but I feel like I'm finally ready to try.

I painted 1434 models in 2021. But. The kicker for me is that I didn't keep hardly any of them. I throw the majority of what I paint on ebay to have extra money for anything I might need it for as the pandemic has surprisingly not hurt, but increased, sales of well painted miniatures. I also didn't paint any of them up to a particularly high standard. Just cranking out lots of borderline high table top/low display quality level stuff. Almost no free-hand, but lots of carefully applied and blended in decals for unit numbers, emblems, division patches, etc. I painted more armoured vehicles (mostly for Bolt Action, little 40K, little Legion) in the last year than I did in the previous 10 before it. Over 150 of that count are just tanks and various AFVs. I'm already over 100 models into the year as of a couple hours ago, more of the same. Legion, Bolt Action and BattleTech. This year, I hope to paint more stuff for myself though, in particular Fallout models, as I have a small and growing backlog of Fallout stuff, and I don't like letting stuff sit in boxes for long.
