"The eagle-eyed amongst my opponents will get a kick out of these pewter beauties" Translation: "I am going to get booted out of a GW store for using 'third-party' miniatures because even the staff won't recognise these antiques"
@akatoshslayer75993 жыл бұрын
The GW store in my area closed down after a comic and hobby store became far more popular as a choice to acquire models and play games. I don't think they are stacking their board with anything other than short term profit seekers and it is showing in the responses they are receiving.

It's interesting. In the novels I read the scarabs always skittered on the ground, until the new Swords of Calth where the scarabs flew.
@egziverpendlebury24313 жыл бұрын
Im a necron lore enthusiast, as well as a book enthusiast. Yes, you are remembering correctly, in most of the literature produced by GW they were described as skittering and crawling over and thru their enemies. However, you may note that they always had the ability to "fly" or float ever since the introduction of tomb worlds; where, in their first description, scarabs were the Necrons repair constructs and were described as floating thru-out the tomb worlds.
@EonsOfBattle3 жыл бұрын
in the 2005 necron codex there is artwork of a scarab floating, maybe that's the first instance

Jay: "Paint the rim of the base..." Me: "Black!" Jay: "Gray" Me: "HERETIC!"
@AzraelThanatos3 жыл бұрын
Quite honestly, a lot of the dull colors to blend in are something I've moved far away from for a while. With the bases, if you go for a bright color, you can both pick out which minis are yours easily and if you go with a brighter color, you actually get the odd hint of a tactical overlay from a scifi universe, something like the units in StarCraft where there's the light around selected units to make them stand out for you. It's something I first thought of after seeing how a friend painted up the AvP board game minis with a very easy method. All of the minis were based on some plastic canvas, the entire thing was hit with a black primer and a good flat black. The canvas got a worn metal, the minis got a mix of a highlight and drybrush only over the black with a neon color for each faction and the bases rimmed with a different neon shade of the color, the grating then got an ink glaze of the same color. It looked a lot like an older style game or like they were looking through screens tracking things from in universe. Never copied the entire thing, but I've started using brighter colored bases to unify my forces and make them more visibly mine in a lot of games...especially ones with less direct customization to them.
