Three big thumbs up! First to the young gal, awesome job! From a guy that restores cars, I love to see the younger generation doing this! Gives me hope for our future. Second, you have an awesome dad. Way to go pops! And third, Eastwood... you are a class act. Theres a reason I do business with ya guys.

Do you just prep it by using degreaser and water? What was that foamy spray?

Well that's the spirit !...I have a new shiny aluminum radiator that is going to clash when I build my custom tall jeep grille because I want my grille to be a silver metallic...with the radiator painted black along with most of the jeep, the silver grille will really stand out ....thanks for the excellent video !

What ??? No primer @ all ??? I'm about to paint my m/cycle radiator & have the Eastwood paint (like you used) - how has your paint held up after over a year?
@ElliesGarage Жыл бұрын
Sounds crazy, right? What we learned was that painting your radiator can be a delicate thing and that you don't want too much on the radiator fins especially. I'm assuming that primer would only add another layer for the heat to get through. Eastwood said they formulated their radiator paint to be thinner I guess? Anyway, it has worked well and has held up really well since we painted it. It's been about 2 1/2 years since we painted the radiator, with about 12,000 miles on Carl, and it has continued to look good. We actually just had to replace it because it got a pinhole leak, but you can see how the paint looks in the latest episode here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6OupJlrhs9sq6c

That looks great! So glad you painted it. Shiny aluminum radiators have their fans, (sorry, couldn't resist) but just don't look right in vintage cars. Cute pup, BTW.

Whether painting the radiator can interfere the functioning of the car engine?
@ElliesGarage3 жыл бұрын
Hi. We heard that could be an issue, but Eastwood's paint is supposed to be specifically made for radiators so that it doesn't get in the way of the radiator working. Check them out online for more. Thanks!

Great vid. Was the one can enough to complete the job?
@ElliesGarage3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! Yes one can was enough. We actually did 2 coats, and we were a little lighter on the fins of the radiator, but it covered really well.

Wont black paint draw heat from the sun?
@bikeclochard3 жыл бұрын
thanks for the video! Did you paint all in one coat or was it two coats with 30min in between coats?
@ElliesGarage3 жыл бұрын
Yes, two coats. We may not have waited a full 30 minutes in between, but we tried to make the first one a little lighter--If I'm remembering it right. 😅
@bikeclochard3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I just painted my radiator with one coat, I hope it will last ;)
@steamy12254 жыл бұрын
The reason other people told you not to paint the radiator is because the paint can act like an insulator and reduce heat dissipation. But the original brass radiator was painted black, so whats the difference? Right. Looks great.
@ElliesGarage4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! We heard about that, but the Eastwood radiator black paint is supposed to conduct the heat pretty well.
@steamy12254 жыл бұрын
@@ElliesGarage Excellent glad to hear that. .
@hummervs32784 жыл бұрын
You ABSOLUTELY want to paint an aluminum radiator with this paint or have it professionally coated. When new aluminum dulls, that is the equivalent of rust for aluminum called aluminum oxide. Aluminum oxide is a HUGE INSULATOR, way worse than the paint. Should etch it or at least do the vinegar wash to remove any al.ox. On it before painting for best results.
@steamy12254 жыл бұрын
@@hummervs3278 I do agree with the oxide on aluminium. But , for the sake of argument. All new cars from the last 20 years come with aluminium radiators, NONE are painted. I believe that the alloy they used is formulated to not corrode and cause overheating do to poor cooling in the radiator. I have a 99 Corolla with original aluminium rad and almost 200k miles on it. no cooling problems. i got a aftermarket aluminium rad in my Ford truck and Ford Mustang. No cooling issues and NONE are painted. No disrespect MR. Hummer VS just stating a fact. Painting or not the aluminium rad will work great no mater what. And besides, Ellie already painted the rad before we gave our comments. I think it comes down to preference. Nuf said.
@d0peshow3 жыл бұрын
Have you noticed any effect on cooling after the paint? Regardless, I subscribed. Great video!
@ElliesGarage3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! When we did this video, we hadn't started Carl up since the engine rebuild, but since then no issues with cooling.

Doing a good job there kiddo. FYI, if you need a good degreaser, DAWN is fantastic!! I use it all the time, even before paint jobs.
