So many people criticising the colour of the mortar. He was getting the materials supplied by the developer. If he was getting the sand and cement from different suppliers it is impossible to keep the finish consistent. Unfortunately Darren made the mistake of trusting the developer! I am sure if he was responsible for ordering the materials everything would be fine. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall listening to some of the conversations. I bet they would have got heated at times and been very entertaining!! I bet Darren has learnt a huge lesson on this job and will never be so trusting in future! Wishing you and your team a very productive, prosperous and Happy New Year❤

@@AlbertJackson-h9k Hello Albert, My comment only related to the relationship that Darren had with the developer and a possible explanation for the slight variation in the colour of the mortar.(which will in time probably weather out) I made no criticism of anything else. The point you make about the scaffold I think is a bit unfair! Part of the reason Darren walked away from this job was the working conditions. This included the scaffolding. The incident you refer too was part of the problem. Darren was just trying to keep the job going. He would be the first to admit the situation was not ideal. However Im sre you will understand that when you are so far into a job and responsible for paying your staff. Surely you can see the pressure he must have been under! When you criticise the workers not feeding him with materials correctly. This was also unfair. Darren has taken the responsibility to train these young men. They are inexperienced apprentices and trainee's. They are learning and have to start somewhere! Darren is always tutoring and correcting them. I'm sure if you watched more of his video's you would see the great attitude, willingness to learn and work ethic they have. They weren't born with all the knowledge to become tradesmen they have to learn it and it takes time! I have no affiliation to Darren and am certain he is more than capable of looking after himself. However as a retired Plumber with over 50yrs experience in the UK l have nothing but respect for his attitude to work and training his staff. I can see from the comments you have made that you are obviously an experienced tradesman. However sometimes you just need to chill out and look at the overall picture. I have been watching Darren and his team for a few years now. It is clear to me that he is a skilled man with a good work ethic and respect for his customers. Some of the reasons Darren left this job are the same reasons you yourself are highlighting. Anyway don't wish to offend, have a good and prosperous New Year 👍👍

@@AlbertJackson-h9k Hello Albert what a lovely reply! You sound like a thoroughly decent chap and I'm sure anyone reading this would take your original comments the way they were intended. I suspect you were just trying to make sure everyone stays safe! There are enough injuries in our industry as it is. If you do watch more of Darren's video's I'm sure you will see he is just an honest general builder trying to do his best. Anyways have a great day. We both seem to have had a similar background like you my Dad took me to work when I was a child. He was a Plasterer and through him I experienced how important it is to have a good work ethic and to stay safe.

Hope you all recover quickly, horrible colds and bugs going around. This client is a classic on how not to do it. 12mts behind 25% + over budget, huge loss of rent, it all could have been avoided by listening to someone who knows that they are doing. Well done walking away from this.

Thanks Darren. Interesting to see the outcome of a client who knows best 😂😂. Makes me wonder if they employed the builders from next door 🤔, might explain the lack of progress on both jobs. As you say, not your problem now. As long as you didn't lose out too bad 👍🏼👍🏼

I'm sorry to hear that you and your family were ill, and I hope you all feel better soon. Thank you so much for the update on the house. I'm not surprised that contractors don't want to work for that developer. Surely, the developer will lose at least 5,000 per month on rent starting from today (when you would have finished the build), so his overall costs will probably be 50,000 to 100,000 more than they would have been if he stuck with you. Some people just can't see the forest for the trees.

@darrenthebuilder14 күн бұрын
Builders next door started small extension and renovation 2 months after we started foundations and they are still Not finished their work. They had a bigger crew than us and am yet still ain’t done. So who is really slow? Their build was SIMPLE, cut corners everywhere, no BC on their loft. Ours int he other hand much more difficult project, much larger, client changes constantly as well as a lot of wasted time on lack of or wrong materials and we still would have finished before them. Atleast speak about what you know otherwise don’t.

Well Darren I love your channel and i'm a subscriber but the disagreement with your client could have been alleviated had you employed a proper bricklayer. You spent so long on briclaying that it must have far more than expected just build the shell of the house. Ypur client must have started to question his choice and this was compounded when the brikclayer crew next door showed up. As a builder the total clearing of the space should also have been your priority then the foundations and so on but using your crew for at bricklaying was a big mistake. So in short Darren even if you had the total control over spending you would have failed to keep within budget. You have a great crew but none of them is yet up to tradesman standard. Maybe every time you have a big job get a proper tradesman who can show the ropes to one of the guy showing affinity for that specific trade . I applaud your effort to form the guys but like everyone you have your own limitations. Darren the progress on your jobs are to slow to be efficient and not every customers appreciate what you're trying to do for the lads. I do. I wish you all the best. May the force be with you skywalker!
@davidreilly103112 күн бұрын
The chaotic appearance tells you all you need to know. The order of trades has broken down, now all sorts of random traders will be brought in to do bits and bobs. Some time they've got to pay to have scaffolding put back up to clad the dormer. That timber on the gable end is a joke, clearly employing unskilled people. After giving notification I no longer wanted to work for a developer, months later he was texting me to come back because he had realised how trustworthy I was. Pity he didn't show his appreciation at the time. An old builder told me: "some of the best jobs are the ones you don't get." Meaning you'll never know how lucky you were not to get involved with a terrible client.

Looking at the overall site I do not think the developer has found a builder to take on the whole contract to finish. It looks like he is getting guys in on day rate to progress as directed - hence no one interested in getting rid of waste and keeping a tidy site.

Trust the cameraman, if he's shown you a vid from before, then cater to him... coz the truth is trying to cut corners, ends up costly. Plans are made by professional, when you go off script, professional have no choice but to leave
