As a Slivers player in modern the ability to ward out opponent with diffusion sliver and unsettled mariner was good enough as well as getting wide and big with lords. Got 5th at RCQ pre-fury ban on losing to a fury off fable. Creature decks are so back

Pro tip from an Ex Humans player (I play Flesh and Blood these days) in game 2 of match 1, you could have played the Lieutenant first and vialed in the Champion in response to the trigger, they see themselves entering and would both get buffed up

I would be interested to hear why you played anointed peacekeeper rather than Elite Spellbinder. I think the 1 toughness of Paulo is rough, but if you are concerned with closing out games faster, Paulo has evasion. I understand playing a 2-2 or 3-1 split because AP hits activated abilities, but he doesn't have evasion and tax leaves when he does. Interested to hear your thought process

Taxing abilities feels stronger - makes it impossible for people to activate Oko, Teferi or Lili on curve - and you can also name Fetchlands to really mess with people's mana.

Would it be a situation where you play Paulo in the SB? On the play, AP can throw off the Oko, Lil, and 3'feri, but on the draw, AP doesn't seem as good. I mean, part of the problem is just play-draw advantage but I think I see where you are coming from. I love D&T, so anyone brave enough to play it in 2023 MTG is good with me. This might be a hot take but the quality of the average modern playable creature isn't what it used to be in 2013. And I think that is a good thing Between ETB's, LTB's, Cast Triggers, etc. Going 1 for 1 with your opponents creatures isn't always good enough. Fury hurt creature decks. Absolutely, but I genuinely believe that even outside of fury, the issue with creature decks is not that they die to fury, its that your creatures just aren't good enough anymore. (i.e. dark confidant). Some X/1s do exist in modern, the difference is that they do meaningful shit in a game. Unfortunately that is how power creep works, whether we like it or not.

No one is over here in 2023 trying to make Dark Confidant playable. Come on, man. That card hasn't been talked about favorably for YEARS. People are using NEW creatures that are worth using, that still die to Fury. The problem isn't Fury itself; what Fury does is actually pretty cool. The problem comes from the fact that Fury is FREE. We can all sit here and act like pitching a Red card is a cost, and years ago it would have been, but it isn't anymore. You add to the above the fact that bounce spells that are ubiquitous now, that BUFF Fury, while allowing a second activation of his ETB, gives a player the ability to deal up to 8 damage and get a potential 4/4 Double Striker on board, and you have a problem. When people defend Fury, they clearly play Fury, or were never affected meaningfully by Fury. Or they are casual players who don't care whether or not they win or lose and have no skin in the game at all.

I don't wanna be the one who states cards need to be banned without prior knowledge but based on the knowledge I do have I feel that even with fury and beans banned the format is still super warped I honestly think that the rest of the evoke elementals need to go so does leylines binding as well as the force cards I'm placing most of the emphasis on force of negation decks they say are top tier are kinda trash like hardened scales and amulet titan amulet is just too glass cannon and hardened scales has too much hate boseiju force of vigor and haywire mite just makes playing the deck nearly impossible imho the format is now a cluster fuck of combo decks and some creature decks that have combo elements like goryo and elves

I could see Grief eventually getting banned if the Fury ban doesn't slow down Scam enough. Or hell, maybe a mono Black deck devoted to Discsrd becomes super oppressive because of Grief, and that causes it to get banned. That's more of a wait and see. As for the remaining Evokementals, there simply isn't a need to do anything about them. Solitude is actually a massive help against something like the Emrakul cheat decks that come along every so often. It's also useful against creatures that would otherwise evade standard Instant or Sorcery speed removal. Endurance is rough against GY decks. It's also great for quickly running through your own cards and not decking yourself. It can be strong, but only in the right circumstances. It isn't meta defining. I suppose that were a day to come along that made it so, we could revisit it. As for Subtlety, don't even make me laugh. That card certainly has some.nivhe uses and I genuinely like it in the right deck. But it's far and away the weakest of the cycle, and has NEVER been strong. With the Evokementals out of the way, let's discuss Leyline Binding. On the one hand, I love the fact that White has something that is so powerful removal-wise. It just screams a modern day Swords, except it can hit anything. However, being an Enchantment, it can be dealt with, and Modern has plenty of options to do so. I'd say the biggest issues is that it does way too much for a single White mana, even with the Domain restriction. That "restriction" is more of a suggestion in Modern really, since any deck can easily meet the requirement. That said, it CAN be dealt with through removal.

I hate it that people say creature decks were not play able. Yawgmoth was top 3. Scales was top 4 deck. Zoo was one of the top 10 decks that are creature decks that were playable while fury was allowed. What you all mean are swarm decks not creature decks. Also a blue red deck that starts with drc is 90% murktide not prowress

No dude, we mean creature decks. There are plenty of creatures out there that couldn't see the light of day because of Fury. For example, I had an interesting 12 dork build since MH2 introduced the Ignoble Hierarch. It, along with BoP and Noble, were the basis for a ramp deck that looked to play bigger threats. In an effort to really maximize the mana dorks, I also ran a playset of Kinnan, so that the dorks doubled their mana production with him on the field. It actually worked extremely well, EXCEPT against a Fury player. And this was right at the time where Modern was settling after MH2. It pretty much fucking sucks to have a single card, that is cast for free, wipe your entire board. That is literally the definition of making creature decks unplayable. Now, we can tall about whether the fun little deck I built was top tier or not all day long. That isn't the point. The entire draw to Modern was being able to play what you want to (within reason) so long as you understood the meta. Well, guess what? I did understand the meta, and Fury was NEVER going to allow that deck to shine. I've already rejoiced, knowing that I can actually play it, and not have to face an opponent who wipes my board and is also given a three turn clock for 1 mana. Moving on from homebrews like mine, I had every intention of building up some Humans, Elves, and Merfolk as well. There simply wasn't any point in doing so, as Fury made it impossible to play against. I can agree with Elves being a swarm deck as you called them, but Humans is a lot more about tempo and proper sequencing of plays than it is about simply swarming. Merfolk is even more tempo, and can't really be called a swarm deck at all. The problem with Fury was never about what it did to the board with its ETB. It was about the fact that it did what it did for FREE, and then did it again (whether necessary or not), while leaving a 3/3 base Doubke Strike creature on board. It did so for all of ONE mana. Three cards to wipe your opponent's board, and leave a three turn clock behind, with the path already cleared, was hugely problematic. The only people who ever defended Fury were the people that leaned on Fury as the crutch that it was.

My Point is there were still creature Decks that were playable and in the top Decks. Merfolk went to 0 on pro Tour Lord of the Rings IT was playable. IT played only vs scam on that pro Tour and won it all. I do Not say Fury Ban does Not give the way free for Other creature Decks but to say creature Decks were generaly Not playable is wrong. There were 3 creature Decks in the top 10 Decks of the Meta. Or do you want to say Zoo scales yawgmoth are No creature Decks? So yes without Fury there are more creature Decks viable but to say there were No creature Decks because of Fury is Just Not right The Merfolk Player on pro Tour did Not make Tops because He lost all games in draft. We have a 80 man Tournament each month Here and Merfolk was in top 8 nearly each month IT was playable under Fury in my eyes And to BE clear im pro Fury Ban all i say IS the "creature Decks were Not playable" Thing is Just Not right. I myself would also Count Hammer and scam itself as a creature Deck But did Not Count them Here because i can See how people say that they arent. Also i Love to Play creature less controll Decks Like uw wich are basicly Out thx to Double thoughtseize First Turn the Point why No one is crying about that is that they are Not that popular with the more Casual oriantated players

@@michaschulz5182 dude way to be fucking pedantic. NO ONE SAID THAT NO CREATURE DECKS WERE PLAYABLE. What people said was "creature decks aren't playable." Everyone who has kept up with the meta KNOWS that Yawgmoth was good, primarily because it doesn't care if you kill its creatures because a lot of them come back. Merfolk has always been a mid deck, so I'm not sure what national high profile tourney you're talking about where they won it all. Or do you mean at your LGS against bad players, a Merfolk deck won? Who cares? That's anecdotal. As for Zoo, yeah it got ripped the fuck apart by Fury, but sure Zoo was playable. Hardened Scales was never not playable. It just wasn't necessarily good. Fury needed to go.

Nowadays modern is Like legacy 6 years ago and Pioneer is Kind of what modern was once. (Even from the prices XD my modern Decks now cost the Same AS my 43 Lands Deck 6 years before did while the legacy Decks are unpayable nowadays. @@michaschulz5182 I've been telling people for years that WotC was pushing the power level of Modern to be more like that of Legacy, since Legacy is basically dead in paper. I personally don't have a problem with that, as I'd play Legacy if I could afford to. I'm all for Modern being the new Legacy, but Legacy has things that Modern doesn't, so Modern still gets hit by cards like Fury warping the format. I also agree that Pioneer is effectively what Modern was all the way back in 2011. It's a place to go to play your cards that have rotated out of Standard, without the insane power levels that Legacy and Modern currently have. That said, power creep being something that Wizards refuses to slow down on, one day Modern may be as busted as Vintage, and Pioneer will become the new Legacy, while they introduce yet another format to be the format that you play to use non-Standard legal cards.

Fury was NOT fun for the person on the opposite side of the table, dude. I can assure you that as someone who had to stop playing several decks because of him, that it absolutely sucked to not be able to do anything at all. If you play everything to the board, Fury wipes it. Whether it's four X/1s or two X/2s, or some combination, it didn't matter. It could kill bigger creatures as well if needed because of the bounce. It was not fun to play against.
