It doesn’t bring you along the “assassin story” in the same way that BF does. BF isn’t a “pirate simulator”. Yes, Edward is a pirate, but along the way he develops into a master assassin. Kassandra is a much less developed main character who lives in a time where the assassins didn’t even exist. Odyssey is a great game, but it is much more of an era simulator in comparison to BF.

This is an interesting video showing the lines between generations. I was in college when assassins creed 3 came out and the only part my friends and I remember are the beginning because we felt it got so slow after that and the twist was awesome with Kenway. It wasn't really Connor that was the issue...it was the pacing overall, particularly the beginning of Connor's journey. I'm sure you researched this a bit and know that, but the hype for the game was real after assassins creed 2 because brotherhood and revelations just didn't have the same buzz about them despite good ratings. Also, it is crazy that the first assassins creed didn't hold up as well because at the time that's all we could talk about. It was up there with halo, bioshock, fable, oblivion, and fallout in terms of games everyone had.

Everything up to Unity is pure gold. Ezio saga is legendary. We witnessed whole life of a game character from birth to death. We lived what he lived. From rebellious teenager to a master of the order in Rome to a wise man dying peacefully. For AC3, I don't get why it gets hate. It was so good. The revolution story was amazing. More importantly the depth of assassins and templars, anarchists and tyrants. This game and Haytham made me understand neither side is right one. Achilles' and Desmond's death made me shed a tear. The story of Desmond, past and future, was amazing and Ubisoft made a wrong choice ridding the old animus and Desmond too. I have no words for AC4 but sea shanties. A masterpiece. Ac Unity was the smoothest game I have ever played. The parkour, the hidden blade kills, Arno's story. It was most fun ac game next to ac4.

2 is my favorite, admittedly mostly for nostalgia. Especially for the time it was so good, I pity anyone who missed out on that. It’s the one that brought the series to the masses, and that’s because it’s just a damn great game. 4 is also great. I also did think that 3 was underappreciated. Unity is when I kinda fell off for a bit. Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla are good games but they are different beasts. I prefer the way the older games did things with the smaller broken up maps, and the focus on story and stealth, catacombs/caves and upgrades/collectibles. I’ve heard Mirage is a return to that style of play so I’ll probably be checking that out at some point.

3's problem was that it couldn't possibly stand up to ezio trilogy. And for a long time after Revelation, that was the problem. I remember being hyped, and hoping for a character as interesting as Ezio, interestingly historical characters and a setting as glamorous as renaissance italy. Instead, we got AC3, which was just fine. Unity's problem was optimization. It also came out around watch dogs which had a serious downgrade. People started to hate Ubisoft for all the lies and such.

Odyssey was a lesson to me on how much I'm willing to value thematic appeal. I was on board from day one with the Ancient Greece bit just because I grew up reading Percy Jackson. But the more I tried to experience the gameplay, the more it felt like it was asking me to have already put 30 or 40 hours in. Halfway through the story when I want to start finding secrets, it wanted me to be around level 50 in the areas I wanted to explore--which won't be achievable until new game plus. It sometimes led to a very memorable moment where I stood atop a large column crafting arrows to fire endlessly at a boss-level lion guarding a chest with the trident spear skin that I wanted, but the more I thought about this experience the more I feel like my time was wasted exploring a pretty sparce world just so I could get the xp to engage with what I actually wanted to engage with. The mercenaries mechanic that they copied from Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor was amazing though, and I have no notes.

I'm a bit of a completionist, so I finished everything in Syndicate, but I couldn't do it for Odyssey. It just felt like you were constantly grinding and grinding to level up to be ahead of the enemies. But I LOVED playing as Kassandra. I'm now on Valhalla and the fact that it came out right after Vikings (tv series) ended, fed my soul for more viking stuff. But I do love Valhalla a lot. Just that, as you said, it's SO HUGE. i don't think I'll be finishing it any time soon. But right now, midway through, I hate the Asgard and Nifheim side stuff. Like why put it in the middle. Why couldn't you wait till at least I'm done with England. At least I can pause it, and continue raiding in England. But I dislike that I know I have something else to do mid-way. I also loved giving a female protag the big spot light, and seeing her overcome obstacles and fight to keep her family together? Something I find really interesting about the original AC is that it was meant to be played without a HUD. I tried it once and found it actually becomes a much more interesting game. It forces you to pay more attention to the information you're gathering and to the city layouts. I found playing without a HUD meant I ended up meticulously planning out the assassinations including exactly how I'd get away and vanish again. It makes for a much more assassin-y game. AC2 has a cooler setting and better characters, but AC1 might be my favourite in terms of games design

@@xavieranderson3691 The issue I had with it was that, while it does make some sense considering the spacing between buildings in London during that era, it's implementation wasn't done right. Perhaps this isn't the right phrasing, but it made the game feel too 'easy' and not fun at times. It definitely took away from the fun of AC parkour when, instead of planning a route/climbing up a building, I could just skip all of that and got straight to the top. You could try and not do it in a playthrough, but a lot of the navigation up a building is designed specifically do be done primarily with the grapple which, at best, makes actually climbing feel somewhat tedious as the scaling isn't mapped for vertical parkour as much. I think, like suggested in this video, it would have been better if it was only able to used horizontally or as a way to get down quicker, not up. In a weird way, by making it's use available in every situation, it actually made the gameplay feel more limited than freeing.

The thing about Connor is that he may not be Ezio, but he had some pretty cool charm that we saw in the homestead missions and when talking to recruits
@MrVvulf Жыл бұрын
Most video gamers are way too lazy to do research into the communication styles of Native Americans. I did. What I found is that Connor may be the most thoroughly researched and well portrayed protagonist in the AC Universe. Here's an excerpt of what I discovered: Rules for Communication in many Native American cultures - 1. You should know someone well before speaking to them for long periods of time or confiding in them. 2. Children should not display themselves verbally in front of adults. 3. It is inappropriate to express emotions in public or around people you don't know very well, verbally or non-verbally. 4. You shouldn't ask direct questions or expect an immediate response from people you don't know very well. 5. It is inappropriate to verbally discipline or praise a child in public. It should be dealt with in private/quietly. 6. It is inappropriate to speak FOR someone else, no matter who that person is. Everyone is titled to their own opinion, even a child. 7. "In Indian conversations, it is not the person who speaks first who necessarily controls the topic. This is because an immediate response to what someone has said is NOT always expected, but may be delayed. The respondent therefore has control over the topic by choosing WHEN to speak and what to say." Other rules consist of: Do not signal someone out directly, do not compete with answers, no answer can be said it is wrong, and do not gaze directly at someone the entire time they are talking. These rules and communication aspects of the Native American culture can cause problems between other cultures trying to communicate with the Native American Culture. @@MrVvulf 1. Not all Native American cultures were the same, but I'm guessing these relate to those in that part of America. 2. Whilst he may reflect an accurate depiction of how the culture works, that doesn't actually make a particularly compelling main character. Especially when it isn't explained and he never has proper interactions with many other native Americans. He's not a particularly memorable protagonist in the series for most people. 3. When AC3 was released, Smartphones and personal computers/laptops were a lot less commonplace. People outside of America are very unlikely to have any books on the subject in any libraries where they live as it is a very niche subject. The world of AC3 has many eccentric characters and famous figures and Connor feels rather bland by comparison. This isn't inherently a bad thing, but people just came from 3 back to back Ezio games. It's certainly a lot better than having an annoying protagonist, like Fallout 4. Rule of thumb, don't rely on people having prior knowledge to appreciate something. Show/explain it naturally and people aren't going to want to research something further if they aren't gripped by it. Compare this to Origins where there are plenty of things throughout the game to inspire further research into the subject.

They made ac2,brotherhood,revelations and then every sequel had missing features in parkour or combat and very few new mechanics. Odyssey was finally when I felt like I was playing a new game

The first AC game I actually fell in love with was Bloodlines on the PSP. And I 100% agree with you man. Its just more of the original. But I had so much fun with that game. Great vid pal.

This game was awesome to me. I have 100+ hours in this game, I completed like everything. I always loved the Ancient Greece and Sparta so the story line just hooked me but DUDE the Atlantis DLC was AMAZING!!

With Odyssey I had a love-hate relationship and you're probably at that point of the game where you just hate it and i feel you. At first, I loved it... The intro was awesome, the tutorial missions on Kephalonia were a nice way to introduce you to the game and the world. And also made you really curious about the rest of the unexplored Greece. Then at around middle of the game I was hating it. Felt like just doing chores and get things done from point A to point B on the map. I am a completionist so that didn't make my life any easier with this game. Then I ended up loving it again. Spending so much time with Alexios, I started growing fond of him. And the more I got deeper into the story, his interactions with the other characters like Phoibe, his mother, Brasidas, Barnabas, Herodotus, even Sokrates, his interactions with the random NPCs in side quests, made me really sympathize with Alexios. And the fact your sister(or brother, depends who you play with) being the antagonist made the story even more interesting because you always had the choices to either save your sister from the dark path or just kill her. I was set from the start to save her from the dark path and for me it felt like a really emotional adventure. Also, both DLCs (The Legacy of the Hidden Blade and Antlatis) were great addition and it really completed the canon story of the AC world. In LotHB we get to see the how Alexios/Kassandra and Aya are related and in the Atlantis DLC we get to see how Juno and Aita turned evil and how important the Staff of Hermes is. Now I really like to look at Odyssey with different eyes than I am looking at pre-Origins games. It is a different AC game but it is a good AC game in the end

Man I will never forget how I started my AC journey. I owned and played the first one and it was aight, then one day I was in the movie rental shop and saw the sequel. Rented it for one weekend and it blew my 10 year old mind at the time. I have played every main line entry since lol.

I'm so happy with the rating of Unity. For me it's the best one of the series so far. Peak mechanics, good story. Really wanted the series to follow up with the same mechanics and world-buiilding. The map was amazing too.

Unity still holds up today in my personal opinion. Especially with the mods ACU fixes to make the game better. The graphics, animations, and fluidity is just beyond its time. It’s hard to believe it’s already been 9 years (2014) since it released. Even playing it back then, I felt weird doing so because it blew me away as a kid 😂. Nowadays it’s RDR2 and TLOU2. Even then, Unity STILL blows me away. Every point he makes I agree! I couldn’t have said it better myself! Unity feels like such a strong potential point, but got lost like some ancient artifact. And we may never see such things again…until Ubisoft recovers it 😂

I disagree wholeheartedly with the story part for that game. It’s probably the worst in the entire series. The whole reason for reliving arno’s memories is completely null at the end of the story and that sucks. It makes the whole game feel like a waste of time.

Unity is my favorite AC game. Story we good and I loved how the combat was punishing to implore you to engage in stealth, and the parkour was amazing to watch and play

When the AC players needed him he came back. Finally a deep diagnosis of what ails the franchise and what makes the franchise great.

I noticed that I enjoy the RPG games more the more I play them. With some time inbetween ofcourse, proving to me that nostalgia is a big part in this kind of ranking. I really like Odyssey because Greece is so mesmerizing to me, the first time I played it I couln't bear the demigod build and the overall indestructible aura around Alexios/Kassandra. In terms of gameplay it's up there with Black Flag, Unity and Origins, at least for me.
@sanya365 Жыл бұрын
Same. I didn't really understand where the abilities came from or why the weren't really explained until I played through all the DLC. It answered so many questions that I had. I love Greek Mythology so It's been my favorite open world Assassins Creed next to Black Flag. Not to mention getting to fight the Cyclops, Medusa and the Minotaur. Some of the best DLC I've played in a while was in Odyssey.
@R3TR0J4N Жыл бұрын
Same, Odyssey is full of historical tidbits with points of interest that pique players' interest (discovery tour ) making open-world exploration rewarding for me as an open-world and an arpg fan, notably, it's an improvement of Origin gameplay. I empathize with Bizly seeing it could be the openworld fatigue of playing all the AC games, and based on the scale of Odyssey, I haven't even finished the game yet or am willing to try Valhalla. edit: i appreciate Odyssey more now that Mirage multi-assassinations doesn't had unique animations.
