Chess is a niche but the fact she even found 2 people in a random ikea shows that it’s getting bigger
@misterexclusive8282
@misterexclusive8282 6 ай бұрын
@@MetaKnight89-zg4tgchess is widely known about, but neither knew how to play. One hardly knew how the pieces moved, the other couldn't tell a good move from a bad one and didn't know he'd mated his opponent. Chess is getting bigger indeed, thanks to things like the Queens Gambit, and Carlsen being a pretty big internet personality, but it is still niche by far.

I love the fact that Anna - who is Swedish, can go up to random people in IKEA which is a Swedish store… in Sweden… and speak to everyone in English and no one thinks this is even remotely odd… But this was tremendous fun. Great content as always!
@jqxok
@jqxok 6 ай бұрын
I thought it was a bit odd, but it's certainly not unusual in some industries to come across workers who do not speak Swedish. The most common is probably restaurant staff. What I thought was even more odd was that Tobias did not speak English. That is practically unheard of among Swedes his age.

@@ivan_pozdeev_u He didn't know yet he was filmed though, I presume. But it is very rare to find a young person who doesn't speak any English. Well despite the part of service people not always speaking Swedish, Anna rather looks Spanish to me (I’m Swedish, and have been to Spain a lot) The guy “not speaking English” is weirder, although he DOES actually understand and respond in English, but he’s apparently not comfortable using it. English has been mandatory since the 50’s

strangely enough , completely new players always seem to have some creative/surprising idea's when playing chess. Especially Emil (or Emiel, as it's sometimes spelled in the NL) found some moves that were quite good, often setting up something he wanted to do one move later- seems simple enough but he did it with moves that i hadn't spotted yet, even with so much more time invested in the game than him. Granted i'm not the best player myself, but i have some serious hours under my belt at this point. Always nice to learn something in an unexpected place.
