2004 Garfield was released on PC here in Czech Republic, dubbed with all local Garfield voice actors, especially Vladimír Čech for Garfield... which was a saving grace for this game, for local critics and people, including me :3 I still got the CD! Also... the PC version has A LOT of unused sound clips and data based on RenderWare... it could've been much more than a vaccuuming collectathon. And with much more plentiful and more brutal one-liners. Still, I don't regret my kiddom being spent on this game. It was the only game that didn't require me to insert the CD... I was forbidden to search in my dad's forbidden CD collection when I was 6 :P Neat job reviewing it all. Thank you, Austin, for feeding us, past Garfield fans, with your opinion :3

I used to have a copy of the Garfield cleaning game that wouldn't load properly so I couldn't get into the first door, and to my little child mind, used to a very limited games library and replaying every game a bunch of times, this Garfield ass game was a great shame. So after years of waking in the night screaming, I can't for the life of me say why but the lord granted me this one thing and my copy of Garfield was magically repaired. I can't begin to describe the visceral pleasure of getting a key and unlocking a new room after spending years running around that kitchen to the theme song of purgatory, hiding from that soulless 4th-dimensional dog being, knowing that I could spend infinity sucking up items and opening drawers and finding puzzle pieces, but my unavoidable fate of that loading screen would still be waiting. Anyway that game is shit but I have some deep long hidden emotion to process.

I love how poetic & darkly-comical you put the last half.Talking about, "The visceral pleasure of getting a key and unlocking a new room after spending years running around that kitchen to the theme song of Purgatory" &,really,all the other words /after that/,thru,"still be waiting". That whole section was quite funny. Also,when you said that the game caused U to wake "in the night screaming",for years. Picturing that,made it funny. Considering,that it's over a damaged-portion of the disc & the result,that caused that... xD Truly funny,yet poetic. Like I 1st said. Glad U posted this,VERY worthwhile 2 read! :D -Peace :)

When I was a kid growing up in the early-mid 2000s, I had a GBA SP. I had Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Super Mario World, and Castlevania: COTM, but no other big-name games, really. My decent-sized collection of licensed shovelware included Garfield and His 9 Lives (and Cartoon Network Racing, funny enough) and...yeah. As a kid, anyway, it was pretty solid. Looking back, it’s more of a crapshoot-some levels are really bland compared to others, but the one thing worth mentioning is the music. For whatever reason, the Up A Tree stage song is almost too good for the game it’s used in, and for years was the only thing I remembered from the game until I finally got nostalgic enough to do some digging. It’s a relief to see how lucky I was to get one of the only okay installments in this ill-fated franchise.

2 start this comment,I have 2 say that I ended-up finding myself going on an early-NES-age nostalgia trip. So,warning ahead 4 that... Also,if your name is,or you are friends/similar w/ "Jeff Thiele" from Cape Girardeau,Missouri. There's a personal-msg @the VERY bottom.Please read.Would mean a lot 2 me... Now then,2 directly reply 2 U, "HallowedJes"(apologies,srry,I have no other way 2 contact this old friend of mine,anymore)... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I remember hearing/reading about the game too! It was mentioned in some Nintendo Power issue(s),that I have in storage somewhere. I /think/ this was around the same time of the "Boogerman" review(s) & maybe even some of the Nicktoon games??? It's kinda hard 2 recall this particular game,but a name like that is pretty-much impossible 2 forget... ;) Also,I have EXCELLENT long-term memory skills & recall /most/ of my gaming-related life(unless,it's in the last few yrs. as my shorter-term is not very good,really)... Anyway,I read the mags almost /constantly/(I was always looking forward to what was coming-out & into what I should rent next,which I did a LOT of). Also,I was always a "Hard-Core Gamer",until,the PS4-era(I'm 1 of those /still/ saving-up for a PS4). Which,is bcuz I've been on a nostalgia-trip the last few years & have been more concerned w/ finally owning all the stuff I either wanted/rented. Or,had stolen from me,when younger(rare NES games,that is)... If it weren't for my initially trying to get CIB whenever-possible,I might've not gone into debt so bad. But,I was trying to re-capture that magical-feeling of actually OWNING the game,the /right/ way... That is,in the NES-era,the only reasons U didn't have the instructions & box. Was,U either didn't take care of your stuff. Or,U either stole it from somebody or a store. Or,if it was instructions,it was a rental & someone had lost/kept them(jerks)... I remember,how at the very 1st place I /ever/ rented from,they even got into the habit of charging ppl just 2 rent the instructions! It was like $4 or $5,to do so & this was about 1990,or 1991... I'll likely never forget this. Because,I remember how bad I tried to convince my mother(who,was w/ me,at the time),to agree to it(she didn't). As,I always thought I needed them,to keep from getting-stuck in the game(ESPECIALLY,w/ NES games). Which,is because it /had/ happened,several times before w/ rental games & it kept me from figuring-out what to do(I'll never forget 2 games in particular,that I got confused by). Because,there were no instructions the 1st time I rented them. But,when going to rent a 2nd time,someone had /finally/ returned them. Or,the location just replaced them... The 1st,was that infamous NES "Ghost Busters" game,every1 familiar w/ bad licensed games,will probably at least have heard of... The 1st time I played it,I was absolutely CLUELESS what I was supposed to do. Just like most gamers,who go into it blind(there's an excellent AVGN vid,that backs my statement up)... Somehow,I managed to stumble into the driving-sequence after awhile & even remember thinking it was kind-of enjoyable. But,mainly,I liked the "look" of the main game-screen(I thought it was some kind-of imitation Pac-Man game that was just hard 2 play). As,I was only about 5 or 6(it was among the very 1st NES games I ever played)& it was more about being amazing by all the graphics,I think. That,& at the time,I thought if I tried hard enough,I could figure-out ANY game. I remember thinking,that if I can figure-out how to land on the aircraft-carrier,in "Top Gun". Then,I should be able 2 figure-out what to do here(I was REALLY good at /certain/ games,for a 5-6 yr. old). Because,I was gamer as soon as it would have been possible to play them. As,there was a "Coleco-Vision" w/ 3 games,already in the house,before my birth(my dad bought it,but not sure why. Since,the only game he says he ever remembered liking was "Astro-Smash")... Anyway,just 2 complete the story of my /actual/ 1st console(which it really might as well count as mine. As,my Dad never played it,that I ever saw). I "inherited",if U prefer,"Donkey Kong","Frogger",& "Sub-Roc". But,never had any other games 2 play on it,EVER Back to that Ghost Busters game,tho... Eventually,I figured-out how to reach the "street-level" screens. But,don't remember much about it. So,I probably didn't see it very-much... Now,for the last part of my story,the 2nd game I referred to earlier,that I was /totally/ confused by. Due,to the lack of instructions,was "Beetlejuice"... With it being 1 of my FAV movies of my childhood,I was REALLY looking forward to this game. However,w/o the instructions,I was completely at a loss as to what to do,the 1st time I rented it. I ended-up barely playing it. Since,I couldn't even figure-out how to get past the 1st "house" area of the game(again,EXCELLENT AVGN vid will help U understand,if not familiar). Still,I thought if I only knew what to do,I could enjoy it. So,sometime later(a few weeks later,I think),I thought about /maybe/ renting it. IF,the instructions might actually be avail. this time... That is,I remember the ppl at the store I rented it from("Schnucks",if any1 from the center of the country,ever reads this),said that sometimes ppl return the instructions after awhile. So,I always had my hopes up it might get returned... Anyways,the 2nd time was better. As,I now understood what I was supposed to do. At least,more so than before. However,it was still confusing & I don't think I got very far. As,I don't recall much about the game(likely,I still couldn't tell what I was supposed to be doing to progress & may have given-up,finally). Regardless,I remember not really caring. As,I had a few more games by that time. In particular,I had a VERY good friend that lent me his NES games,quite easily. And,the 2nd time I failed 2 understand Beetlejuice,I'm pretty-sure I distracted myself w/ the games I had borrowed from my friend... Which,apologies,but I'm not sure if I ever properly Thanked him for this & more,so I MUST mention something at the end... Also,this is enough 2 talk about RE: all of... whatever I f-ing did here... xD Ummm... Hopefully,someone from the NES-era enjoys reminiscing about those days 2... But,yeah,I went on a LONG nostalgia-trip. Srry... Srry I went off on a tangent,it ultimately /sort-of/ makes sense... I think?? Anyway,it's late & I've been up a LONG time. So,I tend 2 get like this,once going-down "Early-gaming-memories Lane"... :D In my defense,I deleted a BUNCH more paragraphs that /really/ went 2 far out-of-range... So,there's /that/... :) -Peace! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now,for my personal message,long over-due to the BEST friend I knew growing-up in Cape. And,really,the 1 that had my back more than ANYONE did anywhere (no offense to the others,just true)... I'll never forget what happened last time we saw each-other & the way u defended me. Wish I could return home more often. But,it's difficult to get back,these days. Also,U weren't home last-time I was in town. So,srry I missed U dude. I remember this one Garfield game on Sega Genesis in which you started inside a television. I remember that game because that was my first experience with a rage quit. It was so hard it made me think about punching my Tv for the first time ever...

Hey i actually played Week of Garfield A TON as a kid, it was on this portable DVD player for car rides, it came with some NES games u could play with the controller. This was a very popular thing to have for a bit, so what I'm trying to say is that I am sure there's plenty of kids in the west that played this, despite not ever releasing officially here, and that's insane

I looked up Garfield on the App Store, and the first one I found was a runner (seems like the antithesis of Garfield). It also had an advertisement blurb that read “Explore stunning Mine Hole”. So,

I got one of those Walmart CD game thingies as a child. All I remember is one minigame, where Garfield collected chocolate eggs from a hen in a factory. Or so. It was one of the strangest games I ever played. And the hardest. i never managed to learn the controls.

I grew up watching the original airing of Garfield and Friends and the Garfield TV specials so I'm a long time fan of the series. Although I never played any of the video games.

You should talk about the garfield scary scavenger hunt flash games. One of them has Lyman chained up in the basement of the haunted house. Very cursed.

I believe that Garfield: Mad About Cats is the one and only Garfield "game" (I know this one is more edutainment than a game per se) to feature Lorenzo Music as the voice of Garfield. Lorenzo Music voice samples were the biggest thing Garfield: Caught in the Act was missing, which was odd considering so many of the levels were inspired by various Lorenzo Music-era Garfield prime time TV specials.

Wait, THAT is Garfield's original voice?!? WHAT THE HELL. I grew up with the Latin dub for Garfield and friends and he has a smooth voice that makes him a lot more likeable haha. PD: That frame of Garfield caught in act also scared the shit out of me when I was 6. I cried because I was trapped in the TV with that robot thing. It gave eternal anxiety for any game where you're trapped with some kind of predator :D

I think the old TV specials and the old TV show, "Garfield and Friends," had A LOT to do with the enduring popularity of the character. The specials and series were both solid and entertaining, all the characters were perfectly cast, the stories and humor were well-done, and their production values were enough to stand the test of time. So that's my take. Garfield is skating by on the success of his old TV adaptations that helped solidify him.

It's easy to take endless potshots at a franchise when you ignore most of said franchise. Thank you for bringing those up.
@ElvenRaptor4 жыл бұрын
@@robertanderson9447 Yep! A lot of people today either don't remember or weren't there experience it, but Garfield had a strong first 20 years of existence, give or take. And going back to the perfect casting thing, the late great Lorenzo Music, was just such a perfect voice for Garfield. His performance did so much to make that fat orange cat an enduring character in his animated appearances. I'm convinced that losing Lorenzo Music was a big part of what caused Garfield to fall out of favor in pop culture. They've just never found a voice actor who fit the role even half as well after that. Heh. Don't ever let anyone tell you voice actors are all interchangeable, eh?

9:38 - I had 2 copies of this game for PC as a child. I am sure I still have one of them somewhere. I played it a lot cause it was my only Garfield game. It wasn't beatable tho. Every time it crushed at the attic minigame. Every. Frickin'. Time. So I bought another copy thinking mine was broken. But no - it also crushed. Recently downloaded a version from abandonware thinking I will finially be able to finish the game. Guess what? It crashed at the attic minigame. Idk if this is only a problem with a PC version, but it was really frustrating.
