Hey y'all. Hope you guys enjoy this one. When I first began writing it, I had my Star Fox video in mind and thought... hey I can probably make a one hour video out of Pikmin! Oh how wrong I was. I love Pikmin so much that I actually had to restrain myself from finding more things to talk about... like how levels repopulate with enemies after a certain amount of days, or the mysteries of Louie's character, or the secret data files in Pikmin 3! And those are just off the top of my head... so if there's anything I missed, let's talk about it :D. I can't believe Pikmin 4 is finally here and my plan is to play through it at my own pace and make a follow up video when I'm ready. Hope to be back again sooner than later!

I've just started Pikmin 1 first time blind never touched Pikmin heard of it looked weird didn't get it, watched Arlo's stuff and heard him constantly praising Pikmin, still wasn't interested as only Pikmin 3 was on switch and i like to start from the beginning, but now with all Pikmin games on switch i finally started this series 22 years late but my goodness I have enjoyed Pikmin 1 alot more then i had thought

No it isn't, it's about the same. The cadence and tone of his voice and overly emotional views are annoying. This is why adults back in the early 2000 blamed video games for violence. I genuinely think Shigeru's favourite series is Pikmin. Just the way he talks about it shows how much he loves the series, and despite it lagging behind the other nintendo titans, a pikmin game always seems to make its way into whatever new console Nintendo releases.

A lot of the things you've said about Pikmin 2 have been things I have been wracking my brain trying to find words for almost all of my life, and yet so much of your dialogue contributes even more as to why it's my favorite game ever. It's so amazing that there could be such a strong difference between the two games, and I really feel like there is a Pikmin experience out there for everyone. All three mainline games are 10 out of 10's in my eyes though so for some people, EVERY game is for everyone lol.

Very good video! Pikmin is my absolute favourite series from Nintendo, even as a kid it always felt different than Nintendos other outings. More somber and real than it’s contemporaries. The point being is that they don't make new IPs for the sake of making them. They build games around the act of simply asking very basic game design questions and following a train of logic in the direction of a general end goal. They still treat the craft as a craft and not a means to an end for business. Still, even they miss sometimes. ARMS didn't land as hard as Splatoon did before it. Pikmin didn't end up the killer app of the GameCube, Melee and Metroid Prime did. We suffer these occasional misfires because we know they absolutely hear feedback and take it seriously in making the next entry. It's how we got BotW, it's why Pikmin managed to get 4 genuinely different and valid games that stand up well individually to this day. I respect it.

This is a great video. This isn’t talked about enough. Nintendo is so innovative and they’re sooo loyal to their creations and I think that’s soooooooo honorable. Mario literally started as Jumper man and now he is MARIO and he had one of the best box office movies of this year. Nintendo is really on a different level. Sure they may not always have the strongest systems but they’re never too far behind and they make up for it in different ways.

I will always defend Pikmin 2's caves for highlighting just how versatile the core gameplay mechanics of Pikmin really are. They shift the player's approach from meticulously multitasking and spreading your troops thin for maximum efficiency, to huddling closely together and creeping around with an increased sense of caution, activating and suppressing traps one by one as if you were defusing a bomb, and strategically taking down groups of enemies that are clumped together in such a way that would spell disaster if you were to just recklessly charge in. And the fact that the layouts are procedurally generated means you can never truly learn or memorize your way through. Even if you reset a sublevel in hopes of undoing a loss, you'll be greeted with an entirely new rearrangement of elements, all waiting to ambush you anew. To me, it's exciting in a completely different way than how Pikmin 1 captures you, but it still makes just as effective use out of Olimar and the Pikmin's abilities, the challenge in both cases being to juggle a gigantic horde of powerful yet fragile creatures in order to collect the items required to finish the game. But just as the biggest threat in Pikmin 1 is time, it feels like in Pikmin 2 the opposite is true, that being the space itself surrounding you. I can completely understand how some felt it cheapened the brand of gameplay that Pikmin 1 introduced, but to me, it was a showcase of how flexible the formula can be... case in point, the way both Pikmin 3 and Pikmin 4 situate themselves on various points along this vague spectrum of "1 style" vs. "2 style" without ever drastically veering from either of those games, yet still manage to deliver fresh and unique experiences in their own ways. Who knows what direction a hypothetical Pikmin 5 would take the series in now.

wow this is such an amazing video, makes me appreciate how the pikmin series persevered against unfortune circumstances and how hard they work to make this franchise and the passion that goes into each installment. I personally love how they are willing to experiment with all the pikmin games it gives each installment a unique feel to it. Also makes me happy to see pikmin 4 being the best selling pikmin game with over 3 million sold like metroid dread.

Definitely peaked my interest in Hey Pikmin, since Federation Force is another one of those games, and having played it, I can tell you it's a pretty solid co-op shooter (it really did just suffer from very, very poor timing). I do also love me a good puzzle platformer. Also some great insight into the series as a whole, making me realize just why 2 is my favorite, while also making me appreciate the other entries more.

As a diehard Metroid fan I'malso interested in Federation Force as it's the only game I never played (that and Pinball). But the thing is, it really, REALLY looks like you need other live people in co-op to actually get the intended experience. If I play it solo, I'm 99% certain I'll be underwhelmed. I think that was the second death knell no one talks about

@@RyouShi98 Oh definitely. I say it's a solid co-op shooter, with an emphasis on the co-op part. I played through it with my nephew. There is a piece of equipment to help out people playing solo, but, yeah, solo's probably not a worthwhile experience unless you're really, REALLY curious. Also, Pinball's also pretty dope. Like, it is just pinball, but it's a pretty rad pinball game.

i'm so glad pikmin 4 has brought so many more people into the series now, myself included. i've been a fan of pikmin since i watched chuggaaconroy's playthrough of 2 way back when, but i never had an opportunity to have any of these games for myself until recently. the world of pikmin has occupied a specific nostalgic space in my mind for years, and the release/popularity of 4 has finally given me reason to actually enter that world for myself. it's a unique feeling, and i owe that feeling to the endurance of the series.

It's kind of funny (in an unfortunate way) how he praised Pikmin 3 for so many reasons and then Pikmin 4 removed most of those reasons for the sake of basically just making an easy, handholdy version Pikmin 2 where they purposefully limit the number of pikmin you can use strictly so you have to use the dog. I see how Pikmin 2 fans are happy, but for Pikmin 3 fans it really feels like a step back for the series outside of the improved graphics and added inventory mechanic.

I think there's a lot for Pikmin 3 fans to enjoy in Pikmin 4, but it's obviously more inspired by and for the Pikmin 2 fans. It's really not a step back. If anything, its a lateral step just as Pikmin 2 was to Pikmin 1, but nonetheless is likely a problem they tried to address with the dandori challenges and Olimar Shipwreck Tale, and will have to continue dealing with moving forward.

You know despite the caves being bad by your description I love them as I see that they've actually went the full way on randomising how the layout is because they also randomised the music which I think is pretty cool edit honestly didn't expect him to put down hey pikmin in here as my first pikmin game I loved it especially the collecting shiny objects part I love shiny things Each of the twenty pikmin you met in each level had their own personalities and jokes that would accompany their character throughout that level If there are any cutscenes in that level (normaly there are)

Pikmin is one of my favorite game series ever. I love the gameplay and the feeling of the world you’re in running around in it feels cozy but mysterious and the music is great also. Good memories playing pikmin 2 on my GameCube when I was younger even though I kind of sucked at it back then and didn’t get it like I do now but I’ve just appreciated it more over the years

This was fantastic to listen to at work! Really brightened my day :) Personally, I don't enjoy the Pikmin series because they stress me out too bad between the time limit and the Pikmin dying, but I wish I did because their atmosphere is incredible. (And sadly Pikmin Bloom doesn't work on my phone rip) I loved hearing how someone who does enjoy the gameplay tell me what they see in it, that was so cool, like someone picking out all the best bits for me ^^ Also I think maybe I should give Hey Pikmin a go, a puzzle platformer sounds a lot more my speed! Thank you so much for all of your efforts, you made my day and got me to appreciate a series in a new light :)

Why would anyone think that a video game from a poorly-selling franchise being made for what is essentially a dead console is a "cash grab"?
