The native language thing first happened in Tag 2. Until Tekken 6 the characters would speak in Japanese, Korean, Chinese or English. In tag 2 many characters went from speaking English to their mother tongues (Lily and Sebastian speak french, Christie and Eddy speak Portuguese, Miguel speaks Spanish, Leo speaks German etc). Tekken 7 introduced even more languages such as Italian and Arabic
@sonicanvaspost68672 жыл бұрын
Correction: the native language thing has been initiated as prototype in Tekken 4, with Hwoarang meant to speak Korean for international release(but the lips were off-synced) It was then made into realization as they made Tekken 5. So you could say it was a gradual step for each characters

Fun fact about Hwoarang in T4: he actually speaks three languages throughout various versions of the game. Korean, Japanese and English. Good to know that you enjoyed Tekken 7's story mode so much, even tho I had a miserable time and felt that the lore was subpar at best. Excellent video! One technical detail (only if I remember correctly) you flirted with but wound up not mentioning is that from T6 onward the preferred side option was neat because the game could render an online match from two perspectives in 3D if both players indicated they preferred the same side. Again if I'm remembering right, this was considered a modest achievement for fighting games at the time.
@Niosai2 жыл бұрын
I actually had no idea this was a thing. I just assumed it was a dice roll and you got relegated to one side! But now that you mention it, League of Legends: Wild Rift does something similar. No matter what, you always have your spawn on the left. That means the game is flipping the perspective of both teams to make it seem like the opponent is spawning from the right! Super interesting stuff!

just a fun fact, yoshimitsu originated in tekken, and then they made another character, seperate person, but with the same look and same name, to appear in soul caliber. So it's more of a Tekken easter egg in soul caliber that became a full character rather than an official cross-over.
@Tanekoshima2 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the incoming wall of text. I'm glad to see someone who's not a hardcore fan of Tekken making videos on the series. I think I fall in the average Tekken player section, in which I'm a big fan of the game, I can handle myself in casual fights, but I'm leagues below the people who are good enough to play competitively, so it's incredibly refreshing to see a casual player playing them and talking about them in such detail. I also LOVED Tekken Revolution, but not for the reasons you'd expect. It's basically Tekken Tag 2, without the tag feature, a miniscule roster of characters you start with, but you could unlock more as you played. I have a special relationship with Tekken because, being from Brazil, the majority of fighting game fans played games that were easily accessible via homebrew (AKA pirated) arcade machines or were made famous through old consoles such as the SNES or Genesis. Series such as King of Fighters, Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat are vastly more popular down here for that reason, and I was never good at those, so I never really got into fighting games, until Tekken 3 dropped into my life. I was immediately in love. The characters, the gameplay, everything. Because of that I had a hard time relating to pretty much all of my friends in this aspect, who, hardcore gamers as they were, only casually played fighting games, and when they did it was the aforementioned ones. They knew about Tekken but I would always beat them because I was the one who played the most, so I never had friends to constantly play with, and I REALLY enjoyed playing it. Fast forward to 2007, Tekken 6 drops, I'm hyped as usual, but since it'd come out on the PS3, I knew there'd be online features, and was even more hyped. Finally I'd be able to play online with actual people without pestering my friends. I don't know if I was just lucky, but I rarely got a truly laggy fight, even on 1 bar connections, could always manage my way around it, so I had an absolute blast. Tag 2 dropped, same thing, albeit a bit less hyped, online play was pretty bad. But then Revolution dropped. It was free. The influx of brazilian players was massive. Video games have always been very expensive in Brazil, and having a free entry to the franchise brought about a lot of newcomers to the series. Naturally people who didn't like Tekken eventually stopped playing, but I met TONS of cool people through it and we'd play pretty much everyday until the servers went down. The crappy part was indeed the whole microtransaction nature of the game. You could potentially only play 5 times on a given interval, from "Battle coins" that regenerated every 30 minutes and capped off at 5. There were "Premium tickets" that allowed infinite play if you were good, because they regenerated on a win, but you'd have to unlock them by playing and getting lucky (or buying them of course). But it was still fun, we'd host lobbies and whenever one of us ran out of coins, we'd just let the next player have a go, a nice small friend group who loved Tekken we'd created for ourselves. Now with Tekken 7 on PC, a small community of PC players in Brazil formed but I'm leagues below their level, they're all much more avid fans than I am, so I ended up feeling less and less motivated to keep playing because, while it was fun, I really just enjoyed meeting people at my level and fighting them, which is what I did most in Tekken 6 and Revolution. I'll bet more people play on PS4's, but since I don't own one I had to play it on PC. Now I'm just sitting here, waiting for Tekken 8 to be bigger than 7, hoping it'll foster a larger and healthier community down here (and hopefully with better netcode so I don't have to play brazilians only). All in all, sorry for the text nuke, great video, subscribed!

I think Rage Arts/Drive was such a great addition to the game, and impressed they risked backlash. Bc it gave some kind of accessibility option but also didn't make it too abusable. But a lot of veterans hated it bc they felt like it kills the momentum; which I personally think is my favorite part of it. So many mid tier players just learn one or 2 long combos that are hard to block and spam them (I'm looking at you King mains). For new players this gives an option to get in a win every so often if you're new but for more experienced fighters you use it as a way to punish those combo spammers. And if you're decent you can actually use it to your advantage against in the reverse way. I usually bait it out to get a free combo punisher on other people. Part of why I prefer Tekken to most 2D fighting games is that in many of those (especially team ones) if you make one mistake you can end up in just endless combos. And your only real response in mid-high level play is to memorize all those for tiny attack windows and to spend hours learning long combos yourself. While Tekken feels more varied in how you respond with the extra dimension, and non combos have more use; and this addition just makes that more of an option forcing players to be more careful than going full throttle the whole time.

I have probably put the most hours into Tekken 7 and TTT2. The only thing I want in Tekken 7 is team battle mode. As someone who plays Tekken a lot locally with friends, that's the biggest glaring omission from 7. We definitely have more fun playing TTT2 or any of the older ones for this reason.

Dude I appreciate you with all the TEKKEN feedback. You grew up playing soul calibur which I understand. My step brother have it on GameCube but I grew up playing TEKKEN. I'm going to give some others titles a try like you gave Tekken

This was a great video, I played Tekken 1,2,3,Tag 1,5,6,Tag 2, & 7. I wasn't competitive at first when I was a kid playing Tekken games before Tekken 7 came out. My favorite character is Law but I have other characters I play as. Tag 2 was when I started doing combos while juggling the opponents. Tekken 7 came out in 2017 and I didn't get it until the summer of 2021 and started playing more competitively starting with Law and then other characters like Devil Jin, Josie, Lili, maybe Lucky Chloe, and other characters I will eventually get around. Once again great video and you got a new subscriber. (Edited: You forgot to mention the Rage Drive. Certain characters have two Rage Drives. Certain characters can utilize they're rage drives to perform combos afterwards)

Started with tag 2 and then started playing tekken 7. 7 is pretty good. Glad I played it when they started to make the story make sense

Great Videos. Tekken is one of my favorite series. You did forget to mention "Street Fighter vs Tekken" That was a great game.

I mentioned it briefly toward the end. It'll definitely be in a Street Fighter video down the line :)

I think the only thing I really don’t like is Hehachi’s motivations being retconned. He threw Kaz to test if he was worthy of being a Mishima but now he’s a tragic villain, but it doesn’t match up with how he usually acts

I think Tekken 5 was the first to have the cross language dialog. In Tekken 4, Jin speaks Japanese all the time except for Hwoarang's ending when he speaks English with an accent which makes sense. I've played Tekken since Tekken 3 (my first PS game not long after it released), then got Tekken 2.

25:05 I used to say that ever since they integrated the online mode into Tekken. I preferred offline content, plus my internet connection wasn't very good and it wasn't very enjoyable. I jumped into playing Tekken online when Tekken Revolution came out, and despite the fact that my internet quality was not very good, I wanted to measure how good I could be with the character I liked. I lost many times, but little by little I found the pleasure of playing online, especially in Tekken 7. Tekken 7 is perhaps one of the best and most balanced versions of the saga and although in terms of content it is not that great, the story is one of the most epic I've played in a fighting game and the online challenge is one of the most decent I've been able to play to date. If I look back and evaluate my playstyle, I have grown a lot as a player. I still have a lot to learn and that's what makes Tekken interesting, it's a game that has an overwhelming density at times, but rewards you when you achieve a challenge.

So good! Excited for this after the first part Please check out the games made for the BLEACH ip! Could be a potential video. Ive always been curious because they arent all localized

I'll definitely look into that. Bleach is one of those series that scares me because there's so much jargon but I will definitely give it a try one day!
