@nakiado Жыл бұрын
Yeah it's really strange when a larger company (Phoenix Labs has 4 offices) tries to do what an indie developer pretty much already did at a significantly lesser price tag. Stardew Valley was really something special, this one really isn't... In a year some other farming sim will gather hype and Fae Farm will be culturally insignificant. We already got Rune Factory on the DS almost 2 decades ago which offered an rpg fantasy farming sim experience by the creators of Story of Seasons (fka Harvest Moon) and is fantastic! A remaster of the 3rd just came out this month but because the developers didn't spend all their budget advertising it didn't get hype, instead that money was clearly spent making the game as fantastic as it is on release unlike this game which we're waiting for patches to repair...

i got fae farm on switch for my birthday. its entertaining but the game have no soul. the studio didn't understand that people might come for farm sims but stay for the villagers. the magic of stardew resides in its sense of community. Villagers might be npcs but they have a home, a personality, hobbies, schedules, likes and dislikes, hopes, dreams, and even a past. They feel real, and its fun and sometimes funny to learn to know them. Bring them stuff and later understand why they asked you that specific items. In fae farm the npcs are just npcs...

I guess at the ridiculous price they are selling the game for, they could not afford to get some real voice acting done? Saving on localization? The voices are horrid. And, even post patch #1, the game is still full of bugs and stuff that doesn't work right. I guess apart from the voice acting, they could also not afford playtesters. {le sigh} I played through it, watched the titles roll, and kept going. But, really, it's not worth the price. It’s surprisingly common when a indie game raises the bar so high. Many others will try to reach the same heights and the moment we see larger studios try and recreate lightning in a bottle is typically when the genre is oversaturated. I think a really great example is what FNAF did for the indie horror scene. It inadvertently created a new sub genre (Mascot horror) and most of what you see now in that genre is egregious cash grabs with no soul whatsoever. Stardew Valley was a passion project. This game looks perfectly fine but you can see it was made purely to make money. I think it’s particularly bad for the cozy/farming sim genre as it introduced a whole new demographic of gamers, and company’s want to capitalise on that.

I’m fine with only playing one farming game despite being in the middle of an ocean of cozy games. Reminder for non-influencers who don’t have unlimited money, the idea of farming games is to promote simple, slow, anti-materialistic lifestyle. Always having to try out new farming games as soon as they come out just because your favorite content creator seem to be enjoying them is not sustainable and defeats the whole point of farming games, especially if one of them costs $40. Also, Fae Farm uses Raleway font. I don’t like how the “W” looks like.

I've been playing this game for a while, and I will say, it's fantastic for multiplayer. There are enough different things to do that each player can specialize a bit, (I tend the farm and gather resources, someone else does mining and exploration, someone else figures out cooking, etc) and really feel like a team effort. I enjoy the gameplay, and it's a nice game to just hang out and farm with friends. There's still plenty of bugs and glitches though, and I hope they get fixed ASAP. For example, someone tried to put a decorative shelf on the wall and it glitched, and we can't fix it. Meanwhile there's an entire NPC shopkeeper in the elf village that I can't see, but my friends can, and sometimes items just disappear from the inventory, etc. Not game-breaking, but frustrating for sure. I still will keep playing it, and it's still fun, especially if you're playing with friends.

The farming game that I've been playing recently is Immortal Life, a farming game that takes place in a xianxia world, aka Chinese fantasy. It's translated and still in Early Access, but only like $15 and has a lot of content.

Thanks for making this video. I was wondering why I was hearing everyone say this game sucked, based on a lot of the chatter I heard I assumed it was too buggy to play or around ten hours. And I get that Stardew set a new standard (believe me I love that game too) but I also don’t think we can really expect most games to cost $15 (if it’s made by one person it only has to pay one person). And I have my own gripes with Stardew that this game actually does solve- like how fast travel is actually reasonable here (obelisks are too late game to be useful and it’s annoying to carry warp totems everywhere in Stardew)- and it seems to make more use of the magical elements as well. Also bug catching is awesome and I was surprised Stardew didn’t have it. I do agree that $60 is a lot for a farming sim though, and they shouldn’t be charging for content that’s not out. Especially since on Switch you can’t buy the normal version. Still, I might pick it up if it goes on sale.

Devs are so hooked on copying the stardew valley formula bc its successful. They dont realize that stardew valley is more than its formula. Its so much heart from its muses (harvest moon, rune factory) and added soooo much depth. Goes to show that game success lies in the developer's heart.

I'm not in the farming games scene, just stumbled on this vid by accident. To be honest: this does not appeal to me at all, but at the same time: it's gorgeous, decently made, and kid me would've LOVED this. The world looks enchanting, the characters are cute and diverse and I could've imagined their personalities more in-depth, the gameplay loop seems simple but decently executed, the art style is lovely and simple, and there's customization. I would've spent so many months playing pretend in that little world. I remember when I was a kid, there were a few really well made games that were mainly targetted at kids but still retain dignity today (think Nintendo or Sony titles), some "decent" kids games that today only have nostalgia value, and a LOT of shovelware for kids. I am able to play Animal Crossing for the Gamecube and still have fun today; I'm not really able to feel the same magic in "Horsez" for the Nintendo DS. As a kid, I absolutely had a blast with both, and I would've LOVED to have a 2nd-tier game with such a pretty graphic and cozy vibe.

Honestly, the only downside of the Nintendo Switch is the lack of free games, despite the fact that they already rake in great profits just from their device sales and Nintendo exclusive titles like Zelda, Mario, Pokemon and such. It is a great handheld and even better on TV mode, but imagine spending CAD $450 plus tax and then still having to pay at least 180-200 extra bucks to get merely 2-3 truly great gaming experiences (stuff that one would want from the Switch, such as a classic Zelda or Mario title)... unlike the Steam setups, where there are so many more amazing free titles. Nintendo should really consider bringing more free to play titles (not just shooter or battle royale stuff) to the Switch, instead of constantly making their purchasable games more expensive than they already are.

its just that Palia is free and does all those things better including very dynamic dialogue and relationships, plus if you dont have a PC then Fae Farm only has a $60 option on the Switch. It's very much relying on its fairy aesthetic.
@Solip_i Жыл бұрын
In my country we can get faefarm on the switch for like 40€ so, not that expensive. And personally, I’m not interested in Palia cuz there’s no magic and not fairies in it. Games are not for everyone.
@macymiller3417 Жыл бұрын
The games are different though. Palia is open world from my understanding. A lot of people has said theres not that much to do yet. It’ll be fun but they will slam you with micro transactions later on, I guarantee it. Free games always do. With Fae farm you pay one cost and no extra unless theres a dlc which is worth it imo. Rather pay 1 fee for content then a million fees. $40 fae farm on pc $60 on switch includes two dlc that will be out in future.

Find this to be the most straightforward, funny review I've seen of FaeFarm so far. Still gets the same points across from other videos that take forever/drag out info. Relationship quests/wants are random and unclear. Dialogue is boring. No need to switch tools. Look at all you can do. Storyline. Things unlock over time.
@macymiller3417 Жыл бұрын
The quests to me aren’t that unclear. Too many people are speed clicking through the tutorial dialogue and then complaining they are confused. It explains nearly everything if people read. Also google does help too if stuck.

That’s crazy to hear this game is $60 on switch, when you could pay $10 more and get Starfield; which has so much more time, energy, and money put into it. I know they’re not comparable games, but the price comparison for what you get is crazy. Also when you finish the storyline of the game, is that just it? Or is it kinda like Animal Crossing, where you can continue to grind and have fun, do things still?

I actually like the character design. I used to play Puzzle Pirates as a kid and there's a lovely familiarity and nostalgic feeling for me in the face models. Not sure what Roblox is tbh, so can't speak to that resemblance at all. Gameplay looks really fun, definitely dopamine rush kinda movement and animations. Once characters get more fleshed out and bugs fixed, might be a good buy. I think Stardew Valley is a game worth at least 40€ in it's current state so I don't think using the 15€ price point on an older game is that fair. I'm hoping CA prices HC much higher than Stardew after maybe a few content updates, if not straight from the launch. He deserves to, SDV is not fairly priced at this point. 😅

Agree. Personally didn’t love acnh but this fae farm game scratches the itch I had. Also, Ik this is unpopular but I kinda love the short days. Sometimes its annoying when you just want to see your inventory and time is going on tho. If its going to be so short we need more pause screens when browsing. For me acnh felt so boring and the days were entirely too long. I didn’t love time traveling either so I just quit playing. 🤣 I feel like a happy medium would be nice.

The Switch version is $60 because it being the Deluxe edition; I know this because of two content packs releasing, one in December 2023 and one in June 2024! > You get two content packs (when they are released) and since the Nintendo Switch doesn't have a way to play music; You won't get the soundtrack, unless you get the Steam version...

From what I can tell as someone who's seen a lot of fishing (but not done a whole lot myself), this seems like one of the best ways to represent it in a game. A lot of it is trying to pull the fish close enough to net it or pull it out without putting too much stress on the line and snapping it from you and the fish pulling in opposite directions at the same time. It's honestly why I don't get why games like this put in fishing mechanics other than because Stardew did it. It's slow paced in real life where the rush comes from actually getting the fish in after spending ages waiting and planning, but these games focus entirely on the most exciting rush of it which feels at odds against the slow mentality of cozy games where you don't miss out if you take it slow. I'm not sure how to solve this other than simplifying it or changing it to a different thing altogether honestly.

I can understand where all these comments are coming from but I really love the game for what it is. Maybe I'm alone in this, but I've seen it described more as a decoration/collection sim and I can do that as much as I want while not having to bother with the npcs too much It is weird to me how synonymous the term farming sim has become with RPG and romanceable characters, but that is just not the focus of Fae Farm and I personally enjoy it this way
@syl_phee Жыл бұрын
@bleh329 Most farming sims nowadays are RPGs but being a farm sim doesn't automatically make a game an RPG, you said it yourself, Harvest Moon is a farm sim - RPG - While other games like Farming Simulator 22 are purely Farming Sims. And that is what I meant, since Harvest Moon was popular, most newer modern farm sims build on its features, which include RPG, that players have come to expect those, from just calling something a farm sim, even though that isn't really accurate :)

when you make a stardew valley-like but fail to recognize that there are at least two or three primary types of farming sim players: people who want the mechanics of farming/mining/fishing to zen out, and people who are looking for a dating sim where the dialog options are "give favorite gift on birthday." And the third type who likes to customize aesthetics, but that's usually split between the primary player types as overlap, since both typically enjoy it (typically for different reasons; a reward for their gameplay vs roleplay). If you leave one half out in the cold, it can be hard for players to justify paying multiple times the price of its competitors. You can definitely lean harder into one than the other, like story of seasons (and later harvest moon entries, in the opposite direction). But you have to mind that people who favor one over the other may completely avoid your game without at least a decent foundation for their fav. At $40, frankly, I expect a pretty decent attempt at both.

I can't be the only one who genuinely likes how the characters look like? That was one of my reasons of getting it, I don't necessarily like super realistic characters and environments.
