I love the original. I've been playing it on the PC since 1992. Completing a playthrough within 60 minutes is one of the most wholesome experiences in the gaming history, which I still love to repeat, having done so once again as recently as earlier this month. I'm still on my first playthrough of the first sequel without using cheats, though. While that game adds enough new things with estethically good choices, it's impossible not to notice how, in comparison to the original, its balance is completely off; for example, instead of a perfect mix of challenges, difficulty, progress, and themes, the sequel makes it feel almost tedious how soon precision and speed are replaced by formulaic "git gud" levels, enemy-spamming, save-scumming, and ultimately anticlimactic storytelling. That said, this comparison between the original and its sequel applies virtually to all its sequels. I hope that this team manages to focus on the ideas behind what made the original so special, including simplicity. In my opinion, what you don't need are anime-like, flashy effects and a cluttered UI. What you need are realistic physics, focus on a new high concept, and seemingly effortless momentum once you've mastered the game. Basically, in my mind, the perfect 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘢 would be a combination of 𝘖𝘯𝘦 𝘛𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘖𝘯𝘦 𝘕𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴, 𝘓𝘪𝘮𝘣𝘰/𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦, a veneer of '30s Hollywood, and a novel, sublime high-concept idea.

I can't believe I am more than seriously considering buying a Ubisoft game. 😳 But everything you described, Pam, sounds great (except the many cut-scenes, yeah). I've been thinking about penalizing death in games. Just go back to check points is ok, not great but not too bad. Souls-style is good in some games, but not in others. How about when you die you have the option to revive (Sekiro style) but you pay the price, like an amulet or power is lost until you reach another check point, or accept death. If you accept death, just go back to check point and no further penality.

I think your feedback about the timelines might be confusing- there are two separate series (ignoring the orginal pre 2000 games). There's the Sand of Time series that feature the SoT trilogy + Forgotten Sands. Then there was another reboot circa 2009 that has nothing to do with the SoT trilogy and the playable character isn't actually a prince. I think the commenter wants to know if the new game links to that reboot or the SoT trilogy. In other words is the prince you save the same prince from SoT trilogy. You might wanna try the SoT series as they aren't like Assassin's Creed, they have a linear progression and mission design. The second one has a bit of metroidvania with you revisiting previous areas. Though you might not like the early 2000's angst. Lastly Assassin's Creed does have 2D sidescrolling spin offs.

I don't like the zooming and "cinematic" breaks in the standard Metroidvania action. When games do these tricks, it pulls me right out of the action and frustrates me. I don't want to do cool moves at all when they force mico-cinematics on me. I do like all the granular difficulty options. All games should have this. And it does look really good.

The Architecture , the music and where the game takes place is definitely Persian but the main character... that's not a Persian. that's definitely an immortal from Detroit :) having a trip to Persia. and the game doesn't have that darkness of the original 2000s trilogy to it and now the mc has chakra blades and magical powers one of the main themes of the pop was that prince was a human whom was fighting against the fate. the only magic was the object he obtained meaning the dagger and thus he was relatable. plus i don't know who came up with that brilliant idea that prince should be kidnapped . literally that splendid glorious Prince who fought his own fate and the wheel of time is now getting kidnapped and is absent in his own game ... :) . I want to find the genius who came up with that Idea.
@basilofgoodwishes4138 Жыл бұрын
1. How does a "Persian"( Persia doesn't exist anymore, only Iran) look? That is just nonsense here. Sargon fits with the middle eastern community with his appearance, and especially the persian community. 2. The dark and edgy early 2000's aesthegics are the reason why PoP declined as it became more and more miserable and was not universally loved by fans. They prefer the Arabic esque style of mystery and wonder, not edgy porn games. 3. The "prince" is a title and not all princes were mere humans. The SoT prince could manipulate time and space as well as perform acrobatics no ordinary human could and later on he gained even crazier powers. Hardly ordinary, so why not a little upgrade. I hate it when near easterners are portrayed as weak and ordinary humans when their European and east Asian neighbors have super powers and are super strong. Intelligence and scheming is not our only forte. We can be strong and magically adapt, even many heroes form Persian literature can have special powers. 4. I mean it's not like that there exists a franchise that is highly popular and successful, more so than PoP where the titular main character is constantly damseled and needs to be rescued by her bodyguard who doesn't even talk, with this game having nearly 40 years of history to be proud off and got this spring their latest game where said titular character has a brown ancestor. It's not like any of this is real, it can't be, it's ridiculous.... 5. The same genius who knows how to make games unlike its ardent critics who really don't appreciate good looking games.

It is not going to reinvigorate the franchise like Sands of Time did but it looks good. I am conceptualizing a crypto adventure game right now so that is taking most of my time and ideas. Imagine a really hard one that you pay 5 dollars to play until you die but if you beat the game you get the jackpot that is half of all the other players. The only problem would be it being used by money launderers to mask transactions and make it look like a bunch of people played it and won. I plan on doing seasons where it can be beaten in an hour. I am working on the tokenomics right now.

How much does this game "showcase" the 3D graphics with intermittent cutscenes interrupting your gameplay? This was the one thing that annoyed me the most about Metroid Dread, and from some footage and trailers, it looks like this game will do it a lot too. I feel like, when a game is AAA, they want to show it off with that kind of stuff. But all it does is detract from the gaming experience. Just because you _can_ wow us with flashy cutscenes that interrupt gameplay, doesn't mean you should.

The Afro-Iranians came along long before the fall of the first persian empire, the Acheamenid empire according to Herodotus. Also if you would really know about Persia, you would have known about the depictings of the immortals and see that they have a dark skin tone and dreadlocks as well, not the same type, but dreadlocks all the same. Also Sargon (the main character) is brown, not black, why do people think he is black?

where is middle eastern representation getting replaced with afro-carribean? I'm interested in the examples.

Yeah, I'm not sure where that's happened either.

I’m concerned this game looks like an $8 mobile game like Grimvalor or Castlevania Grimoire of Souls. It certainly doesn’t look to me like something that commands $50.

What a weird comment.

Very underwhelming, boring design aesthetic, parry system gonna ruin any flowing combat. Best looking 2D game of 2013 maybe.

That's quite the take.

Wish they went with the Two Thrones style of gameplay. That game was amazing.
