I just traveled here from April 3 2016 to play this on game pass. I can’t play other games or time may fracture. But shit what a hell of a game. I could not wait another two days for this to come out but that is bad ass that it made it to game pass in 2023.

I played this first time in 2023 too. I don't recall another game where they make the antagonist make story choices, so you end up identifying with both Jack and Paul. Paul Serene stole the show though. Great casting overall! I also think it's a pity we did not have chance to enjoy our fully built powers for a bit more, as the time powers were fun. A sequel would be a treat.

One of the most underrated Triple-A games in my opinion. Had this already for PC and purchased it again for Series X to see how the One X version looks like and it's incredible how next-gen this game looks in 4K and Auto HDR. It's a shame there will proverbial never be a sequel to this tho...
@FailedQuest Жыл бұрын
I am holding out hope that they will do a sequel of some kind in the future. That would be sick. 👍
@Sos4R4y7 ай бұрын
They may or may not put out a sequel but the companies involved are doing a great job. Just started playing Alan wake 2 and 3 chapters in and I am blown away. Initially I was disappointed by quantum break because developers took the cheap way out (instead of going native 1080p, they did 720p stretched to make it look 1080, however it's the reason there was so much grain upon release). The game itself was amazing. I haven't played it on series x yet. I'm hoping one of the updates fixed the grain. And circling back to the sequel bit, actors are definitely interested in returning for a new game. Plus, control sequel is in talks so we might luck out.
@Passgier572 ай бұрын
I heard remedy bought the control license back, but Quantum Break belongs to Microsoft. They likely do nothing with it.

It funny now because the live action cutscenes are still shot at 1080p 30fps for Alan Wake 2.
@ThePreciseClimber11 ай бұрын
I mean, 30fps makes sense for live-action footage, I think. Not sure about 1080p but one would assume high-quality 4k footage would take up a lot of space. Maybe it would've been too much? The game's already almost 90GB. But they could've had an optional 4k download.
@Code-n-Flame9 ай бұрын
The difference is that AW2 doesn't live transition from FMV to game. QB does and that's why it's so much worse of an experience. There's no black screen in between. The game engine can take seconds to catch back up to whatever FPS you're at from 30. It's extremely jarring and the only way to fix it is by capping the FPS at 30 😩

yes this, they wanted to make a alan wake 2, but were forced to step away from that when xbox was getting tired of waiting and wanted to bulk up their mixed media library. The mixed media elements purely existed because that was a requirement.
@Cakebattered6 ай бұрын
From its inception, Xbox was a Windows PC for the living room, so integration into other living room devices was always the plan. The TV, TV, TV, meme is kinda revisionist history to some degree, because the Xbox One reveal was a completely separate press conference, just days before E3 where the presentation was exclusively game trailers. Microsoft essentially had 2 reveals; one for gamers, and one for the general public. Heck, Xbox's 2013 E3 presentation was so "Gamer Focused" that it popularized the format of Console showcases consisting of nearly all game trailers. Prior to that musical guests and long developer talks were part of E3 presentations. Remember the Sony Flute guy?

Bought it on sale recently and it was worth it. And it seems they fixed the cutscene buffering, never experienced any of it. Also, the story was somewhat complicated, but if you paid attention to notes and extra material, it was reasonably easy to follow. Too bad main character seemed to misunderstand most of what was happening, including the whole purpose of what monarch was trying to do and final result of what would happen if their plan worked out. Also too bad that the Hatch issue was left unresolved. My main issue was checkpoint system. You place checkpoint before the boss fight, after the cutscenes. Not before them, especially if they are unskippable (i mean, you can " skip" them but that only means watching the loading screen for about as long as cutscene takes, which is ridiculous)

Because at the time it was very buggy and way too heavy for PCs to handle. On consoles I assume they capped to 30fps and upscaled because it's a very graphically demanding game. At 30fps and less than 1080p this game looks like absolute crap. (Personal opinion) Higher end 2022/3 GPUs do about 100-160fps on 2k without upscaler. (Depends heavily on area. Some areas are just super unoptimized) I get that much fps or more in 4k or even 8k in games this old, so a lower end GPU like 6500xt or 3050/2070 will probably still struggle even in 2023. At the time (2016) we had 10 series GPUs or older (like 970, 1060 etc.), which barely scraped the 60fps in 1080p medium settings. Unless you had like a 980ti/1080ti, it just wasn't that fun of an experience constantly getting fps dips into the single digits.. The lacking optimizations and random bugs being common was a nightmare - so much stuff is happening on screen. Remedy is well known for complex over the top physics particle simulations. Very hard to sift for bugs when everything looks like a graphical glitch 😂 Also the story had potential but in my personal opinion fell flat. But yeah it did get a lot of unjustified hate. Overall even if you completely ignore the plot, this game is a feast for the eyes. Having played it very recently 165fps at 2k I can tell you I'm glad I decide to come back to it. The hardware finally honors the piece of art the devs worked so hard on. Cheers stranger have a nice day

It might actually be a good idea to play this on Xbox Series X than PC. Sure, it's not 60fps. However, it does still have: 1. 4k resolution (from the Xbox One X update) 2. The live-action show actually in the game's files and not streamed from the Internet 3. Smoother transitions from gameplay to cutscenes (30fps to 30fps) Hopefully the game won't be forever stuck in license limbo and we will get a re-release one day that actually includes the live-action show and makes cutscenes 60fps.

The live episode concept was a horrible idea. It's like Remedy did not want to do all the work to develop a full playable game, and decided just just film half of it as video episodes instead of video game episodes. It advertises itself as a seamless experience, when actually it is the total opposite and does not feel seamless at all. And the streaming doesn't work anyway, forcing you to watch on youtube if want want to watch them. I am huge Remedy fan, but they botched this game up. I am playing just now, but only because it is on Gamepass.

What's wrong with product placement? It is ultra dumb not to do it, it is a piece of history. No one in one's right mind would love a game that has made-up stuff and no roots in reality. I simply despise such games and I love alternate-reality/future games in which you can see where they split off from reality to make its own thing within a believable world. This is why Elden Ring or The Witcher will never be able to top Assassin's Creed or Deus Ex. A game needs to have roots in reality.

Yeah in hindsight I shouldn't have made such a focus on the obvious Nokia windows phones/Microsoft product placement. It is fine and as you said it is a piece of history and reminds us that there was a time when Windows Phone was an actual thing. To be honest I kind of miss it.
