To think that both Origins and Blackgate would end up teasing a Suicide Squad game from WB Montreal, only for that to completely fall through and another one made by Rocksteady themselves would see the light of day... only to completely disregard the previous set up and settle for being a looter shooter. Yeah ,that game is DOA.

Besides the more unique boss fights, one of the few positives about Blackgate is the fact that you can actually unlock skins instead of having to buy them. Oh, and the plot isn’t hijacked by Joker, for once.

I loved Arkham VR to death, mainly due to the Riddler content it has, but man was it a wasted idea. It was too short for it's own good, to the point where when it ended I was like: "That's it..? THAT was Arkham VR?!" Needless to say, that experience was great while it lasted, but disappointing when it ended
@toumabyakuya Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it should have been multiple nights were we get to see these changes gradually. For example: - Night 1: Normal dream. - Night 2: Now include the easter egg were things are jokerified randomly and change back to normal when players check them back (just as it happens in AK). - Night 3: Start including random mentions of things Batman doesn't want to happen happening. Especially, make close reference to Robin's death. - Night 4: Hide the joker himself everywhere. - Night 5: This is when everything we saw in VR happens. By doing it like this you add more content and also improve the foreshadowing to AK.

The "It's a handheld game" is the video game equivalent of "It's a kids movie". Both of them have a place like you can't do certain things on a handheld or a kids movie, but that doesn't mean it has to be boring and bad. I just never understood these defenses because it devalues good handheld games and good kid films.

Njaaaeeeii, I kinda get your point, but I don't really agree with you. I kinda see it like people complaining about sertain movies. Yeah, there wasn't any deapth to the story and emotions in Fast and the Furious, but that is not what it's trying to do - just like the action scenes in Love Acctually was fucking LAAAAME :P You are correct that it is not a complete defence to say "It's a handheld", but at the same time you have to look at the platform and accept its drawbacks. I kinda liked the game, and don't think it sucks. It is not as great as the other games in the series but for a handheld, it's actually a good conversion of the gameplay.

It's really strange that The Joker is the main villain of the entire series, yet never delivered a proper boss battle between him and Batman. Asylum had the absolutely awful Titan Joker fight, City didn't feature a fight with him because he was terminally ill (which at least made sense for the story), Origins had an incredibly underwhelming quick-time event "fight" and Knight had that surreal psychological "fight" in Batman's mind. Funnily enough, the only time we got an actual combat-based boss battle against The Joker was in the Matter of Family DLC with Batgirl and Robin. In fairness, it was a solid boss battle and DLC, but I think everyone would have much preferred if it was with Batman himself.

It's still very weird that WB tried to make the Suicide Squad a thing for a while. 2 video games setting up an Arkham Suicide Squad, a direct-to-video movie about the Suicide Squad in the Arkham-verse, a standalone Suicide Squad film in the direct-to-video animated universe, the DCEU Suicide Squad film nobody liked, the better DCEU Suicide Squad film that was released during the pandemic, and a looter shooter video game that nobody has any confidence in and led to the founders of Rocksteady leaving the studio. Why, of all properties that DC owned, was that being pushed as a pillar in the DC brand for a decade?
@JsReviews Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it is weird. And I don’t know if this is a hot take or not, but I don’t really find the idea that interesting. "VR is a gimmick that never grabbed me. It just seemed like something you"d play at a house party and that was it." I hear this all the time and it will never make sense to me. Games are about inhabiting a world. VR accomplishes that on a level you could never approximate with a monitor. It completely eliminates the passive aspect of gaming. You are no longer watching something happen to someone else, you are involved. If it was cheaper I think you'd see more people jumping onboard. When I had my Oculus developer's kit I found Dolphin VR and wound up playing all my old GameCube favorites like Wind Waker and Metroid Prime. The idea of going back to those games without VR just sounds boring now. The biggest problem with VR is the lack of confidence. I see so many titles that refuse to let players walk or turn because the developers are worried about motion sickness, which makes as much sense to me as taking the wheels off a car because you're worried about getting into an accident. That said, I was one of those weirdos that thought 3D movies were cool as fuck whereas everyone else just complained about having to wear glasses. I feel like some of our coolest technology will always be artifically hampered by the public's reluctance to do anything they haven't already done a thousand times. People clown on VR while they're perfectly satisfied paying for dumbass emotes in the latest looter-shooter clone. Pretty sure I was born on the wrong planet or at the wrong time or something

Not really a great experience, but I guess that sums up half of my VR experiences with that, and Spider-Man Far From Home VR getting boring pretty quickly, I’ve still had something good before since Rec Room is pretty fun but that’s really only with friends for me, the only VR game I’ve played that I’ve legitimately loved is Iron Man VR

I actually played Arkham City Lockdown and the Origins mobile games back in the day, Lockdown I found fun as a little like 9 year old on an iPad because "hey! More of the thing I like!" but in retrospect it probably wasn't that great. I remember the origins game being very similar, just a little more padded out, but I didn't play it nearly as much. The combat in both was reminiscent of a very stripped down version of the injustice mobile game I also played - where combat consists of tapping and swiping, and wasn't really that interesting. Lockdown was pretty fun though and I have good memories of it, but I haven't been able to find a way to revisit it since.

Arkham VR wasn't that bad. In fact, it serves as a really good introduction to VR if you're a Batman fan because it's not one that you're likely to get motion sick in due to being grounded in a body and standing stationary with teleport movement. Definitely a game you have to stand up to get the most out of though. Also it is surprisingly graphically impressive because the psvr had issues with blurriness but this game is mostly dark so it was able to hide a lot of the pixel shading.
