Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is one of the biggest live-service flops in gaming history. I didn't play it when it was released until I got it for free, so I decided to give it a playthrough and give my thoughts on it.

The fact that King Shark is a villain and is unworthy of wielding a Green Lantern Ring and is pure instinct. Alongside the fact that if a Lantern dies, their ring is transferred to someone else who is deemed worthy, and if a Lantern runs amok, their ring is revoked and is given to someone else who is deemed worthy.

Don't get me wrong, I love Harley (well not in this game), however she's more of DCs Deadpool than the 4th leg the universe stands on. Frankly the Flash fits the definition of a fourth piller, given how much focus he and the Flash Family gets. But Harley is more of a fun street level character, who DC unfortunately forgets can have more serious moments as well. Which makes ones like her role and character in the Joker War storyline that much more fun to read. But as a Harley fan, I wish DC would use her character more spairingly, but also make her a character again, not an excuse to draw people in

A detail I hate about the recent takes on the suicide squad is the fact they keep reusing the same collection of famous Batman villains. The coolest part of the concept of the SS is using a mix of underused characters to pull off these big heists and schemes no hero or anti hero would willingly do. It’s why I’m excited for the creature commandos film and why polkadot man, rat catcher 2, and bloodsport have still stayed in my mind for the last few years. It also adds nice tension to any plot because, well, they’re the suicide squad. DC is much more willing to kill of minor unknown villan characters at any moment, so there’s real tension if anyone dies or if they’re gonna make it out. They won’t do that for this game, but that’s a huge grievance with this cast

Kinda late, but: That's honestly more a mechanical format problem. Rocksteady and WB shallowly saw the Suicide Squad as a live-service looter shooter goldmine (even though they launched with less characters than the already failed Avengers live-service), as opposed to the "classic mode Fire Emblem or X-Com, but jobber super-villains" premise that's way more fitting.

This game kinda embodies Warner bros biggest issue and that's the fact they just don't understand the video game industry. I agree that canonicity is a bitch, but I think everyone has their own preferences on how a character should be portrayed. I think that’s just him expressing that. Also, I think if you’re going to play around with the Arkhamverse, there should be at least some consistency with the characters.

I agree the Arkham Canon is weird, but I think the main arguement is that the game's existence kinda undoes Arkham Knight's ending by having back so easily and then killing him off after we've spent 4 games with him. I think a lot of people would have liked the premise if it wasn't connected to the Arkham games, which is ironic because said connection was probabily just to make the game more appealing. Gotham Knights I'm pretty sure was also meant to be in Arkham originally, and a story of Batman's sidekicks continuing after his death makes a lot more sense in the universe.

Never before have I felt the biggest case of schadenfreude seeing this game flop. A game like this does NOT deserve to make any money whatsoever. In regards to Batman's treatment, I'll say that while it didn't disrespect Kevin Conroy, it did crap all over Arkham Batman as a character. After everything he's been through, THIS is how his story ends? Give me a break. As for the Flash finger, Green Lantern ring thing, I have two things to say. For the former, I just chalk that up to them forgetting to change the model as Flash has a cybernetic thumb in one of the trailers and when he returns in the Mrs. Freeze Expansion, he still has all ten digits. For the latter, I just chalk that up to the writers not having a clue how Green Lantern rings work. Let's not forget, according to the Jason Schreier article, Sefton Hill would rip out massive chunks of the script on the fly, so that didn't help with people not knowing if the League are supposed to be brainwashed or clones. Also, GOD I cannot stand Tara Strong as Harley Quinn. She is SO annoying. Get Hynden Walch back. Please!

I do recommend the James Gunn movie. It's a lot better than Assault on Arkham and the first live action movie. (Though it's hard NOT to be better than the first live action one.) Though it feels like EVERY adaptation of them refuses to stick to the idea of them being villains sent on black ops missions and wants them to be saving the world, or at least a city, by the end. Except for that one episode of Justice League where Task Force X infiltrated the Watchtower. And maybe the animated movies after the first, I've only seen the Arkham one.

I’m sorry, but there are some pretty bad takes in this video. For one, your point on the Arkham canon being a mess feels like cherry picking on small details. Like it could be possible Harley was an Arkham Asylum psychiatrist called over to Blackgate. Also, this story is not just okay and it’s no way better than Gotham Knights. Thats the entire issue with this Concept and should have been scrapped from the start. The idea that some D List Villians (most with NO Powers) can take down a Team of Heroes that Defeat Universal Threats is a Joke. Then to top it off they beat them with GUNS! They even make fun of this whole idea at the Beginning with Flash stopping Deadshot from doing just that, and he IS their Marksman. If this had them going around the World taking out Target they COULD stop, then this idea could have worked. Could even end it with them stopping a Villain like Luther in the end. Maybe even tease them needing to Stop Batman in a DLC, or another Game, but NOT the JL.

Regardless what you or I think, the basic fact of the matter is that the League we killed where clones and the real League are being hidden by Brainiac throughout the multiverse-and in the next few seasons we’re bringing them all back. So it’s not actually the end for Bats-in fact quite a lot of people agree that it could allow a future Arkham game with Batman or the League to happen (with Roger Craig Smith voicing instead of Kevin tho)

Until the clumsy reveal in Season 2, this entire "Clone" thing was just a Theory, because the only real Clue was Fans trying to excuse the HORRIBLE Writing. Before this there was also Theories they were Multiversal Versions of them. To me the Calendar Man Easter Egg does not count, because its just an Easter Egg. Many Easter Eggs are just for fun and dont actually go anywhere, so I never count them as "Proof". Just Creators having some fun and leaving Hints at what they MAY like to do if it was up to them. In the end I feel they left it Vague enough that they could just Write up any reason to undo it if they got enough Backlash, or leave them dead if people enjoyed it. For me either way it was Bad Writing. They did not have the Skill to pull off what they were going for. It either required them to Ignore DC Cannon, or they just didnt know it well enough to understand what they got wrong.

Like, a co-op mobility shooter where you play as distinct characters with your friends against superheroes as bosses. That's not a bad pitch! I think a reasonable answer is to exclaim that many find "Evil Batman" or "Evil Superman" boring concepts, including myself. When you remove the aspects that make those characters human, they lose much of their appeal. J himself even brought up how much Evil Supes has been overused in media that many are clamoring for his more optimistic portrayal to return. I agree that the "Batgod" characterisation that makes Bruce seem perfect can also be frustrating (it helps ground his character when we're reminded Bruce is still human. This is why I found Batman Arkham Origins the most interesting characterisation of him in the Arkham series), but I personally don't find much appeal in brainwashed Bruce. At least not with this game's execution. The appeal of heroes, wether they are relatable or not, is that they inspire us.

Honestly I kinda understand the Kevin Conroy argument but I think it would be better to say it's a slap to the legacy of Arkham Batman as a character rather than the voice behind the Bat, killing the original focus of the Arkham-verse the way it was handled. The scene itself was merely a victim of unfortunate timing regarding Kevin's passing, but beyond that context I feel it could have improved to give a more satisfying ending to Arkham Batman upon his demise instead of just Harley simply shooting him in the head.

The problem isn't really that batman's death disrespects Conroy, but that it disrespects Arkham Batman, they could have brought a Batman from a different universe like they did with Deadshot, but the fact that they chose a Batman that we played with for DECADES and gave him this ending was really sad. Fun fact: This isn't even the first time Kevin Conroy played an evil batman willing to take lives, only to lose and die. In the Arrowverse's Crisis on Infinite Earths, he played the Bruce Wayne of Earth-99 in live action, an aging Bruce who killed his universe's Superman, and couldn't stop killing his villains. In the end, he died after attempting to kill Earth-38's Supergirl, only to be taken down by Earth-1's Batwoman.

For what I've seen, it can sums up as the followed: - Too much info on the screen that is for those suffering from ADHD (which is not a good sign) - OK gameplay but nothing special compared to all characters - Awful script thanks to a certain consultation group - the fact that it is set in the Arkham universe is a complete dissapointment (not only Batman but look what happened to Poison Ivy) - Being a AAA game, it has season + battlepass to milk as much money as possible. - no offline option Glad I skipped this game and stick with the original Arkham trilogy.

If you're one of the eight people that played through the DLC, they explicitly confirm that the Justice League you fought in the base game were all clones, and you rescue The Flash at the end of Season 2. It seems like the main story arc for the remaining seasons is going to be rescuing the remaining Justice League members.

No matter how good the graphics look or how good the voice acting is,disrespecting the canon of the Arkham series and the Justice league ruins it! While I do agree with some points in this video, I would advise serious caution on a stance like "fuck canon." It's somewhat applicable to the Arkham-Verse due to how broken it has become, but shouldn't be a standard defense. After all, "what is canon" is the very foundation of a story and disregarding that means potentially losing all investment. One thing you didn't touch upon in regards to Kevin Conroy is his dedication at the end of the game. Knowing that this game wasn't Kevin Conroy's last as Batman was a relief but the game still did something which bothered me slightly. When the voice over finishes and the screen goes black after his dedication, the game will move on to show you what you'd unlocked for completing the game. That felt a little icky to me personally. I would've preferred if the game restarted or showed a Press Start screen, then show what you've unlocked. That way, his dedication is separated from the games content and allowed to breath before going back to gameplay. I don't know how other people feel about that part, but this is just how I feel...

I think a Suicide Squad game could have worked, but not in this genre. Do it more like Commando or Desperado. A real time tactics game, where you use the Squad to perform black ops missions. Each having to use their unique skills to move towards the mission objective. There's real potential there for a fun game.

Ironically "Darklordjadow1" did a review on the game and it's updates as of recent and confirmed that YES they ARE going down the "they were ALL clones" bit! So far last I heard, you rescue Flash after beating Brainiac (AGAIN) and they SPOILED without meaning to (or caring) that Wonder woman may come back to life (making her "Death/Sacrifice" pointless for how good it is! Hate it or love the story, to cower and cope out of it is pretty fucking pathetic in my opinion) Bad or Good! I respect when people STICK to the story they establish! Retcons are for when you make expansions to a story via sequels and an established bit in Lore blocks the attempt to establish an attention to the Lore of the story and world (Something I see alot of in a few series I love like Xenoblade! But I CAN forgive it since the Retcons are minor at BEST and are harmless! I'm not like those LORE FANATICS who froth at the mouth when they find even the SMALLEST of Plot Holes and hang onto that for SPOONY ONE levels of "BETRAYAL" rants! Except out of fairness to Spoony One, when he did that for the last Ultima game, EA were being DICKS and CRASHING the established lore like Disney did to Star Wars in a pathetic attempt to "make it their own!" So THOSE are legit. The ones who Froth at the mouth seem to be ULTRA MEGA fanboys/girls who really need to go touch grass and "smell the roses and dog shit" outside to remember REALTY and calm the fuck down!) STOP HERE BY THE WAY, I'm going to get REALLLY ranty below! Read at your own risk (not like it will stop the idiotic "DUDE MADE AN ESSAY A'Yuk" commenters who will let this fly RIGHT over them!) And yeah, SS: KTJL is a bad game, but it did have it's moments, though that's mostly story and the performances from everyone was good! I could do without some of the Retcons like what they did with Floyd just to justify making him Black! Honestly maybe it would have been better NOT to connect this to the Arkham series because of the plot holes and trying to use the Especially in regards to Harley who had her ANNOYING moments of "being a STRONG INDEPENDANT WOMAN" which makes little sense for Arkham Harley who was ready to MURDER lots of people just to "avenge" Mr. J because she REFUSED to believe Batman didn't purposely let him die! Nothing in what we saw of Harley ESPECIALLY after Knight indicate her becoming like how she is in the mainstream comics! THAT came from Joker abusing and betraying her one too many times that she finally woke the fuck up to the Toxicity and she STILL has moments of wanting to run back to him! Injustice Harley well NOT the movie/comic version of Injustice Harley at least makes SENSE with her evolution, enough time without the Joker and working with Batman and his group along with coming to TERMS with her involvement in Superman's fall and Lois & her child with Clark/Kal death did take it's TOLL that Crane's Fear Gas showed her NEW greatest fear was going BACK to those days where she did everything Joker! Hell the whole falling out with Pamela in that universe made sense because let's face it! As much as some of us LIKE Pamela x Harley! Pamela is just as toxic as "Jack Napier" was to Harley in enabling her worse traits! Only plus is she isn't physically abusive to Harley as Joker was. But still Toxic because of her OBSESSIONS with The Green and HER idea that she's HELPING IT by killing humanity when looking at Swamp Thing who IS the Green's champion, it has a dislike for humanity, but leaves them to their devices, only REALLY going after the BIGGEST threats to itself and nature among humanity instead of just BLAMING the entire race! Harley at least GREW and I liked her....in the Injustice games, specifically Injustice 2 (honestly that was actually they BETTER story because it doesn't bother to try to MENTION Multiverse stuff like the first game was FULL of! I can enjoy it being it's OWN elseworld special world because of it). But yeah compared to Floyd, Harley feels like the BIGGER offender of retcons and character re-railment! I can at least safely ignore Floyd! But as said, better to have NOT used Arkham when you remember King Shark WAS used along with Boomerang and BOTH were killed off! Essentially they had to RETCON the Assault on Arkham movie in order to make this game WORK Honestly Waller and Debra Wilson kept me invested! I've always been a fan of her since Mad TV when I was young and was HAPPY to see she and Phil Lamarr still have work and have performed in ALOT of the things I like! Debra especially as I find it funny when they PUT HER IN THE MODEL of her characters and her characters just WORK in the world their placed in! ESPECIALLY as Waller as I'll say this is the one and likely ONLY time I LOVE Slim Waller! I usually HATE when they make Waller SLIM or TOO Fat because I liked how despite being old and tubby! She can still handle herself quite well! This is perhaps the ONLY "Slim Waller" I LOVE thanks to Debra Performance as her as she's PLAYING Amanda as she is! Amanda has always SKIRTED if not LOVINGLY trampled "the Line" between "Needs of the Many" and being "as much if not MORE of a monster then the Criminals she's press-ganging into Task Force X under threat of death and by ANY means! It's why Deadshot was a popular mainstay in the Squad along with Boomer! Boomer was dead because he's a POS, the BIGGEST one among Flash's villains NOT NAMED EOBARD THAWNE! I mean even the ROGUES have issue with him because they're just in the end, professional Bank Robbers who act accordingly (as in TRY to avoid casualties as much as possible for the sake of NOT bringing extreme HEAT from Heroes and the Police on themselves! Many almost forget sans a few, MANY of Flash's villains aren't evil, either trapped in the life of petty crime in the case of Snart/Captain Cold or able to be talked into changing sides like Pied Piper! Those Villains at best fight Flash, but never aim to kill him compared to Boomer of course) but Boomer, there's nothing he won't LOWER himself to get what he wants! Floyd is a professional killer yes, but he's no different then FLAGG, difference is Flagg is a Government Agent at the end of the day, even if he adorns to "THE GREATER GOOD" compared to Floyd who doesn't work for free and RARELY has he really gone after "those who didn't have it coming" not that he isn't still NEUTRAL EVIL because he HAS gone after some like Bruce Wayne even if Bruce is using the "Rich Guy with no day job" even if he also has good deeds attached to himself! And Bronze Tiger HAS called him out on hiding behind "taking care of Zoe and her mom" to justify much of his behavior (He HAS taken contracts on those like JOKER for MUCH his lower rates if they became something he sees as a POTENTIAL threat to Zoe in the future! Like at the time Joker's antics were on KIDS. So Floyd DOES have a line he won't cross) and that's why BOOMER is teamed with him! Amanda isn't taking the chance Floyd grows a conscience and disobeys or undermines orders EVEN with a ticking time bomb when she NEEDS the objective MET! Boomer she KNOWS is amoral and greedy, and will do ANYTHING to get ahead, so has NO problem doing what even DEADSHOT won't do (Like in the Gunn movie! Won't spoil, but it DOES acknowledge what I said about Boomer and Deadshot! Having two members with similar skill sets, but different moral compasses and what their willing to do) Amanda will do what SHE believes is best if it puts America and in essence HERSELF ahead! Only ones you can SAY she cares about is her surviving kids, and they exist as motivators for WHY she's ruthless and comparing her to Floyd in that ultimately they are NOT a EXCUSE for their actions! Floyd HAS had many MANY Face Heel Turns if it was for ZOEY. Where Amanda's PAST with using and throwing away "Assets" came back to haunt her and while she WON against him! He still got her by EXPOSING to her children HOW she's been able to finance their "better life" since getting them out the SLUMS! That's also the OTHER reason I hate SLIM Amanda Waller, they retcon her FAMILY and so HURT her character by having her "be as she is" without too much EXCUSE! I liked Amanda cause she reminded me (As a black man) of my own mother and how far she would go for me and my younger siblings! Amanda is like an EVIL counterpart because she crosses lines my mother would NEVER cross to do what "needs to be done" cause Amanda has gone COLD with morality as it "get in the way" that she LONG past "He who fights MONSTERS"

I've never played this game cause nothing about it got me interested in the slightest. I also don't like live service games, in general. However, Batman's death was not the reason I ever didn't want to play this. It still blows my mind how so many mindless people started tearing into Rocksteady over Kevin's death, like they had any idea at all that Kevin was going to die. People seriously need to figure out how to separate life and art again. The complete lack of critical thinking with groups of people has seriously plummeted in recent years. But anyway, good video. The fact that they had to rewrite Deadshot and Harley should have been an indication that they should not have even used the Arkham canon, just make it an original timeline, then no one would care, and they wouldn't have to write in all the ridiculous nonsense. But it sounds like they just had bad writing overall. Well, to be honest the Suicide Squad in general should not be a superhero franchise. They should only be a wetwork group for mercenary type jobs, not fighting superheroes they are not in that weight class unless you give them contrived powerups that everyone will hate. The same criticism was made of the movie, but since this is a game now you have to add in all the mechanics of... games. How does this band of idiots harm superman? Shoot him with guns. Why? Because screw you.

I'm a lot harsher on the game but otherwise agree with your opinion. Except for the "fuck canon." Strongly disagree with that. Though on the subject of Kevin and his relation to this game, I think the blame for that would be the game awards where it had its world premiere trailer. The host said, "He will return to Rocksteady's Arkhamverse for one FINAL time to play Batman." Yeah, in hindsight he did specify that it was specifically Rocksteady's Arkhamverse, but there was a reason that almost immediately after the cutscene of batman's death started to circulate, WB revealed that crisis part 3 was his TRUE final performance as batman. I know a few people that bought this game for Kevin as tribute. Which would make that cutscene and the fate of Arkham batman in general VERY Unappealing.

Honestly, I think this game should have been a Batman focused game. I think they could still have Brainiac take control of most of it not all of the Justice League and have Batman try freeing them from their mind control one at a time and learn to be a more trusting team player. Also, if they wanted the Suicide Squad in the game, they could have them as a boss fight or more Batman has to face so they don't kill the League or something. I just really don't think the direction the developers took was the right idea

Kill the Justice League would be a bad game regardless of it was set in the Arkham Timeline, but it is still set in the timeline with the intent of getting audiences to care about it for that reason. I dislike more than it didn't take full advantage of that timeline to tell its story or flesh out it's characters. The4thSnake covered this topic well in a video of his about it.
