I PLAYED THE BEST TANK FROM OLD TOP TIER - IS-3 in War Thunder

The IS-3 in War Thunder was once Top Tier. Now it sits almost right in the middle as a former relic facing modern era vehicles, HEAT-FS, APFSDS, Laser Range Finders and ATGM's.
What was once an almost invincible wall of steel is now reduced to a giant Silver Lion Pinata. Today, I take the IS-3 out to revisit it to see if it still has the metal to stand up against the new War Thunder Meta!

DO NOT USE BR-471D! USE BR-471B! The B round is ungodly again angles, the main point of the 122mm. Do not trust the stat card, D round WILL bounce on even the slightest angles, it is wholly unreliable against all the tanks at the BR, the only point the D round had was to go through maus turrets, which it no longer can, its useless, at most carry 1 or 2 rounds of it, and the rest B rounds.

Russian tanks are known to be very small compared to most. The IS-3 is almost 2 feet shorter than the Tiger 1!

IS-3 and IS-6 are very small tanks compared to allied and axis tanks. Look up size comparison of T54 and challenger for example. The T54 looks like a toy tank.

I don't understand why gaijin doesn't just have the air spawns set as.. props start at 7km and jets at 14km and maybe a middle ground for early jets as some arn't overly fast. such a simple fix instead of making props fly so far on some br's and jets spawn so close on others.

Facing IS3's and IS6's in my T95 is always fun. Most don't realize that shooting the cupola is the easiest way to kill a tutel, so watching them not being able to kill you is fun.

Man this thing is such an easy kill in the eland. After theyve shot, you have time to hit them in the commander (to fight the 14,5mm since it can pen ya) and drive around them to get to their ammo

"Best tank" and "Never entered combat" don't really go together. It's certainly a really cool and unique design, and I'm sure it performed well on paper, but that isn't enough to determine actual performance.

as a KT enjoyer, i love fighting these things they generally arent aware of their weak points, so in my experience most IS3s think that things that can fight them are all or nothing, and just assume the KT is in the "nothing" category probably also german stereotypes :v not expecting them to know how to play the game

Bane of my existence, when I do the protection analysis of the is3 against my tank it says it can pen all but a few places on the front, (using a 120m with 480mm pen) but I swear 80% of the time I shoot it I get no pen or shell shattered or if it does pen XD It does no damage, I have to side shot it

In Warthunder however, where bills are paid by wehraboos and Michael Wittman wannabees, All tiger competition is uptiered, and russian shells are nerfed.

Honestly I'm suprised how many players fear the IS-6 more than the IS-3, especially Tiger IIs. With good aim you can one shot or at least cripple the IS-6 with a shot to the turret front. This thing tho, it a pain to face in a Tiger II, no good places to shoot frontally except barrel, which just feels bad.

One match I was in my Tiger 2 105. Came around a rock and saw an IS3 sitting on the capture point. Saw his turret slew around so his barrel was facing me. (I have my gunsight set to the gunners position). I knew i had one shot, or i was dead. Shot my round into the shot trap right under the barrel and into the hull roof, and killed the IS3. If someone knows the weak spot, they can exploit it.

bro really you had a 10.5 thats not great news for you.. your tank can eliminate everything.. i pick some is3 and is4m with shermans.. and what shermans... the M4A2 the 4.0.. that i carried by mistake.i believed that it was the w76... that i saw 2 months later.. and that m4a2 was the last tank i had that time. in my disposal.. and i got him.. it was fun to stop him.. then run to the sides and kill him. if someone knows how to kill an enemy can kill it.. is 3 and the t-10 have a huge lip in the nose.. that lip is a huge weak point.. that can penetrated very very easy.. a killed 1 T-10M.. on that spot.. with an AML 90.. he had the higher ground.. he try to charge on me.. i bust his trucks.. he repair.. he try to look at me.. i shot him. he died.. i laugh.. hard.. no one in my team came to help for 5 min.. period.. and i holding alone the cap .. having to deal with that thing..
