"Macabre" is pronounce "Ma-cob" in the US. In some European countries it's pronounced "Ma-cab-brah," but in France it is pronounced "Ma-cob-bah," but the "bah" is VERY quick.

Huh, I'm from France, and we actually pronounce it "ma-kah-bruh", and while we indeed pronounce the last syllable really fast, we definitely pronounce the R, and the "ca" is a distinct "ah" sound.

FYI, I was taught that macabre is a special word and ma-COB, ma-COB-bra, AND ma-COB-er are all considered "correct" pronunciations, lol.

Macabre is a French word, so it doesn’t follow common English rules. The “re” is not really pronounced. It is basically just “macab.” I think they say the “re” in British English
