I've found the BEST way to learn a brand new job is to take it through PotD starting at level 1-50, then moving on to HoH later. You get your skills 1 by 1 as you level up. You read one tooltip at a time, learn what it does and how to use it. Then you get the next skill, read the tooltip, learn what it does, then learn to fit it into your 'rotation' and slowly by floor 50 the job starts to come together in your brain. No text dumps of trying to figure out 30 skills at once and how they play together, it just shows you. You learn any new job JUST the same way you would be learning a level 1 class at the start of the game. But a lot faster. I find it gives you a better fundamental understanding of the building blocks of the job. Doing it this way(for me) has the added benefit of your lower level skills being far more accessible so content is less confusing when you scale down for roulettes and the like. You've already played the job from level 1 so you know exactly how it will scale down, and already know what will and won't be available to you and are still able to play the job fluidly with no 'scale shock' of suddenly losing everything and having no idea what's actually left or where it is.
@shigeminotoge45146 ай бұрын
@rickmel09 That's fine if you learn that way, but some people don't like taking in large blocks of text all at once. or have _difficulty_ taking in large blocks of text at once due to visual disabilities that would make that fatiguing. This is a strategy for people who would struggle to do it your way.

Probably end up sticking with my scholar, summoner, dark knight, dancer, and reaper. Though, I'll be honest and say I haven't got the flow yet for reaper since I rarely ever melee dps. I will say a difficult to pick up class could have a genuinely natural job class flow. Focusing on the mechanics of the job and how to use them. Teach tricks and tips. Maybe even be playful and teach unorthodox uses of certain patterns. Rather than, here is some new stuff and a fancy meter with instructional text.

I know a lot of people don't want the jobs to be easy because they feel good having mastered them. I personally appreciate that the jobs may end up being "easier" because I have a huge amount of anxiety about endgame in this game. I probably have spent too much time listening to endgame players talk about people who waste their time and don't know their jobs that it makes me not want to even finish and catch up in the story. But hearing that viper is "easy" to learn makes me a little hopeful that when I get to Dawntrail I don't have to be afraid. I still try my best but I worry I won't know something and someone will get mad at me, and it feels bad when I make mistakes because of all the times I've heard my friends talk about people wasting their time. I don't want to waste anyone's time... so I don't play. I know I'm probably taking it way too seriously, and I hope I can get past this for Dawntrail. (Don't tell me to just go watch a guide, I've watched them, I just don't always have the energy to re-learn a job or master it the way it feels like I have to.)

You sound like me. I want to do more Extremes (have cleared two on patch!) and some Savages, but mechanics sift out of my brain and my rotation is just whatever I remember to press in a rhythm. I hated putting my friends through my crap, lol, but we got through those Extremes. All that to say: you can clear harder content even if you don't play your job "optimally", so unless you plan to do Ultimates, I wouldn't stress yourself out that much about it. My advice to you is to analyze yourself with these questions as a guiding point: 1) Do you remember to use your buffs and debuffs (and mitigations, if you play a tank)? If you use things like Feint and Mantra before a raid-wide, stay within the healer's range, and space out your buffs/mits, you're already off to a decent start. Yes, I've seen a Paladin use Rampart immediately after they used Sentinel... in Expert roulette when their health was fine, we were fighting a single pack of trash, their gear was ok, and the healer was still alive. It wasn't a misclick, they just didn't know what they were doing because they leveled the job solely through tribe quests, Wondrous Tales, and PVP. 2) What mistakes do you notice people make in dungeons, trials, and raids? Do you notice yourself making the same mistakes? 3) How do you engage with your party? Do you respond to genuinely constructive feedback? Are you willing to try helping others and pointing out things you notice? Are you willing to ask for help? 4) Have you ever done an Extreme? If no, start there. If you have friends who play, see if they'll join you, bonus points if they're already raiders like mine were. I think you'll find that even though some people can be freaking nasty, others would be happy just to have more people trying because the folks who stick with it often become addicted and will be present for more raids in the future. This was all over the place, but I hope this gives you some measure of focus and direction. Best of luck to you!! o7

I don't raid, I don't do extremes, I'm not interested in hard content. I just want the little combat I do to be satisfying and slightly challenging to pull off. So I guess I have to keep playing exclusively Black Mage. Pictomancer definitely doesn't fit my character, but if it's harder, then I might end up playing it and loving it anyway. Making difficulty focused on the bosses is such a massive mistake for a game where such a significant amount of players don't even fight those bosses. It would have made MUCH more sense to do the exact opposite, to make the bosses easier but classes more challenging to play, that way even doing dungeons or hunts is fun. Ugh.

With the release of a little game called Rabbit and Steel, I think more involved boss mechanics and simple job functions can actually be really fun. Why should I need to focus on a trillion buttons dependent on my input speed and things I have to do when puzzle solving the boss is more fun.

i thought the concept of the word Viper was for its SPEED not for poison... i mean cars have "viper" names. the class is looks great! the only thing im dreading is seeing either 4 vipers or 4 pictos in raids/trials all trying to one up each other for like a whole month lol..

Snakes don't do poison either they do venom. Venomous bite. But they also have to be quick to strike.

You just unsold me on viper, I dont appreciate all jobs trying their best to make SMN look good. Regardless of the teenie-weenie core content
