One thing he didn't mention is that the 3 hits for Atonement have their own 30 second buff for each hit. Not just 3 stacks with one timer. So each hit refreshes the buff so you can spread those things way out if you need to.

Super good too, because the final Atonement and I think the second are actually highest priority on your filler GCDs during burst window, so gotta keep that last one around if possible

The Requiescat to Imperator change.... notice it also makes the move RANGED now. Meaning you can use it as an opener! And in general, this makes it more flexibility. This is welcome because while Confiteor was ranged, Requiescat was not, making it weird to have to close a gap before being able to use a longer range ability.

@@renarenacat As an AOE opener, I suppose. It's still a useful change because you can slam a trash pack at distance, immediately, as You're still running or running past them, and have better enmity than just lobbing a shield. Any amount of extra range is very welcome, IMO.

You will never optimally open with Imperator. You should never use it without using FoF first, and you wouldn't use FoF until you are within range and raid buffs are going.

idk, I main PLD and i think these are all pretty welcome changes. Glad for the buffs and some new rotations for sure. The graphics will be pretty to spam lol. I guess I am more excited, though, for that 15-second addition as well as a few more MP recharges. God knows you become a step-in blue healer, and you're suddenly drained of everything you got before healers can be rez.

I like most of the changes (on all jobs) and i love the option to "Goring Blade" and "Flight or Fight" be on the same button HOWEVER and they still haven't given players the possibility to do the same with "Requiecast" (now "Imperator") and "Confliteor"... A bit strange... but ok.

Kinda wish our healing action got a reduse in cost or an mp increase, so we're not struggling if healing ain't up to snuff (yes i have had to use clemency ALOT in some fights cause healers r slacking) also mayhaps increase the mp gifted by the atonement combo cause getting round 1,200 or so mp per combo isn't good at all when everything costs 1k or 2k to cast (goes to 2,200 with in combo riot blade which still ain't great at all..... ESPECIALLY SINCE CONFIDIOR COMBO COSTS 4K TO USE)

It's not really a good idea to try to compare potencies between jobs. There are too many moving parts. No potency exists in a vacuum.

Don't think too hard on the potencies. They'll end up getting changed with the rest of the battle classes after a month post release. Outside of that, GNB has always been the hardest hitting tank, kind of what its known for

That's what people said in Endwalker in reaction to things like Bloodwhetting and Heart of Corundum. Healers always also get tons of new heal throughput power, but with often not very many practical use cases for all that power

Did dark knight and gunbreaker lose their damaging gap closers because they specifically have "too many weaves"? Because paladin and warrior seem to be keeping theirs. Also, why does Blade of Honor overwrite Requiescat/Imperator, when you could, say, have Requiscat/Imperator, Confiteor, and its entire blade spell combo all on one button? Or just tack Blade of Honor onto Blade of Valor as was done with all those other times? And why not just get rid of the 3x Atonement spam combo and put the new Sepulcher combo onto the earlier levels?

They might still drop the damage later on. Or maybe they figured that DRK and GNB are busy enough whereas WAR and PLD aren't. Truth be told I play all 4 tanks pretty regularly, with DRK being the one I play the least just because I hate how squishy it feels in dungeons. Really having a hard time deciding which one I'm going to level in DT with.

About Atonement? Paladins already had issues staying in the 2 minute burst window. Most guides recomend not doing all 3 atonement as it is. With even more moves, isn't that just going to make them drift worse?

That hasn't been a problem PLD has faced since the rework & even less so since 6.4. You should really check out the balance's guides, but anything that refers to the priority rotation should be good, too. Any guides which suggest not making use of all 3 atonements are either super outdated, or are pretty bad guides, I'm afraid. These changes shown here further encourage a priority style rotation, too, so we'll be doing that still in DT, and we don't have to experience any drifting at all.

@@ICountFrom0 Don't count on others to tell you how to play, especially people from The Balance. I always included 2 stacks of Atonement in my Fight or Flight rotation, and have since ShB. Its flat out more DPS alongside your offensive magic casts and Goring Blade.

It is very common for people to pass on worthwhile advice, but, be mistaken on the reasons why & how best to implement it, and ultimately mislead others. Since EW 6.3, delaying FOF & Req from party buffs is bad practice, but, so was not using all 3 sword oaths (esp since 6.4) - it is quite easy to satisfy both, as neither one is the only cure for the other. The 6.4 priority rotation is demonstrably the best general solution in EW today, and with everything we've seen from the media tour, it'll be the same approach in DT, too. However, our filler priorities *will* change, depending on the actual potencies at launch. However, it's important to remember that when someone gives advice, like, regardless of if their aim is to be kind, or to be a jerk, sometimes the nuances can just get lost - this comment included! Take care!

They did remove 1 button off your bar (Goring Blade now replaces Fight or Flight after you use it). And all the new spells are follow-ups to an existing combo, so you don't get new buttons either. Having said that, I do agree that it'd be nice if they reduced button bloat for paladin a bit, it's a little too much.

Potencies are gonna change between now and release. There's no way to know that now. Pld is not lacking in damage though. It has enough to clear all content and it's not far behind other tanks (it's not even the lowest damage tank this patch).

Goring Blade would better as it s now, but with it's recast timer being 30 seconds to make it more flexible outside of big bursts and Confiteor needs to be more flexible by having not tied being able to use a specific action first, since it's already balanced around that already in its tooltip(s). Also, still waiting for Shield Bash to be oGCD so I have an excuse to use it again. Also skills upgrading into new skills is dumb and I would rather that grant a buff that allows the old skills making the new ones ready.

I've gone through all of these videos by now, and to add to your last comment: Every job seems to be playing almost identically. Like new follow ups, so technically a few new button presses, but in practice there's no real change in rotation, opener, or how we might approach fights compared to Endwalker. It's a bit disappointing.

@@tsbulmerWhy would you separate it? Goring Blade is now only usable under the effects of FoF, so you can't use it separately. There's absolutely no reason to separate it because the time at which Goring Blade is accessible is also the time when FoF is on cooldown, which is why they switch places on your hotbar, and are conveniently right there. If you don't want to use Goring Blade during FoF, you don't have to. You just now can't use it outside of it, and that was always kind of pointless since their cooldowns lined up anyway, and in general it's been optimal to only use them together, as the developers expected you to.... and now explicitly force you to.

As someone who mained PLD since the ARR beta, this is incredibly disappointing to hear. I hated the rework to the job and this just doubled down on it. Another victim of the stupid 2 minute meta that caused job homogenization.
