cold embrace should pierce. Easier to manipulate the beams into hitting your target, so it’s central purpose would be easier to pull off, and it would just be generally better. More of a contender compared to artemis. It could either pierce zag only, so aiming the beam would be easier, or pierce enemies too for a general powee boost as well

that would make it much better probably. the biggest issue has always been that crystal clarity is just sooo much better and cold embrace is just clunky at best. it`s trickier to use and the dps overall will be much lower as it is more difficult to constantly hit a target with it.

The beam should slightly hit in an aoe around zag so you don't have to be so precise, hugging an enemy should be close enough to get beam hits even if they're not placed dead on.

Piercing Zag is far too overpowered, you would be able to stack casts in one spot and just run small circles around the beam, making a spinning death laser.

Approximately: 1 pom on beam is 1 dmg per tic for a damage increase of 5*duration, 1 pom on glare is 5 extra tics for a damage increase of 5*current damage. Thus the breakpoint of where poming beam is better than glare is when 5 * current beam duration has to be higher than 5 * current damage. The 5s cancel and you get a surprisingly simple answer that if damage is lower than duration in seconds poming the beam is better, otherwise glare is better.

Something can be said too for the ability to hunt/track targets... like for instance you'll almost never get every single tick of a crystal hitting the target, but by having the crystal on the field, it's more likely to land hits.

Agree with the person above me, and to kill bosses it is best to have as many beams on the field so when you line them up it stacks damage quickly, so you aren't in danger. It doesn't matter if your super strong beam can only have 4 on the map at once, especially when they go invulnerable, your just going to waste time dodging around forever. He could just tank hits to the face because he knew his dps was worth it.

I think math wise upgrading glacial glare over beam works out to be more dps unless you have very low levels of beam and very very high levels of glare. Like your glare would need to be pushing high teens I'd say while you beam would need to be like level 5 or so. But I think the added utility of extra duration is better than just the dps increase because the dps only matters if the beam hits an enemy and with the beams targeting you, you don't have that uptime so more duration makes it easier to get more damage out of it. Plus if you got the one that causes explosions at max chill, I'd say the duration is always better since you could just auto trigger it every second with enough beams.

From a strict dps perspective, when the added damage of cast is a smaller percent damage increase than glare's percent duration increase, glare is better. I'm not sure what the base duration of the crystal is, but if you know it the math is REALLY easy just 'cause they both give +1 per pom. So if duration > damage, pom the cast. If damage > duration, pom glare. If you have arctic blast it makes things a little bit more complicated since poming the cast doesn't help, but increased duration will.

I like cold embrace with fists. Since you gotta be on top of them anyway. You do miss out on any damage bonuses but it felt the most natural.

You do 5 runs and it gives you rainbow, then when you finally manage some coherency it's gods you don't really like or the game refuses to give you that one boon your after but that one time when the stars align and you get the build your after it feels sooooo good.

If embrace would have increased or infinite range as well as cast farther away from you that would make it better I think. It could also ether go through terrain or reflect off of you and other casts making like a web between multiple casts and yourself although that sounds like it could be to strong almost.

Got my second ever clear today with these icy turrets. Thought the build was pretty garbage and almost restarted, but I'm kinda glad I didn't! I didn't have cold embrace, but I did get glacial glare AND the duo boon that makes the crystals smarter and faster at targeting. I swear, this has to be the easiest (but slowest!) way to beat Hades in the game. Ran around the map picking up and redeploying my shards and just hiding behind the pillars otherwise. Was relatively easy to stay out of his way, because he was slowed almost the entire time.

I don't think that Killing Freeze or Arctic Blast become available with Glacial Glare or Frozen Touch. It's weird because both Glacial Glare and Frozen Touch cause inflict chill which should be the only requirement for Killing Freeze and Arctic Blast, but they aren't listed as options in the prerequisites. This is especially silly when you consider that the only time that Frozen Touch approaches being useful is if it is the only boon that inflicts chill and you have Arctic Blast. Maybe the prerequisite list in the codex is wrong, but I think it just doesn't work.

I think the “optimal” Pom choice for beam strength vs CC is more nuanced than you’d think For clearing rooms, upgrading CC falls off very hard because you’ll clear the room before most of the casts come close to reaching their max duration (so increasing damage is more optimal). With the Hades fight specifically though, where there are so many breaks from when you can do damage, being able to drop more beams that stick around longer will make a HUGE difference for the later sections when they stack (as you saw). Other commenters have added other nuance as well that I’ll leave to those threads. Ultimately - at that point the run is likely to succeed regardless… so might as well go CC for the satisfying ending on Hades :)

This is very unrelated and late but i recently bought the game and my 5th or 6th win against Hades was the most powerful ive ever been thanks to getting the boon from Dionysus for the lob cast, then a duo from Demeter adding a lot more damage and chill to that, then near the very end another duo for the cast from Zeus that made it strike lightning. It melted bosses and it made me feel like I was actually gooder at the game. (But of course take a loss next run because im not too good)

Artic blast essentially adds 1/10 of its damage to each beam right? So at common its +8 damage to each beam +1 for each rarity. Thats double the damage of a base common crystal beam or 8-11 poms. That said, it wouldn't benefit from cast damage buffs except global damage buffs, so numbers might not add up in practice.

I’m not sure if glacial glare applies frost with every hit... but it is hard to tell. It has always just felt a lot slower than that to me. Regardless, it’s a big boost to damage imo

You won't be offered Arctic Blast if you only have Demeter's cast and Glacial. You need another core Demeter boon.

Would Cold Embrace on Aspect of Hera (bow) be a good combo? The problem with crystal beams on Hera is that if you shoot through the enemy the beam will be behind them and firing away. But if you have Cold Embrace, then you could shoot through enemies' faces and the laser would hit them in the back.

I think i just discovered a bug with Parting shot. I'm doing a Butterfly-Hestia run currently with the first Mirror-bonus on Green. I got Parting shot and Hestias Shots now display a "Backstab" when i hit Enemys from behind. Is this allready known? And is the 35% Bonus-Damage from the Dou actully there? If it's unknown: it might be cause i got Bad News ealyer wich is also bugged in that it's Castbonusdamge is Global, thus Parting Shot got added to Bad News.

I generally consider stygian over infernal soul 90% of the time. Unless you get the hermes' legendary that returns the casts to you(but that still takes two of your Hermes boon slots), stygian is just more convenient to rely on.
