From what I could tell, you can get a Queen/King chess pieces which I think are in the 1:700+ (possibly even lower) pack odds range and also Jambalayas.

Why are they so thick?

In all honesty I am not sure why they chose such thick card stock but I guess it gives the set a more "premium" feel? In another way, it also makes it more difficult for cards to be accidentally bent/creased. One other way to look at it is, cards being this thick can be seen as mini "cavases" that each artist uses as a medium to paint their artwork which then becomes cards for collectors.
