Scared me when I saw the post but honestly I agree with your thoughts, probably was the cheap/long pellets that bit you in the ass on that one. Glad you’re back up and running, love the channel!

I had a very similar problem using Bear Mountain pellets. Luckily caught it earlier and avoided the damage, but same error. Weber customer service was great! Worked me through the issue and haven't had any issues since!

Interesting, with bear mountain!? Were the pellets long? That’s a little disconcerting.

Nice!! Make sure you don’t use pit boss pellets!

Good to see you worked through it and Weber answered the bell. I’m still rocking my gasser and Weber Charcoal Summit Kamado. I’ve been lusting the Searwood, but still a bit leery about the mechanical bits of pellet pooper.

You should be proud of yourself! The feeling of accomplishment is a great one and that's just what you did. Doing that fix yourself is awesome and thanks for taking us along throughout the fix. Those weren't pitboss pellets, those were pitboss trees lol

We are proud, thanks. That said, I hope I never have to do it again! 😂

I bought pit boss pellets for my searwood I got a month ago, and noticed some of the pellets were long, but I didn’t have any issues on my first three cooks. I most likely will not use them again so I don’t have to go through all that troubleshooting and replacement work. Thanks for the heads up, bruh.

I’ve never seen anyone say great things about pit boss pellets, and if Kirkland pellets are pit boss I agree they’re nothing to write home about, zero smoke flavour IMO

Maintenance always sucks. But it gives you a good idea of how your machine operates

You’re right about that. I know more about the searwood’s inner workings than I ever wanted to.

It was definitely those long pellets
@TBH-Grillin16 сағат бұрын
Yeah, crazy. Why would they make those?

My 600 (smaller version) was delivered today. Already got a bag of Bear Mountain Hickory and Apple pellets ready to go. All I use is Bear Mountain or Lumberjack. On another note, where did you get the light that is attached to the lid handle?

Good stuff on the bear mountain! Here’s my light: acehardware.dttq.net/c/5607677/1762913/9988?prodsku=8083950&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.acehardware.com%2Fp%2F8083950%3Fx429%3Dtrue%26Dlocally%26Daffiliate%26Daffiliate&intsrc=APIG_13695 Here’s another good one if you want to go Amazon: amzn.to/49Obf7c

Sorry for the problems you had with the Weber. Despite the length of the pellets, don’t they snap pretty easily? The Kirkland Signature pellets are just like that in terms of length and they’re apparently made by Pit Boss. From personal experience, Kirkland ones are pretty brittle and snap pretty easy. The length of the augur on the XL means there’s a lot of pellets being pushed through until they reach the burn chamber. I think it’s the same motor in the regular Searwood but it has a shorter augur to turn and less pellets to push through. Maybe the XL needs a motor with more torque.

My thoughts too were “how can this massive metal corkscrew auger not cut right through these weak pellets. However, upon breakdown of it replace the damaged parts, the auger “screw” fits almost exactly to the diameter of the tube it fits through. So I don’t think it’s cutting pellets, just pushing them. I still find it hard to believe it couldn’t push through, but this never happened until these pellets 🤷🏻♂️

Never, ever, ever use those Pit Boss pellets. I avoided them like the plague after having the only auger jam I've ever had in my previous grill - a GMG. Besides being inconsistent in size and many up to a couple inches long, the large diameter makes them much more likely to jam. Also, the flavor from these pellets just has never been there for me. Nice job on the repair. I would advise nobody use those pellets no matter how cheap they can get them.
