Hi, 2358abc - Nala has never been squeezed into...well, anything. Dean's devotion to her was incredibly evident one day last year when he pulled over into shade and FANNED Nala cause it was a hot. His comfort almost always comes second except for the very few times when himself has been injured.

To clarify & timeline of events & to clear up some confusion -Dean & Nala arrived to Spain from Italy -It was sadly at this time that Russia actually invaded Ukraine -Dean attended a Support for Ukraine -Whilst in Spain Dean saw a Doctor about his knee as it became painful -Doctor referred Dean to a Doctor in Austria (I do believe) -Dean rented a van; as the time to bike would’ve taken weeks -Due to being in a van… no wifi to upload etc -Got to Austria, saw the doctor, & Doctor gave Dean’s knee the all clear -As Russia etc (eastern Europe) was now a no-go area, meant Dean was stuck effectively -at this point Dean’s birthday (22nd March was upcoming, so he decided to return home to celebrate, rest his knee, time with family & friends, catch up on official 1Bike1World stuff, have fun & rest… and so on (you get the gist)… a break from travelling to rest, refocus & wait to see what happens now in Eastern Europe etc -it was on Dean’s birthday that Nala suddenly became ill (& as mentioned in the previous vid) (and known about if you follow on Facebook and Instagram) -Nala had to be taken to the vets about 5 times… and Dean had moments he thought he was going to lose her, especially due to foaming at the mouth -for the record: Dean feeds Nala high quality & certified food, when out on walks he’s always cautious of plants etc that could cause harm etc -after an ultrasound (shaved belly) and ensuring she got fluids in to her (as she wasn’t eating/drinking during her sickness -Vet ruled out that there was anything they could find & thankfully Nala recovered from this very expensive tummy bug… thanks Nala! (Expensive because of vets costs) -Re: the VW van, Whilst in Europe (in this timeline of events) - Dean saw a Playmobil toy VW Van, bought it & send it home -after this chain of events… about a week ago Dean saw a VW van for sale in Dunbar & decided to buy it… partly due to the playmobil one & his love of VW vans Specifically: -Dean didn’t buy this van for Nala’s health (don’t know where that idea came from… if I read the initial comment right?!) -Dean bought it as other than liking; he wanted to give his knees (and body etc) a rest from biking full time -He wants to explore places like Scotland more… like doing the NC500… a lovely route apparently for travelling around -it’s something he can use - but also he’s said his mum will probably use too when he’s away Aka back to biking around the world with Nala (naturally) -So now Dean is updating the van with general maintenance things… like those side panels (rotten wood); seal up the windows (from rain etc) Looks like he’ll add speakers in the doors at some point… since they don’t currently work as not wired in He’s added (or adding?) a bike rack to the back of the van (self explanatory) And then just creating the inside of the van to feel personal & homely etc Aka making it “his own” (As any van or motorhome or Caravan or Boat owner etc would do 😄) I hope this all helps! Dean was advised to rest from cycling for while, needs to let his knee problems improve. So it's a great coincidence how the van came to be. Just brilliant, meant to be. The bike has been upgraded, springs under Nala's basket.. Time will tell..👍❤😻❤

Fantastic videos and very entertaining,so glad that you are so good and kind to Nala.I am also Scottish but moved to Boston USA twenty years ago and took a stray cat that adopted me to Boston where he lived a great life until he died about ten years ago.I now have a black one eyed rescue cat that had a very rough start to life but he now lives in luxury and brings us much joy and happiness every day.I think that you worked in the oil industry as did I ,I worked mostly on the pipelines and also most of the various yards around our great country Scotland. True, a man could while away the hours, head under the bonnet (hood?) His own mechanic. My dad changed the engine on a pulley and chain. All computerised now, need a diagnostic computer check to change the lock etc aged 82. Liverpool. Dean always up for a challenge💌

My dad was like Dean . Built houses to put himself through college in the 1940's , a Naval officer and an engineer, he could do anything ! Change a baby's diaper, make turkey dinner from scratch, including the pumpkin pies, built a stereo system from a kit, built the cabinet and speakers , built a traditional canoe, salvaged a Rhodes Batum sailboat and rebuilt it , canned veggies ,are sauerkraut from scratch , made rag rugs , took care of injured kids and cats . Growing up on a farm he learned many skills! I said my mom got one of the "Few Good Men"! GO NAVY! ⚓⛵⚓

On the rusted spots I highly recommend Rust-oleum paint - comes in spray cans, and various colors. The vapor barrier can be easily purchased - use the one meant for windows, it works. Also use the rust-oleum on the floor panels and the bottom of the doors where the original panel rotted away. Otherwise a beautiful Type 2 you have there....(also consider getting car seat covers, as with age the originals can crack, split, and you'll lose any padding) My husband had a 68 VW Bug as his first VW, and when we got together he bought a VW Type 181 - such a beast!

Loving your new old van you guys! When I had a terrier sized dog 30 years ago, I set up a dog bed in our VW camper the same way you have here . Cat tower is awesome! I noticed Nala chewing on the pot plant. There are a lot of plants that are toxic to cats, so worth checking. Also, if she was frothing from the mouth when she was sick, it can indicate poisoning. She may have eaten something in the house or garden that was toxic to her.

There is something very comforting about travelling in a van with your nearest and dearest😻😻😻😽😽😽. It is being snug as a rug in a bag. You travel, eat and relax while watching the outside world. And you are relatively safe.
