I've been a CB operator since I was 14 years old, I'm now 34. I started off with just a little pair of 40ch handheld 3 kilometre range walkie talkies that I got for my 14th birthday on 11th February 2004. Then a year later, I was introduced to the hobby of Amateur radio, and I studied for my ham license for a while, as I like to take my time. I then passed my ham radio exam on July 21st 2012. I even subscribed to your channel. I also Have a KZbin channel as well. Keep up the great videos. 73's, and all the best from New Zealand. Alex. ZL1TAX. 👍👍

Haha yeah, I still have that radio, it’s a pain because it only work on full power, still draws like 10 amps but puts out about 8 watts so it’s been a while since I used it to be fair lol. I did get it mended though the power cable was damaged causing it to put out low power on all settings. I think it went wrong again though, can’t remember exactly but perhaps I’ll get it out and use it again. I did enjoy that radio.

Cool setup, Rube Goldberg and Frankenstein style, yet all solid state. Is there a way to patch in the battery to the charge system, or do you charge it elsewhere, hook it up, and run it down till the next charge? I did that for a base station power supply, and it was a lil work but lasted at least a week above 11 volts, and made the recieve so quiet, by not being tapped in to the world of conduit.

I could wire it up and make it charge but I don’t keep the radio in the car for long usually so I take it out when I’m finished with it and charge it up at home, then put it away until the next time. :)

the new surface board mounted digital ANYTONE brand of CB has AM, FM, SSB and WX weather channel. It is always important to have an older solid state CB radio such as a COBRA 148GTL as a backup, because the new surface mounted digital designed CB radios can be destroyed by an EMP.

Will the areil wire be ok trapped in the door and would it not make water leak in your car how would u wire the antenna wire in more permanent?
@recall2880 Жыл бұрын
Yes it would be fine and no it won’t leak. Did it many times in the 90s. Without drilling holes in the car there isn’t a permanent way
@rosscopeeco69 Жыл бұрын
Yes it will cause water ingress. Even if minimal, water will channel down the wire and through the gap created in the rubber. That is not to say that X amount of people won't have water come in but in my experience of your going to fit an antenna best do it correctly as wires hanging off the roof look naff. There is a permanent way. To mount it into the roof you'd use a 3/8" SO239 adapter / mount. Essentially drill through, treat with anti rust paint and a plastic washer to prevent leaks etc. Or use a 3/8" side pillar mount which you'll get from thunderpole or Amazon. You can then track the coaxial down the roof lining/ pillars and make a neat hidden job of it.
