I ran short tube headers on my C5 for a couple years - I was told that long tube headers would be better for a quicker response. I'll freaking swear by my long tube headers and the straight pipe set up I have now. Performance, launch and overall fuel mileage is outstanding !!! Not to mention the SOUND !!! We (our corvette club ) does every parade within our two cities and I get Major Thumbs Up 👍 and Cheers from the crowds when I wrap the pipes up !! No one comes close to the pure sound of 560HP at 5000rpm. Have fun - keep tinkering !!!

That has to be by far, the most entertaining video you’ve done. All the friends laughing, the comments, and the “positions” you all were in 🤪 just made it a blast to watch. Well edited and the content was very informative. My Vert has a Corsa x-pipe on it and have been toying with a header install. I loved this video 👍🏻👍🏻 (that’s 2 thumbs up by the way) 🤣. Hope to meet up next spring/summer when I’m at the lake. Keep up the good work.

Awesome video!! Installing header's and an exhaust in your garage is a big job. I've installed a few exhausts and sets of header's over the years and I would recommend that you install a set of locking header bolts and not reuse the factory bolts. I'd also install a heat cover over the spark plug wires with the new header's. The only other thing that I would do differently is to add a set of high performance mufflers to help with back pressure. I've always seemed to lose power on my cars when I've tried to run a straight exhaust. It probably wouldn't hurt to Dyno the car with and without mufflers to see if it makes a difference. If you go with mufflers I would highly suggest a Borla S-Type system. It makes good power, isn't overly loud at idle and part throttle and has a fantastic exhaust note at wide open throttle. It's not overly loud but it's an aggressive, civilized exhaust note with a distinct sound. I was sold on Borla exhaust systems 20+ years ago when the guys that I knew who drove Vipers in the Vettes, Vipers & F-Body club wouldn't use any other exhaust on their Viper's except a Borla because of the exhaust note that it made. The older Viper's had a pretty bad sounding exhaust note from the factory (similar to a milk truck exhaust note) and the Viper owners I knew were fairly sensitive about this.

Nice work! I enjoyed this video as well. I am, and have been, sort of up in the air regarding what headers to get for my '97. You already heavily steered me in the direction as far as exhaust goes- mine has a Billy Boat set up that sounds okay and looks cool, but that SLP is exactly the sound that I want, so I'll be looking at this particular brand. Did get black C6 Z06 wheels for what I thought was a good deal mounted up recently and just before it got "cold", I splurged on Z51 shocks and Steinjager front and rear sways as well as endlinks. Glad I did because I found out that a shock was blown and a link was busted- the car was all over the place when driving on uneven surfaces. Almost scary in a sense. So, finances willing, cold air, headers, exhaust and new tires next year! It's nice being able to watch other enthusiasts who document their upgrades via KZbin. I talk about my car here because nobody else, save for a few friends, really knows or cares about what I am doing to my Corvette. Keep rocking the vids, man! 👍👍

I am not sure if they are still around but when I had my C5, I used FLP headers and system. They had a section where you could install their high flow cats, or a straight pipe. I used to put the cats in for inspection and take them out for track days. It took about 10 minutes to do. I love that you try these things on your own. I am the same way. I can't wait to see you rebuild that LS1 when the time comes. ;)

The air system will be turned off in hptuners when you tune it, it's just a checkbox, then removing the excess when you have the intake off whenever that is (also replace the oil pressure switch when intake is off). After seeing this i'm glad I got the Texas Speed headers, they were just bolt on, included the pipes you had to cut off and reuse, o2 extensions, gaskets etc. The short pipes on the back that goes under the trans are great location for cutouts as well, and just mark them, unbolt that short section, etc.

Here's my two cents of advice having done a lot of headers in the past 50 years in driveways and garages on many different sports cars. Number one get at least a basic repair manual like a Haynes and read the parts relating to removing exhaust manifolds and exhaust systems before you start so that you don't have to be guessing about basic things like how many oxygen sensors there are and where they're located. Number two get that car much higher off the ground. Number three buy a lot of WD-40 with the snake around and point metal nozzles and soak every fastener a week. And my recent addition to what needs to be done is to watch every KZbin video that exists about doing the job you were going to do with a critical eye and picking out the best tips from each one.

No cats and no mufflers. Any issues with state inspections? Deleting the rear 02 sensors require programming out the MIL. They are to tell how the cats are working. The front O2's are the important ones for the car to learn air/fuel mixture.
