One rainy year the Marshaller waived me across a grass drainage with 3-4” of water in the deepest part of the drainage. I shook my head NO and he wildly waved me forward. I held my position, the marshaller was pissed but I held my ground. I shut down the engine thereby stopping the conga line behind. Finally some kind of supervisor showed up. That’s where we all discovered the marshaller was NOT supposed to bring any aircraft through that flooded area, apparently he got confused about what location he was to be at! There was no possible way I was taking my T210 through a swamp!

Awesome video. I didn't make it this year to OSH but I have been there twice (2013 and '18). Both times I joined a Cessna mass arrival. Now that we sold the R182 and now have a Piper Turbo Arrow III we might do it again but with a Piper group. Lots of fun camping on the field meeting pilots from all over the place.

My year 1999 Bush Pilot CFI showed me to use about 15 to 20 degrees of flaps on soft field taxiing. It is called Taxi Flaps. They could make some lift and save you from a prop nick or getting stuck like that. He told that to The Missionary Pilot 2 years ago and others in youtube and now is getting popular. After 20 years plus he taught that to me. EmergencyLowManeuvering channel he has. He also taught EFATO 5 Maneuvers.. and more..
@KerryDMcCauley3 ай бұрын
I never heard of that but I'll give it a try. I fly off a grass strip every day so I'll be able to test it soon. I can tell you it doesn't make much difference on a Caravan because I put in 20 degrees mid taxi all the time and never noticed a difference. Could be because I'm wasn't looking for it.

@@KerryDMcCauley After overnight parking with tires a bit into the ground due soft ground, put enough power to almost move, but dont. Pop flaps to 20 and see it coming out of the tire wholes and moving with out having to put extra rpm. I showed that to many Bush Pilots candidates when CFI. My 1999 CFI called them Lift Flaps if 20 degree or under. Drag Flaps if over 20. Many dont get it. Call all flaps as drag. But with power, they are lift if under 20 on most non jet airplanes..

While flying jumpers I had one tank run dry while using fuel boost on the Be 80 running IGSO-540-A1A. Everyone exited at 8 grand (normal engine indications) while the left prop feathered. A faulty fuel pump caused all 17 gallons of fuel sent to port. Switching to crossfeed would have been a disaster. Watch those fuel guages is all I can offer.

PITA.. AA short while ago I taxi'd my light sport into a grassy area and got stuck. What surprised me was how small the little indent was that stopped the plane. I learned the smallest indent in grass or dirt can stop my plane cold. After a lot of rocking back and forth by hand I finally got it out. It was a good thing because I was a long way from any help.

@@KerryDMcCauley I know why did you let them drive you in a ditch? Hummm. Ha ha. Carbon cub no issue. Typical trike gear plane single or twin, prop clearance is nil and requires FLAT ground. Not to mention scooter guy getting way to close to my prop. Yes they do a great job blah blah blah, but it only takes one to drive you in a ditch and cost you $40K for a prop and engine tear down.
