I was at a guitar shop in Oslo once, and they had a 12 string acoustic where 6 of the strings were a regular nylon set, but the second set of strings were sitar strings and whatever they did to mod it also made them sound similar to a sitar

2:20 Some of the Strings aren't necessarily in the Right Octave because they felt too loose while tuning up. So the 2 Lowest strings are tuned an Octave Higher. And that C#5 string which starts much closer to the bridge on the Sitar, I knew I wouldn't be able to get that high so I just matched its neighbors octave.

This is super interesting. Some of the clean stuff you were playing reminded me of what I've heard on a vietnamese guitar. I think they're tuned normally but they have a super scalloped fretboard, moreso than what you'd see on a western guitar.

A six string with an added string between the B and high E string would be closer to the way a Sitar plays.

Perhaps adding small strips of plastic picks to lightly rest against the strings to simulate the buzz bridge and it might sound like a sitar guitar.

I’m surprised this actually worked! Who knew? However, now I’m wondering about the scale length. It seems the sitar is pretty long. This might make all the difference? I would think the correct tension on the strings would be important. Also, I think this is kinda what I like about a 12-string. That chimey sound is used in a lot of 1960’s songs. There was an electric sitar guitar made by Dan electro but it really doesn’t sound right. So maybe a baritone version? will be better?

would love to see you try to DIY an electric sitar bridge, a really annoying thing to try and get hold of (the danelectro fixed bridges suck, the EYBs are impossible to find, and the gotohs have weird spacing and machining issues)
