I Put The Wrong Transmission Fluid in my Cummins!?!............Here's why!

ATF manufacturers suggest that for every 20oF. increase in operating temperature above 175oF., the life of the fluid is cut in half. Hence at 195oF., oil life will be about 50,000 miles. Above 240oF., it becomes nil. Without adequate cooling, the heavy duty use of wildland fire engines will likely push the ATF operating temperature very high. So I use 95w-125w with 2oz of slip lock in my 4500 transplanted into my jeep. The slip lock makes the shift shafts super slippery and does wonders for shifting in cold winter weather. I know the 4500 don't have same bearings as gl56 but roller bearings create more heat and take longer to cool because more metal. The gl56 is great trans but could use some cooling features on the case. Do keep in mind German cars are designed to last only so many years before being crushed and recycled. It's not like America were average aged of vehicle is 11 years.

Amsoil 75-90 MTG here for 70K. On a drain the fluid looks like new with a small amount of fine shavings.

Reasons to use atf in a manual. Bearings ball vs roller. A ball bearing will push debris to either side meaning heavy unpure oils can be used. A roller bearing usually has to roll over debris so having fluid that don't support large particles is key. A roller bearing makes more contact on shaft than ball bearing. A ball bearing cuts grooves where the balls run on edges. Roller bearings generally have tighter tolerances because more surface contact on shafts. Roller bearings produce more heat because more contact. Also windage on the oils. Every go to auto parts store and see the lucas oil stabilizer see through gear display. Watch how much oil is moved up the gears. Today's fluids don't need to do that. By increasing the windage that means more weight to move and unequal forces. Meaning you want adhesive oil but not cohesive. So it sticks to parts but not to itself. Being a heavy duty trans long life should be a top factor. Climate and terrain should be considered too.

I drive a BMW Z3 with a 5 speed manual. The gearbox only works fine with ATF (I tested it also with LM w75 GL4/5).

Hello everyone ! My mechanic put wrong oil trasmission on my c300 2012 . He put red one 236.14 But the car need 236.15 blue one. I have made 14k km , what should i do . Could i have problem if i change now with blue one or should i keep red one

Don't the gear oils cause issues with the synchros being they are brass.

Wrong, GL-4 gear oils are meant for brass synchronizers.

Technically Amsoil says to use ATF. 75w and even 50w is honestly too thick of an oil especially in cold temps below 40. either oil would be great to use, but all in all it depends on where you live. also heavier oil and over-filling like stated in the video, is a recipe for elevated transmission temperatures.
