put bill russel in the modern era and have wilt in the same era so they can fight against each other and see who can win the championship 1st
@davidblair1402 ай бұрын
Bill Russell wa quite weak on offense and if he did not have so much support from other hall of famers, he would not have won anywhere near 11 championships.
@lancethedragonmaster8562Ай бұрын
@@davidblair140 bill russell is easily the greatest defender ever. The celts werent great before he was drafted, 5 mvps for a defensive specialist in an era with jerry west, oscar robertson, and wilt is nuts. Remember the players voted for MVP in the 60s. In 1962 bill won mvp over wilts 50 ppg avg and oscars triple double avg. Without bill russell then wilt absolutely throttles the 60s. Bill could translate to any era dont get it twisted.

@@gojirasm Wilt is on my Mount Rushmore. Personally I got Kobe, Jordan, Wilt, and Magic. Not my goat list but favorite players. Additionally, my stance on the goat debate is unique. About every 10 or so years the game of basketball evolves. It’s a very fluid game and it’s hard to rank guys who have played different versions of basketball. So I would say there’s a goat of every decade, or every 10ish years. 50s Mikan. No real contest 60s Wilt > Russell. Rule changes, 100 points, career rebound leader still and career scorer at time of retirement 70s Kareem. Again no real contest. 80s Magic > Bird. I think Magic had a bigger impact on the overall game and culture of basketball. Personally, he was also a better facilitator than bird was a scorer, though I say it’s very close. 90s Jordan. Only other real argument is Hakeem but, still not that close. 00s Kobe > Duncan. Three peat. Impact. 81 point game. Outscored the mavericks. Though I think you could argue for Duncan here. 10s LeBron. Curry too has a point, though there’s a lack of finals MVPs compared to LeBron, and curry didn’t get a finals mvp that decade. There’s no other real argument, just chasing Jordan at that point. 20s Well, that has yet to be seen, but I imagine that one of Luka, Giannis or Tatum will likely have success in the 20s, enough to cement themselves as that decade’s best. Guys like Shaq, Duncan, Curry, Hakeem, Russell, KD, Bird, Dr J, etc. are all just one (very close) tier below those top guys. Sorry for the rambling, I got a lil excited

@@protozoanpro Valid. People trying to get one GOAT. If it's not Jordan or Lebron, your opinion is invalid. No nuance in thought. I believe Wilt is up there. People get 60s basketball facts wrong. They adore Bill Russell for the rings, saying he's a winner, while in the same breath disregard Wilt cause he was "playing 5'4 white unathletic plumbers", which is just a straight up lie. One Google search will tell you the average height of NBA players has barely changed from 60s to now, which is 6'8. Also, if you disregard Wilt cause he played bozos and losers, then you also have to disregard Bill, cause he won against bozos and losers, which is not an achievement. Just casual NBA cognitive dissonance. So based opinion. Recognize greatness with nuance, not hivemind group think.

Giving wilt a D+ in Mid Range is criminal. 60% of his shots came from the mid-range through hooks, fades and jumpers. The rest were layups, finger rolls and of course, dunks. Not only that, we would lead the NBA in scoring and in FG%, and if not, he was very close to it.
@lotuslife32392 ай бұрын
He was also like 310 moving at Lebron speed. In my 2k I gave him MJ ft line dunk package, dribble moves like Giannis and even a 1 handed fadeaway 3 for modern times cause he would definitely learn to shoot 3s if he grew up this era. He was too strong to shoot normally and he refused to shoot fts like Rick Barry so everyone thinks he cant shoot but he was cash with those fadeaways and mastered the bank shot like Duncan. Shame they treated him like a monster if he came into the league at 18 like Kareem instead of 23 he might have gotten the chance to play with West and Baylor in their primes when those 2 were almost beating the Celtics too. All 3 in their prime they take half of Russell's rings, but then no MJ or anyone else comes close with his individual records. His politics and social ideals made it impossible for him to have a supreme sneaker wearing fanbase in an era where the league didnt get much exposure.
@angelvollant8642 ай бұрын
@@lotuslife3239 True to all that. Especially the West and Baylor stuff. Ironically enough, had he played with those amazing players (instead of going mostly on a lone run in his career), he would probably be higher in the people's rankings. But because he didn't, and had to (or at least thought he had to) get otherworldly statlines to keep up with the competition. Man I wish people would watch some footage and documentaries. Takes an hour, maybe 2 to get a solid grasp of Wilt. Take the grand stories with a grain of salt, but the recorded ones at face value. Could he pick up a quarter from the top of the backboard? Maybe, maybe not. Could he touch the top of the backboard? Almost definitely. Look up "Akobundu-Ehiogu backboard" just for fun. Did he win track and field? Yes. Did he win jumping contests? Yes. Did he get 50 points? He averaged it. For a whole season. 40 was a bad night for him. I know current NBA fans clown people who like Wilt's game. You're either a oldhead, or a kid who only looks at stats. Look at the goddamn footage for god's sake. He blocked Kareem twice. Not in his whole career. In one clip. Mind you, it wasn't in his prime, but at the twilight of his career. Kareem's lucky Wilt only had him for 4 years, and the league didn't record block and steals until literally the year Wilt retired. Wilt retired in the 1972-1973 season. NBA started recording defensive stats in the 1973-1974 season. Of course he couldn't have all the records. Had to keep some stats in reserve for when he retires. Case in point, he's 7'2 Giannis with a jumpshot and the stamina to average 47 minutes a game, despite the high pace (which people always state as the reason his stats are inflated, without even realizing the fact he averaged over 40+ minutes a game as impressive)

Wilt even in his era was labeled a notorious playoff choker unfairly, because he was against a super stacked Celtics team. Also, your growth is similar to mine I went from 5’6” on my 15th birthday to 5’11” on my 16th on my way to my final height of 6’4”.

@@danny2ksimulationsyea those Celtics were stacked AF. It’s interesting growing taller past classmates who used to be quite a bit taller than you isn’t it. Also, not surprised Wilt made All-NBA at 39, dude stayed in insane shape most of his life he was benching 465 at the age of 59, and the NBA was begging him to come back for a season in 1986 when he was 50! They weren’t doing that with Jordan and Karl Malone in 2013. Also the career parallels between Wilt and LeBron are insane when you track their journies from High School throughout their NBA careers, obviously you couldn’t draft someone straight out of HS in the 50s you had to wait for them to complete college at the time.

Nah. 3 point shooters are dime a dozen in the current nba, Wilt actually has the rarer skill set here. Just surround him with 4 shooters, he easily picks up any kind of defensive and rebounding slack. He’d be a stronger more mobile Gobert. Not sure what he’d be on offense though, offense from that era always looks whack. Wilt would for sure develop better skills if he grew up in the 2000’s/2010’s
