I did mobile detailing 35 years ago. It was hot AF in Northern California. Now that I am old, there is no way I’d do that again. I enjoy my air conditioning and a lift in my own shop at home. I only do high end detailing now at my own pace.

I work out of a Hyundai Elantra.. I fit an a frame sign & a canopy,, no excuses. Get a mobile unit

My suggestion is starting back mobile and contracting work. It’s still a huge market and missed out money. Make a different r3 GMB page for mobile.

Did you ever find yourself thinking about finding an extra person just to do the mobile jobs for you? Either contract employee, commission, lease the setup, etc.

did you ever think about hiring a team to run the van, so you keep the mobile side of the business
@detailingbusinessclasspodcast4 ай бұрын
We've gone through that before. We had a mobile crew that handled all mobile work. This time we went decided not to go that route and focus our efforts at the shop

I feel like mobile detailing is dead. I did it back in 2019 and I had mild success, but now, it’s extremely over saturated and every person with a vacuum is a “detailer”. Between the cost of gas,equipment and time to drive it ain’t worth it to make 25$ an hour.especially if you get a car that is a disaster and the customer expects that it will be brand new when your done. It’s just not worth it
@renogunzddragon19004 ай бұрын
Of course it is not worth it for only 25$ 😂 ..its never worth it if you put your price that low,you only get cheapskate customers that way.
@jay.da.luna.4 ай бұрын
We make $100 a hour/$50 at least for each person. Not dead, if anything getting more popular.

I'm a black male detailing business owner. Been detailing for 16 years now. I work out my garage and refuse to work outside. I use to be booked 3 weeks in advance until the economy got tough.. I had a lot of dealerships business but some went out of business. Since Ive been getting a lot of Africans people personal cars to clean it's been a nightmare dealing with them. Ive never seen people as terrible to deal with as these people. Every last one of them try to talk you down on price. All of them want you to take them home and pick them up while their wife sit at home. I don't do it. I have to make them pay up front in advance. A lot of times I don't answer their calls.'

Did the van itself work as advertising and bring in jobs ? Like random people just seeing the van and calling you
@detailingbusinessclasspodcast4 ай бұрын
we never wrapped the van because I didn't want to rely on that. It was to prove a point that you don't need to do that. So for us, no, it did not. We focused on building marketing systems that produce predictable results. But it is great for branding and professionalism!

@@detailingbusinessclasspodcast just saying no way you guys paid a large rent bill to slowly progress towards shop work only. Wouldn’t be smart to be paying a lot of money for non used space. I can’t see y’all doing that.

@@traviscrown9189 that's why Monday morning quarterback is a thing 😅. What took us a year to transition from mobile to shop we could do now in 3 months now that we know what we're doing. When you're in the day-to-day operations, you forget to take a step back and look at the bigger picture
