Just quit my job today, realized 2 years out of college and 3 jobs in 3 different industries that engineering just isn’t the right path for me. Going after my dream of being a videographer EDIT: ONE YEAR UPDATE (June 2022) Wow, I didn’t realize how much attention this comment would get. Almost forgot I even made it entirely. After a couple freelance jobs here and there in the coming months, my portfolio was adequate enough to catch some eyes and land me a full-time job as an in-house videographer at a non-profit near Philadelphia. I film and edit everything from event recaps (5Ks, golf tournaments, lacrosse tournaments, banquets) to narrative/documentary-type pieces on the families we support and our top fundraising players. In two weeks I’m filming a highlight reel for a football camp run by 3 current and former Philadelphia Eagles players, an absolute dream. I never imagined a year ago I’d be working with professional athletes and I’ve just recently took a step back to reflect on how far I’ve come in a short time. I don’t make as much (yet?) as I was making in the engineering field but honestly that’s rarely crossed my mind as my quality of life and purpose has been that much more fulfilling, and it’s a joy to see the impact on the people I’ve helped along the way by spreading awareness of my organization through my videos. It’s been a surreal experience so far, and thank you everyone for the supportive comments! If you feel stuck, there’s always a way out as long as you invest time and energy in yourself!

Guys start applying for jobs you don’t think you’ll get. I was working for an insurance company and absolutely hated it. I was so burnt out I remember one time after a call going to my car calling my mom and crying. She said to just quit. It’s not worth it to be so unhappy. I’ve always wanted to travel and wondered how I could do it for a living. I applied to be a flight attendant not thinking I’d get it. It was kinda just to say that I applied but I really didn’t think I’d hear back. Fast forward like to now I’ve been a flight attendant for six years. It’s not the perfect job and there are still times that I feel burnt out. But I never take work home with me. I don’t have a supervisor breathing down my neck. And I get paid. To. Travel. Literally all I’ve wanted to do and I’m getting paid for it. So please just apply for a job you want even though if you don’t think you can. You’re not gonna get in trouble. No one else is gonna find out , as long as you don’t tell them. The worse that can happen is they say no. The best that can happen is that it will change your life.

I love this! I'm going to take your advice. In my case I was working for a monopoly company that sold sucky internet and cable tv and we were tech support for these constantly angry and frustrated customers. For 2 and a half years we dealt with sometimes taking over a hundred calls due to recurrent outages and services issues (due to the sucky overpriced service) and I was completely burnt out and constantly complained & talked about leaving and doing something I actually believed in. Fast forward to this past Monday. They pack about 10 of us into a room to let us go in order to cut costs! Seriously???!!! All that time I could've been creating my OWN destiny or exploring my passions instead of being miserable for all those months just for them to tell me they no longer need me. Disgusting! And one of my coworkers who was also let go, sent me this video. So glad he did! Now I've got my motivation to finally do what I enjoy instead of what corporate America says I'm "qualified" to do! Thank you Chimdi and all of you for sharing your inspirational testimonies! God will provide & that's the ONLY THING I Know for SURE right now! ☺️🤞🏾

Going out on a Monday or Tuesday and only working just to enjoy their lives. I quit my job during Covid too after being in that office for 10 years! It’s unfortunate that it took Covid shutdown to open my eyes. I mean, I always knew I wasn’t happy there. I use to cry most days on my way to work or complain to my mom every morning. When they called us back to the office to start seeing people again, I went into extreme anxiety attacks and panic attacks. I dragged myself in to my first day back sweating all the way to the office, to have my then boss yell at me literally: “you don’t look like you want to be here and I don’t want you here if that’s the case! Get out!!” That’s when I knew I was done. I quit without another thought and my anxiety went away. It’s been almost a year now and I’m still self healing. Thank you for this video. @Choochoo choo I worked full-time for more than 43 years to get to this point. I retired in 2017 so am now able to live off my investments, my retirement fund, and social security. I did do some free-lance work in 2020, but thankfully don't really need to work for pay anymore. All of my adult life I did whatever was necessary to educate myself and develop skills in fields that were of interest to me. Additionally, I always lived below my means by living in an older home; driving an old, but reliable car; rarely dining out; not taking extravagant vacations; socking away every penny I could (tax returns, gifts, bonuses, etc.) into my retirement fund; purchasing clothes and accessories second-hand; ditching cable 15 years ago. If you work at what you love the money will follow; how you choose to spend it will either help or hinder your progress of reaching your goal(s).

I am so incredibly happy I came across this video. I quit my previous job in late 2020. I saw the true colours of my bosses during COVID and it completely changed my perspective on MYSELF and the work ENVIRONMENT. I was still young, I was still growing, I listened to them and did whatever they wanted me to do, even though I would be exhausted from doing so. When COVID, hit, I truly found myself, I found my self-worth, I found my self- love, I knew what I wanted and what I deserved. So I quit. No notice, nothing. I sent a text message saying I quit. Fast forward to today, I found a job where my team and I are like family, we go to lunches and dinners together, we look out for each other, we work hard together and work doesn’t even feel like work. I love this video so much because I relate so much to it and I hope more and more people take matters into their own hands and quit jobs that are so toxic for them!!

I first came across this video 2 years ago while job searching after leaving a job without having another lined up. At that time, I had realized that the field I thought I wanted to be in was NOT for me, but I had no idea what I wanted to do next. It took a year of recovery and exploration before I figured out what I want to do and took a job that is a stepping stone toward that dream. Now, I am about to quit that job, 1.5 years in. There’s a lot of overlap with what I want to do, but the significant aspects of the job that aren’t for me are killing me (almost literally.) I finally had an epiphany and said, I’ve learned good skills here. I can pursue further professional development and keep working toward my goal. And I have savings. I can’t keep doing this to myself. Even so, I started having doubts this morning, so I came back to this video. And gosh, I relate to so much of it. I’ve only been at this one for months and it’s such a much better company but my heart isn’t in this at all and I feel unfulfilled. I’m zoned out most of the time and not doing my best work. I feel bad because they are a better company and I don’t want to leave my new colleagues hanging but I don’t want this industry anymore. Smh. I have been praying a lot and saying the affirmation, “I am strong enough to follow through.” over and over again but I am still struggling. You are inspirational!

Miss C!!! I am sending you love. It was a HUGE deal that you left that toxic company after 13 years. Did you give yourself any time to rest and reflect before starting the new role? I think your experience is perfectly reflecting why honoring our truth is everyone's best interest. You're not doing work you want and so what you're creating doesn't meet your own standard. And at the same time, they're not getting the best work possible and someone who might actually enjoy that role and perform really well is being kept from doing it. You ARE strong enough to follow through, and and you WILL. In the meantime, give yourself grace, you've been through a lot already ❤️

I just quit my 6 figure engineer “dream job” yesterday. After 4+ years of grinding through a PhD program, getting the ideal+stable industry position, switching to a new role at the company thinking things would get better I finally mustered up the courage to be truthful with myself that this just wasn’t working for me. I was one of the top performers and every boss loved me (plus my parents were so so proud of me), and I think that’s what kept me going so long. During this pandemic I grew closer to my faith and Jesus and I feel he’s being asking me to radically trust in him and live a life aligned to my values. At the same time, my fiancé left his engineering 9-5, started his own business and I can see how happy and free he is + he’s making great money which takes this immense pressure off me. For so long I was “living to work” that I denied myself so much rest. I cannot wait to just rest, trust in God, and live my life!! Thank you so much for sharing this video!

I also quit my job when Covid happened. I made it 33 months without a job/steady income and it was wonderful. Unfortunately that didn’t last as I just was surviving on money I had made previously and only had a certain amount to work with so I am back to work and have started two separate less than ideal jobs to make ends meet. It’s alright for now as I continue to work on my own goals but definitely feels like a temporary situation to help speed things up a little bit financially. Hope everything is going well for you after quitting something that no longer resonated with you.

I am delighted that I stumbled upon your video. I am a UX Designer, located in Greece, working remotely. However, it seems like some organizations switched to remote working after the pandemic because it is easier to ask your employees to work more since "you are at home... You don't need to commute to the office, so you can start earlier, or you can stay longer..." So, after several difficult experiences with extra hours of unpaid work in toxic environments, and myself getting really sick because of all of these situations, I am almost there to give up my 9-5 (which is never 5) job... I say almost because I need to find ways to have an income since I may not have a monthly rent to cover but I have bills, I have a mortgage as most people have, and life has been sooooo expensive lately! Thank you for your inspirational video 🙏
