I honestly don't see you as a phony. What I do see is that your skills at programming have provided you the funds necessary to be able to have the option to quit your day job, travel the world with your family and start working on your own projects without having to really worry about money issues, and to me, that is the true American Dream. You always provide us (your viewers) great advice on becoming programmers/coders! I'm sincerely happy for you and your family and hope y'all have a great time! Can't wait to see your projects and dreams come to fruition!

Congrats. I will be moving abroad as well. Already sold off my home in Austin, extra vehicles, etc. I got a second citizenship and intend to renounce my US one so that is my primary reason. That said, the happiest Americans I have met the last few years were all living abroad. I got tired of seeing it and decided to do it myself.

Dude, you and my best friend (who's a senior front end dev) are my main inspirations when it comes to coding, so honestly, whatever you do, I'll be with you. Doesn't matter if you do travel vlogs (which I personally love watching) or motivational videos, I'll be watching your content and supporting you, because I kinda feel like you're that experienced older brother I never had and I owe you a lot for keeping me motivated, telling me where and what to study to become a dev and, unlike the vast majority of tech KZbinrs, for always telling me the cold and harsh truth about working at the tech industry. That said, go on, follow your dreams. I hope I'll be able to make enough cash in the next years to do exactly what you're about to do: travel the world. Greetings from Brazil. Edit: forgot to say I'm buying your merch as soon as I get my first job, which hopefully will happen by the end of 2022.

I've always found programming an extremely creative endeavour, but I'm sure there are jobs where you get relegated to being just a cog in a big machine, spitting out code on demand. That's one reason I prefer companies with IT-departments of no more than a dozen people or so and even better, those who will let me work alone. The sector also makes a big difference and it's not easy to tell which will be most interesting. I've worked as a programmer in the computer games industry, several times in telecommunications, in finance and in logistics. I liked them all, though the job in finance considerably less so. Would you have guessed that logistics turned out to be the most fun? I would never have guessed it; I changed to logistics simply because I was sick of the long communte I had previously. It helps too, of course, that by now I have considerably say in how things are done, having 25 years of experience and a proven track record.

I am super happy for you bro! I wish you the best and thank you for the content that you provide. I'm 44 years old and I am stuck in a dead-end job just to pay the bills. I've raised 2 kids and my 26 y/o daughter just recently purchased a $400k home all on her own. I was so proud of her that I cried. To put my tears into perspective, I'm from a small town called East St. Louis, IL. If you've heard of the place, you already know that it's the ghetto, so to be able to raise successful children has been my main focus in life. I wanted a better life for them, and now they have it. Which leaves me wondering if its too late for me to start something new to improve my own situation. If you do decide to mentor, I (I know it's a long shot in the dark) can't put into words how much it would mean to me, if you could take me under your wing. Again, thank you for your content and many blessings to you and your family.

Great Info! Working a job is no one’s dream/life goal. But the reality is when you are broke you need a way to make enough money to have the option to pursue different creative endeavors. Coding and Sales are two of the rare fields where it just takes the knowledge, application and effort to succeed as opposed to a college degree and years of slowly moving up the ladder.

I bought the resume and cover letter bundle to support the channel. However, I was hoping the letter had something besides the "lorem ipsum" text. I speak for myself, but I believe most people don't know what to write in a cover letter and the ones that do, don't know how to phrase it. I can tell you about my development experience, but not in a "businessy" kind of way. I understand there is a difference between a template and a sample and I made the purchase with that understanding in mind. Anyway, great content as usual and good luck in your future endeavors!!

Dude, you're great. Don't feel like a fraud at all. You made it. Go travel, live life. Keep doing that until you feel the itch to focus on work again. Come back and find new avenues for your creativity. Start a business, start a PhD, spend more time doing things outside of coding, etc. I'm actually really excited for you! Excited to see what you come up with, how your life goes. I appreciate your content. Good luck, man!

Good luck on all of this! Totally feel this myself. That scene from Office Space was perfect. I need to figure this out for myself. Confused why you ended saying that being a KZbinr is the most depressing thing you've said all day though?

Do you still train jiu-jitsu? I do. Videos about your jiu-jitsu journey would be cool.
