Jarvis, hoping this doesn't get lost in all the comments. Lost my mom earlier last year to a heart attack. I was there when it happened, but couldn't get to her until she was already gone. Losing someone so close to you is definitely one of the hardest things you can go through. Please, please don't feel bad about not being home when it happened. A stroke, like a heart attack is not a pretty thing. That image will always be seared into my head, and it's difficult to push past that image to see the beautiful woman my mother really was. Especially as a young kid who is not mentally prepared whatsoever for a situation like that, please don't feel any regrets. One of the few things that has kept me going on rough days is that the situation was out of my control. I did what I possibly could have to save my mother, but it wasn't meant to be. Hold on to those good memories, don't beat yourself up for the things you may have done wrong to her.

If your mother loved you even half as much as I love my kid, you were truly adored beyond belief. She'd be proud of you encouraging someone else with your painful experience. It was, indeed, out of your control and I hope you can always believe that and derive strength from those good memories. Sending you a mom hug, sweet Ryan.

Hi Jarvis, First you are absolutely amazing there are not many KZbinrs that share so much of themselves with their fans. I think you and your channel are important for a few reasons I think that there a lot of kids out there who have anxieties and fears but have no idea how to deal with them and it is important for them to see that they are not alone. When I decided to pursue a career as a Software Engineer after 20 years in the Army, one of my Soldiers suggested your videos and ever since I always remember the words from your Japan video on perspective and when I get discouraged I look at my life from above to see how far I have come. I now work for as Javascript Developer in Boston and honestly it all started with me watching your videos. Thank you Jarvis, good luck and I will be here when you celebrate 1 million subscribers.

Wow, I never comment on videos. I normally just watch the hilarious arguments in the comment section. But I am truly inspired by what you're doing +Jarvis Johnson. I agree completely with the idea that we always think life has a certain direction, and a lot of that comes from external pressure to stay on the beaten path. I have always felt like whenever I watch your videos its like having a convo with a great friend and this video made me feel that even more so. Its funny that I first subscribed to your channel because I wanted to know what its like in the tech industry, but watching your videos have more been like we're in the same coming of age story where I learn more about myself whenever you do. You did a really good job cleaning, I bet your mom would be/is mega proud :) It’s crazy because my grandma passed in April of 2016 and today I’ve been thinking about her a lot for some reason. I’ve blocked everything out and just completely forgot she existed at any point in time despite her living with us for basically my entire life. She had chronic COPD and I don’t think I’ve ever seen her without her oxygen tank, but 16 year old me didn’t realize that she was dying. She passed sorta out of the blue. On April 21, 2016 she was rushed to the hospital after vomiting a weird green color even though the paramedics told her it was just the flu that was going around. I told her to go to the hospital anyway because I’ve never seen that happen like what??? So she did and i didn’t know that that moment would be the last time she left the house. I was SO used to her going to the hospital all the time and coming back afterwards. I only saw her awake once after that when we got to the ER and they were talking about her having bronchitis or something. After leaving, they put her into a medical induced coma and that was that. They couldn’t get her back out of it and I went to the hospital every day as soon as guest hours were open for a week. She passed on April 28, 2016 and I never did say bye. I just sat in the lobby, doing a crossword puzzle that I found in her room while everyone stood by her side and took her off of life support. Man does it hurt so much to think about the way I treated her. I hate that I was all “if I knew she was dying then I would’ve treated her better” instead of just treating her like a human being. It kills me that she had no friends and she just sat in her room watching TV all day, like I just wish I talked to her about ANYTHING. Not hearing the TV on 100 throughout the entire house kinda sucks now. I didn’t mean to write so much but it happened, sorry to whoever reads

Kudos on putting your experience online! I’ve had Fibromyalgia since I was 12, and I have Lupus as well. My Dad swirled fields and became a pain management doctor because my Mom and I were sick and he wanted to better understand it and be a safe place for patients that had been treated largely with suspicion and a general lack of empathy. I also worked with him for a while. So I’ve pondered making videos for a while, both on FM and chronic pain in general, tips and tricks to deal based on different kinds of pain and, and ways to maybe get doctors to understand exactly what’s up more easily. But part of me thinks it’d kind of be shouting into the wind; it doesn’t seem like a lot of people care, or most other people who are sick see I’m young and assume I’m a newly diagnosed person spouting off about stuff I don’t really know. And now my Mom’s been diagnosed with late stage cancer. In a way, posting may be cathartic. And she’s wanted me to do it. But like.... there’s no way I could put too much time in it because no one’s going to ever in a million years want their brand associated with pain and illness and medication and new laws, even if somehow I got a following. It’s really cool to see someone being less... skittish and just going ahead and doing it. I really hope it works well; the more people are exposed to various illness and disease processes, the less we seem alien. Even just seeing what stars having these things has done for the cause. People went from “Fibromyalgia? Is that even real? I wish MY dad was a doctor so I didn’t have to go to school,” to “Oh my godddddd that’s what Lady Gaga has, you poor thing!” (Still not ideal, but better than scorn.) Videos can also be a way for someone with a loved one who’s ill can find out more information and figure out how to be supportive without feeling they’re making their loved one feel weird or bad about it. So hang in there, and keep fighting the good fight!

I lost my dad at 13 to cancer and honestly it’s so hard to get over it. I’m 27 now and I do well, I’m happy for the most part, but I still have this anxiety and lingering sadness that’s there sometimes. I still procrastinate, but I work on it because I want to make my dad proud and I want to, you know, be a functional adult lol. Which I am but moments come. Anyway, my point being, I think it really speaks to how amazing you are that you are finding yourself creatively, and doing it well. It takes more than people realize to overcome the trauma of losing a parent at a young age because it’s just that: trauma. But, you’re doing it. That’s really something to celebrate.

Sir, i hold you in the highest regard for multiple reasons and i commend you for a risky change as well as for producing such a heartfelt video. My condolences for your loss, regardless of the time that has passed. Sir i wish and expect the best from you, and while I am neither in a position to offer the skills/equipment you likely require for editing nor do i operate in the same niche as you I would still offer anything that i can to assist you with your endeavor. Best of luck to you sir, i'm excited to see what you bring to the table this year.

So you left Patreon to make a Patreon? Cool. I lost my mom when I was 13 around Christmas, which is part of the reason why I hate the season, and there isn't a day that goes by that I miss her. You left for a reason and don't forget it! I was recently fired from my job and do Uber full time, for now, but I never really nurtured any creativity that I had when I was younger but I'll keep watching and look forward to your success!

Ik this video's hella old but I've just recently became a fan of yours and I've been binge watching your vids like they're on Netflix lol. The moment you said, "To my mom..." I knew it was over for me. As in, I was gonna burst into tears any minute. Then you said, "I finally cleaned my room." And when your voice cracked I was sobbing. I lost my father to addiction 2 years ago. I loved him very much, he used to call me his "ride or die" and "his number one daughter" and I was in such a dark place when he died and I still cry when I'm alone sometimes. So from a daddy's girl to a mama's boy (and there's no shame in that lol), here's a hug over the net. Xoxo
