Just arrived in Korea to teach at a hagwon. It's been a month and it has been absolutely terrible, lots of misleading info and lack of organization that's been driving me bonkers 😭 I'm so glad to have seen your video! Not only has your energy cheered me up, it made me feel like that maybe somewhere down the line I can do this too! Will keep rooting for you!

This was interesting. I am currently in waiting to start teaching in January (fresh out of quarantine!). When I was interviewing, I couldn’t shake my intuition about a few offers (blacklisted, vague answers, never got in contact with coworkers). The school I ended up in I am getting paid the least and all the way out in the cut (Gangwon-do province) BUT, I am already satisfied with my experience. I asked a ton of questions, no answers were vague, and no one got offended when I would ask. I am going to be eased into teaching my class (kindergarten). I personally asked to be placed somewhere outside of Seoul (Seoul is low key infamous for hagwons) and work life balance being my most important factor. The experience I had, I was being interviewed (I am also an African American female so..) not the other way around. After I was hired though, excellent communication and they were very understanding (I had two deaths in the family and a parent get diagnosed with cancer. Yes I know lol). Let us see how it goes! All the luck and may Heavenly Father be with you!

I'm not an expert nor do I know you personally but I feel like the experience that you had a few years ago (as an exchange student) is different from the one you are having now. Different expectations and responsibilities now. I hope you'll find happiness in your new job. I have never worked in Korea before but I heard work culture is much much different there. Good luck! I spent the holidays in Seoul last 2019. I guess I was just lucky because I met a lot of friends and actually made one friend who basically "adopted" me during the Christmas season and invited me to their home, so I didn't feel alone. To new beginnings! Happy holidays! ❤

I just left Korea three weeks ago, and watching this made me get all sentimental ahhhh. After I graduate college, I want to move to Korea and start off teaching, but hopefully make a life for myself over there in any way that I can. It's been my dream since I was 12 years old, and finally getting the opportunity to go for three months really just confirmed that this is something I know I want to do. You have become an inspiration for me, and watching your videos brings me much joy and motivation! So for that, thank you Cherie~

Are you from the U.S.? I ask because I wood like to know how did you as a 12 yr old know what Korea even is? Asians in the U.S. are referred to as Chinese by many people or some call us Asian, but alot of people also think Asia is a country. Some do know what Korea is too, but it's probably because of the news about North Korea and their nuclear stuff.

@@matrices3987 lollll, I was there for three months and experienced no hostility at all. I was actually moved by their hospitality, and it came from people of all ages and from inside and outside of Seoul. So.. sorry if you had a bad experience 🤷🏽♀️

@@maddierose9633 How long do you plan to teach there? You could probably teach there forever if you want. I know someone who's been there almost 10 years lol. I am surprised you took an interest in Korea because it seems like one of the last countries anyone would take an interest in. it's a small country in a big world, a world with almost 200 of them. it's analogous to someone being interested in sri lanka or bulgaria.

I may wish to ask you questions along the way ☺. My first being, although i am very excited about having a new goal to strive towards, at the same time I am a bit nervous about leaving all I've know and striking out in another country where I know nobody, my question is, is it still worth doing nowadays? And have you ever regretted doing it?. Thanks 😊

Hi Cherie, Wishing you the best with your new job. Your video is meaningful and everything, but also a little sad. I'm sure you made more of an impact than you may realize on the previous school. Some of those kids could really miss you or wonder why you left. I wonder if it might not be a bad idea to send a card to both faculty and another card to be read out loud to the students. It could just be something very simple. I don't know, since you did not elaborate as to why you left. Sometimes a simple card can mean a lot and just wish them all the best and let them know that they were special to you, etc......Also, did you get the Southern exposure? good luck with your new job. Your videos are fun to watch. Best wishes for 2022!
