Here's a random fact about sugar: Sugar was once considered as a spice,not a sweetner.

Be careful when looking for sugar free products. Read the ingredients list carefully. Companies use many different types of words for sugar. Often things that say they're "sugar free" aren't. Dextrose, Sucrose, (basically any word that ends in "ose") corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, barley malt, brown rice syrup (pretty much any syrup) molasses, etc. These are all different kinds of added sugar.
@emmetgin6864
@emmetgin6864 4 жыл бұрын
“Sugar free” refers to sugar substitutes that have significantly less calories than sugar based sweetners. “Sugar free” never meant it’s free of all sugars. There’s a difference between “sugar free”, “no added sugar” and “unsweetened”.
@kaylee.w6970
@kaylee.w6970 4 жыл бұрын
@@emmetgin6864 I'm not sure about that. Even some that say "no added sugar" contain some kind of added sugar. And sugar free to me means: No added sugar or sweeteners. But what do I know, I'm not a health expert or dietitian. You should just educate yourself and read the ingredients list, then decide for yourself whether or not it's ok for you to eat.
@emmetgin6864
@emmetgin6864 4 жыл бұрын
Kaylee.w What you’re talking about is “Unsweetened” not “Sugar free”. You can’t have a subjective take on what “Sugar free”means, it’s a label already determined by the FDA. It’s the consumers responsibility to be educated on such terms and their differences and make informed decisions. It’s this sort of ignorance and fallacy’s manufacturers prey on with their marketing.
@emmetgin6864
@emmetgin6864 4 жыл бұрын
Again, that’s not what “no added sugar” means. For instance, orange juice already has natural sugars. “No added sugar” means you haven’t manually introduced any additional amount of sugar to the product that it naturally did not have. It never meant that there is no sugar.
@kaylee.w6970
@kaylee.w6970 4 жыл бұрын
@@emmetgin6864 I just meant that it's up to other people to decide what sugars they cut out of their diet. I cut out everything except for honey. Others might do it differently. All I was saying was that there's different names for sugar, and that you should know them and decide for yourself whether or not you want to eat it. As for the orange juice, I never said it did contain added sugar or that sugar free, no added sugar, etc, meant that there wasn't any sugar at all. I think we're misunderstanding each other. Either way, there's really no point in arguing about it.

Hi everyone So I am currently living without refined sugar for now almost years. I feel like now a day’s there are more alternatives, like for example foods that are sweetened with dates or coconut sugar which are more healthier options, so I can still have my piece of chocolate if I want. ;) But one thing that was shocking to me was how my taste started to change. Now to be honest I can’t stand the taste of a snickers bar or cake because it’s just to sweet and overpowering in its flavor and otherwise foods like carrots, fruits and even really dark chocolate (99%) taste sweet to me. You have to do a lot of research and inform yourself about the pros and cons of sugar and its use in the food industry to make it more approachable in an very day life but once you built this habit it really changes your life and the way you see food :)

I have by means cut out extra sugar - I only eat chocolate and sweet treats on the weekend, have done so for about 7 years - but even I've noticed that now I'm not that into sweet things. Hun, you're going to find sugar in everything. Even stuff that says sugar free. Even in things that you would consider pure protein. You need to read the ingredients to see it the sugars are healthy or refined. Everything on the label that ends in glucose is a type of sugar. Just looking at the percentages doesn't tell you what you need to know. Then when it comes to the healthy sugar you should just be mindful of how much you are consuming.

@@kayaadler4292 yes but she stated in the beginning that the reason she did this was because of her teeth getting constant cavities. Carbs will also affect that as well. So choosing less carb based options would be helpful for her in her situation 😊

@@Hazeydaze92 that’s why I said starches in my comment. Also she does eat a lot of pasta, seems to be one of her favorite things. I’m just stating it can be a combo of things. For example I currently have cavities and I don’t eat much sweet stuff or candy. But I eat a lot of pasta and starchy foods. All I’m doing is correcting people on saying pasta doesn’t have sugar, and the specific issue she pointed out in the video she was having. Someone else stated chickpea or lentil based pastas are better if you’re looking to take sugar out of your diet in another comment. I just don’t want diabetics or prediabetics reading this comment saying pasta/starch heavy foods don’t have sugar in them when they do and can play a big role in their blood sugar levels if they eat a lot of it. Eating too many starches can be just as bad as over eating desserts and candy

If you're trying to avoid cavities, brushing and dental hygiene is really important too. Dried fruit is natural sugars but actually harder on your teeth than gummy bears because they stick to your teeth and have fibrous bits that can linger between your teeth or in your mouth for a quite a while, whilst gummy bears dissolve really quickly. Those "sugar bugs" that convert your mouth leftovers into the acid that damages your teeth will have longer to make more acid if you've got raisin glop stuck in your molars. Cavities! Not to say gummy bears are a better choice nutritionally, or that gummy bears won't give you cavities so have as many as you like, just that there's more that goes into cavities than just "processed sugar bad"!

What you might have wanted to avoid was added sugar, or even just refined sugar - in which case you could've eaten a lot more foods that just happen to have a natural amount of sugar in them, much like a lot of the stuff you've actually been eating this week. You didn't quit sugar, not even almost - you merely cut back on sugar. If you actually wanted to cut out sugar completely your diet would basically have to boil down to fish and meat.

I have went to quiet a few dentists because of being in different cities. Whenever the topic came up most of them said you can have sweets just brush and floss your teeth before you go to bed. Though it's great you went sugar free, make sure there are no artificial sweeteners in things you consume, they do more harm than normal sugar. Love watching your videos. Keep it up👍 Edit : Happy b'day. You deserve a world of happiness❤

Hi, Taz! You can add in your diet Matcha powder, drinking Matcha tea is really healthy for your glucose levels and it cuts out your cravings. Also it is really good seeing someone who see the part of not consuming sugar as something funny, even if you have that problem with sweets. By the way, agave syrup/dates/maple syrup are really good(and healthy) alternatives to replace sugar in cooking.🌸🌿

Beautiful Taz✨❤️ You don’t need to completely eliminate sugar from your diet. What’s important is that you clean your teeth twice a day and floss. I can’t emphasise how important it is to floss your teeth and visit your dentist for a professional annual cleaning.The plaque, which is a biofilm that forms on your teeth, is the culprit and the bacteria in there can cause tooth decay and even in some cases gum disease. I suggest you invest in a proper toothbrush and use tooth floss every single day. There are illustrations of brushing techniques which you can find online, but I’m sure you already know☺️ Love your videos. Aaand happy birthday!🥳 From a sweet toothed dentist🙈❤️✨

Are you trying to quit sugar altogether or just added (processed) sugars? Most foods have natural sugars in it, and it's not necessarily bad for you. If you're trying to cut added sugars, that's totally doable! You'll be fine eating regular pasta or bakery-made bread. For chocolate, the only option that makes sense is erythritol (which tastes really bad in my opinion), but you can always cook your own sweets with dates, cacao, and etc.

Girl! this was hardcore, everything packaged has sugar, sugar could be in terms of carbs or any added flavour and also natural fruits and pasta's mostly mention and divide their nutritional value as sugar denoting to carbs. If you are looking for less sugar consumption maybe start with cutting out added sugar or sugary drinks, and then move to whole grain food or natural sweetners like honey or stevia. This way it brings about actually building good lifestyle habits. Loved the video! and Take care.. Waiting for the next one :)

Everything is fine in moderation. The issue among diet culture around the world is that it has this all or nothing mindset. Either eat all carbs or none at all, high fat or none at all, completely no sugar, cut out all junk food and eat 100% whole foods 24/7 etc. But really is if you eat everything in moderation and follow a well balanced diet (more whole foods with sweets and other junk food in moderation) you’ll be fine. Same goes with sugar and sweeteners.

Does anyone know if those cookies are actually sugar free? Because the ingredients on the website say “unrefined cane sugar” is the 3rd ingredient (plus regular cane sugar in the chocolate chips). From the Planet Organic site: Ingredients: Brown rice flour*, tapioca flour*, unrefined cane sugar*, cocoa powder*, chocolate chips (cane sugar, cocoa mass, cocoa butter, emulsifier: sunflower lecithin, natural vanilla flavouring), gluten-free oats, milled flaxseed, chicory extract (2%), raising agent (bicarbonate of soda), salt. *Ingredient from organic agriculture.
