I’ve gained a lot of respect for Japanese cars. I grew up with Ford and American cars in general so that being what I knew that’s what I preached was best. But while many Japanese cars as they are from the factory are not much performance wise, they’re bullet proof, which also means you can throw boost at stock engines and outrun a lot of muscle cars. They’re definitely good cars. And something I thought I’d never say, I think my next car is going to be a Honda

2:20 The engine speed drops and the engine goes into hunting mode, but this is not due to damage to the engine. This is the ignition prevention control mode. All Honda cars from about 20 years ago have this control. If you fall asleep with the engine running and press the accelerator unintentionally, we purposely set the hunting to prevent it from catching fire. This is to lower the exhaust temperature. Depending on the engine with a high maximum rotation speed, it will enter this mode in about 30 seconds. Once you let go of the accelerator, lower the revs, and then fully open the accelerator again, The engine speed will rise again to near the red zone. It wasn't broken, it was working properly.

I noticed that too. The oil pan on those Civics most definitely does not retain a significant amount of oil after it's drained though. this is not the way a car should be treated tho. every year 1 oil change. old dirty oil will sooner or later clog up the oil control rings and then they seize on the pistons and they wont do thier job. means the car will start burning oil. if a car starts burning oil, the life of your engine oil gets shortened and the residue from burning all that oil will clog up other things like valves, the other 2 piston rings and before you know it, your engine burns more and more oil and the seized rings wear out the cylinder bores and the engine is toast. so people, DO YOUR OIL CHANGES

@@flatmoontheory No engine is made to work without oil. It's ability to run longer without the adequate level of oil has nothing to do with reliability. Did the Peugeot or Ford's engine stop because it got stuck or because the computer said: 'There's no oil or water. We have to shut down'. A mechanic would know that sometimes we need to suck the oil from the engine, for an effective oil change.. It could be the case that the engine was allowing fuel to mix with the oil (it was a scrap car...) The video was fun but there a lot of variables that we don't know nothing of.

I proudly began my life as a brand new Honda, serving a loving family of three. The young dad cared for me very well, washing me every weekend. I witnessed many happy moments and watched the kid grow. I was so happy when the kid painted a beautiful picture of me. This was my happiest memory. I was latter sold to a young student, carrying him through many challenges in life. Finally, he got a good job, we parted ways with bittersweet farewells. Now, I find myself abandoned and neglected, suffering at the hands of a person named Matt. I never knew this would be my end, I still want to live on for another 10 years, maybe 20, or even more 🥺😭 I could not die here…

Theres an urban legend that there has never been a Honda engine failure (in normal use). I'm very sad that the UK factory is closing down, I've had 2 UK made Hondas and they are superb. I used to think German cars were good when I was young and didn't know better, but that was in comparison to British Leyland ones which looking back were terrible. Mercs up to about 1990 are good too, but parts cost more as most of them get exported to Africa so hard to get used spares from breakers.

I hear you and as much as people say cars are machines, I tend to grow attached to mine especially considering I buy cars and keep them atleast 7 years or more and they become a big part of my life. But these cars probably had long and happy lives serving as reliable daily drivers for some British family. They were getting junked anyways and needed to be put down so they can be recycled and give life to a new car to start it's happy life. We had a newly purchased 1988 Dodge Caravan growing up and it was with us for 16 years. It was my first car senior year of High School. When I left for college my old man sold it and the new owner totalled it. I was crushed when I found out.
