I'm so pleased to hear this because it makes ME feel less alone. I sit on the other side of the screen watching all my friends go on fun group runs that I'm too ashamed to join because of 50% chance I'll have issues in front of other people who may or may not be understanding. I want running friends so bad but it's not something I find easy to talk about openly. So many runners say "one day you will experience it" and here I am thinking, every other day I experience it! I wish it was more openly talked about!

Good job on the running. My husband is also running almost every day (also doesn't get sick) and now my 14yo daughter is starting to get into it, so that is indeed great of your dad to show you that type of life. Hope all is well with him. Your video is also inspirational to me, with feet and digestion issues, I might give it another go :-) (also turning 45 at the end of the year). All the best for more great running!

I've been running for decades now as well. It keeps your cardiovascular system healthy and that's a huge deal. I don't care about racing anymore. I listen to fast music and try to stride with the rhythm of the beat. It makes the run more of a dance instead of a run, and so I can say I'm not running, but dancing to the beat for 30 minutes. Only 0.7% of the population can run a 5K, and only 5% of the population does any kind of regular exercise. I do experience a runner's high, but its a mix of psychology and physiology. Lastly, eating is so much more enjoyable if you exercise regularly.

Its good that it gets talked about, mind you if somebody had said to me when I first discovered running. great work Scully and keep it up...and your dad too! And hey, it doesn't matter if it was 11 days or 1 day without running because of illness! Most people don't even manage 1 or 2+ months of running every day! As long as you want and have fun, enjoy it and do your thing! 1 year or 2, 5, even 10 years in a row is excellent and everyone can be proud! Because it's a long way to the official world record in running strike by Ron Hill, a former Olympian, to beat Ron at 52 years and 39 days....!!! He stopped running strikes when he was almost 80! So don't put pressure on yourself and stress about taking a break for health reasons! In any case, I think your performance is excellent and great! Greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭🤘🏼

@@CScullyBrown I started running at 15 - I was “forced” lol, it was demanded for the two sports I did, sailing, as prep training, and fighting, we had run tests in the belt exams - I ran “forcefully” till I was 27, when I decided to quit the exams because I couldn’t handle the training load alongside my actual career. So then, at 27, I questioned myself if I would stop running, but instead I decided to, for the very first time, set a different goal, I didn’t have to reach a distance or a pace anymore, so I decided that my new goal was to ENJOY a run. Lmao. I always did very short distances, from 3k (that was my exams’ distance) to 5k. But when I set this goal of enjoying a run I “accidentally” began to go longer. I would see ppl passionate about running and would be profoundly intrigued by HOW could they enjoy that crap 😂 Now I’m 34, Ive been mostly to 21ks and nowadays I love running (and of course hate it as well). But when I started doing longer distances I started feeling the worst bowel cramps. Most runners I know don’t have that. And that really hit me.. coz running became my number one sport and it scares me to think I might be kept from doing it. It really helped seeing your personal experience. I never shit my pants, but definitely almost puked a hundred times and ran to bathrooms amongst several running peers watching my shame 🙃 I’m going to try diet changes.. but idk.. maybe that’s just how it is and I’ll need to grow accustomed to it the same way I did about enjoying the run… Looking forward to seeing next videos of yours, thanks again. And you also inspired me to perhaps someday become capable of running a much higher week volume, that whenever I saw on strava I thought was an only superhumans thing. Thanks for sharing! I keep getting blood sugar crashes while running, which triggers migraine Auras and/or ringing in my ears. I have been managing by eating a few scoops of ice cream before a run. It seems to keep the Auras away. If you don't know what they are, you basically lose 1/3rd of your vision... it sucks. Luckily I found lots of blackberry bushes and stuff my face for 15 minutes till the aura went away, then walk home. Thanks!

@plantwateringcitizen8787 thats a nice statement! I watch those videos too sometimes and laugh a little. I don't follow any "proper" training plans. I love this so much!! I failed to mention the effect it had on my mental state which was huge. (IS HUGE) The closer i got to the year, the more I knew there was no way I was going to stop. When you form a habit like this for so long, it can't stop (in my mind so long as you're healthy). And if you truly love running, it is the best thing ever. I can't see myself stopping unless I'm forced to for some reason. I hope you enjoy the ups and downs of it, It really does enhance everything else in life. Good luck!

My son is type 1. Diagnosed at 5 and he's turning 7... As a T1 caregiver... It blows my mind that you're able to do this! Whenever he gets active it means go time for me trying to keep enough sugar in him for him to be able to run around without hitting low. It's a different world indeed but it gives me hope that he will get to be active when he gets older as more and more T1's share their adventures. I finished my first 50k in June and love running but I can only do so long on a streak before needing a day off. Everyone is different, ideally though... I think 5k is the perfect daily distance. I'm going to try and start a streak again to see how it goes, I normally do 6 days rest 1. Would love your pointers on form.

Thank you so much for the kind words. I always said, I couldn't imagine being a T1 parent. i got DX'd at 22 so no one has ever had to care for me. Exercise poses all sorts of challenges and I find myself fixing things on the fly. Each sport affects blood sugar differently and for me as an "aging female" lol, I am facing highs and lows at every turn where I didn't used to. It's forever a learning process. It's more about being prepared with both sugar and insulin and relying heavily on the technology of the CGM which is huge. Good luck to you and your own adventures, I'm training for my own first 50k (and possibly 100k) too. Pointers on form are hard because form relies so heavily on your own body. I know for me, switching to a higher cadence and forefoot strike are the two things that improved everything. But it's not perfect and doesn't work for every one! good luck!

@@CScullyBrown awesome pointers! I've been tweaking my form and I really loved your tip about paying attention to it. Mindfully, it has helped me focus on certain fatigue cues. I've been working on cadence and foot strike so I'll continue to practice. Being a T1 caregiver is such a journey. I am grateful to be able to do it tho. I'm sorry you had to learn on your own. I subscribed. I look forward to watching another video when you complete that ultra! Just remember to eat loads of fuel because this T1 mom will be rooting for you. 🧡🧡🧡

Hey you. I'm a trail runner apparently exactly your age. Respect. Part of my reasons are also managing stuff in my own head and body, stuff to overcome. Your points sound all very familiar. As a man, I do those strength exercises to balance upper and lower body musculature. Run less, gain more muscle; run more, lose some muscle. Funny how predictable the body can be. I had a long, long 3x week strike once. Running every day does cause stress fractures for me, maybe I'm trying to push too hard and then there's that serious sub-zero weather with snow and ice that does wear you out in different ways before spring comes around. But anyway, may you run long and find the peace you need, and maybe we cross trails one day.

Stress and anxiety are a huge factor for me too. I find it difficult to turn my brain off if I'm not exercising. I'm trying hard to do more strength but it's such a chore because i hate it. It's not uncommon for something like this to cause stress fractures and over-use injuries. I've taken every day with a grain of salt! thank you for the comment. good luck with your own running and exercising! indeed, may we cross trails one day!

Inspiring. I love to run but I dont run often enough so I think you have inspired me to try every 3 days to start. I have had injury issues in past with pushing running frequency but more likely these were due running intensity vs slow running. Question for you: What kind of shoes do you wear and how many pairs did you go through during your streak? Best of luck to you!!!
@CScullyBrown
@CScullyBrown 2 ай бұрын
@ddelmarsmith thanks for the nice comment and I appreciate that I've been lucky with no major injuries. I increased slowly and carefully because I was afraid of injuries but over time I just seemed to thrive on higher mileage. I only wear Altras because the wide toe box and they just feel good so im nervous to try other brands since these always work so well. I keep 3 or 4 pairs on rotation, I probably went through 1 pair of trail and 3 pairs of road throughout the year.

Nice! Congrats. Your streak is super impressive and your dads! holy cow! I just turned 50 a few weeks ago and decided to do a year of daily running. Today was day 16.. 349 to go :) I feel like i'm capable.. just gotta keep watching videos like yours :) I've been a fairly consistent every other day runner for probably 25 years. I'm just worried about food poisoning or stepping off a curb :) Do you have another goal now.. 2 years ? Also have you checked out Roverunner's channel? He's almost 2 years in.

thanks for the comment! I wasn't sure how a silly video like this would be received. I love my run streak and have no plans of stopping anytime soon. Maybe one day I will get burned out, who knows. Keep it up, if you really enjoy running, the challenge of the daily grind makes it so much more fun. Gives you something to work towards. It sounds like you've already got a great base for it like I did. I feel like most people who don't do well at this are new runners. I have no idea what my next goal is but I am training for a 50k and possibly even longer after that. I am always worried about feeling unwell or actually injuring myself. I will check out Roverunners channel, thanks for the recommendation!

In April, a friend invited me to tackle some challenging mountain hikes here in the Yukon, but I knew I was in terrible shape after a winter of struggling with seasonal depression. I didn't want to hold them back or be unable to keep up, so I started running to get in shape for the summer adventures. It's been a game-changer! Not only did I survive the demanding hikes, but I also discovered a new passion for running. I prefer trail runs, but with the abundance of bears in our area, I always make sure to find a running buddy for safety. It can be tough to coordinate, but it's worth it. Along with running, I've also started weightlifting and have lost 13 pounds, feeling stronger and leaner. Your video is incredibly inspiring - thank you for sharing your story and motivating others to take control of their fitness journey!
