I had my JLC Reverso go through a 40min cycle in my chinos a couple months back. It was sent back to the factory for full service and came back brand new - needed crown replacement and polishing. Black aligator strap actually was not that damaged. Both quality and after market service made a JLC life long customer. Good luck with the Cartier Britt :D

Oh I see... Family matters anyway, and in everywhere! Great new that this Cartier is still kickin despite of some minor issues. I would try nurturing that leather strap with Argan oil, f.ex., or that one made for shoes or leather belts as well. A retrofit mission to acomplish. Please give to us Britt a soon good new related. I did this once with a Lorus watch I took off while painting a fence over a weekend. Watch was in the shorts side pocket and it stayed there. I put it in before I went to work on the Monday and came to hang my washing at lunch time. Watch was fine. I guess I was lucky. 😅

My wife once rinsed her phone...0% chance of survival there. You guys are lucky, perhaps give some beeswax a go for the strap and let it sit for a few days with too much on before buffing it off. Good luck at the shop!

the strap: give it a good old school treatment like Lexol conditioner; it may darken is slightly but will soften it from the heat and likely remove any wrinkle. Or go all out and use leatherique automotive "rejuvenator" and then conditioner, and follow directions to use the first product in direct sunlight. It will be as new.

I can't watch this Britt. Having run both my Heuer Re Edition and my Sinn U2 through a 30 degree wash, this is just too painful. The Heuer needed a full service, while the Sinn U2 survived, put dents in the washing machine drum, and needed to have the GMT hand tightened again, after coming loose.

I am going out on a dark limb and say the the Atlantic Scuba Association has NOT given the Cartier Tank a "Most Recommended" stamp of Approval and I don't think this video will change that.

Fixing that strap is easy, I got this tip from Spencer Klein and it's what The Smithsonian uses to spruce up ancient leather: Remove all the furniture and buckles, wash it thoroughly with a detergent like Fairy. Work it into the leather all the way through. Rinse and leave it so the outside can dry off. Get a tub of lanolin, not the perfumated type they say is for couches, you want the 100% stuff, straight from the sheep's arse. Work the lanolin in like you did with the detergent. Wipe off and leave dry. If the watch is padded with material or a foam, best not try this, the padding with get wreaked

You could try oiling the strap. I have over the years done terrible things to leather boots and managed to bring them back. Mink oil, maybe? As for the watch, I'm pretty impressed it's still running.

Take this as an OPPORTUNITY! New Strap!!! I wouldn't worry about the movement. Quartz movements can sometimes be dried out and will work fine. If not, it won't cost an arm and a leg to replace. Quartz movements are notably less pricey than mechanical ones. And the sapphire crystal just needs cleaning for the soap residue, since your rinse cycle is clearly ineffective. But get it fixed and buy a new strap. You should get a bespoke strap from the same guy who made the bespoke strap for my Omega Constellation 41mm in blue (I emailed you a photo some months ago.) The strap is shiny deep blue alligator leather and is the perfect strap for this watch. Omega SHOULD sell this watch with this strap! For your Cartier I would go with a very deep brown, much darker than the one you have now, in shiny alligator leather, and with color matching stitching rather than contrasting white. This is your chance to make this watch really pop and reach its full potential as an object d'art! And don't worry about the watch. It will all wash out in the end.😎🍸
