I bought my kiddo the How Not to Get Eaten by Owlbears for Christmas; As someone with very little experience of D&D outside of the homebrew world they play in, I thought it would be an interesting introduction to Fearun. I also bought myself the World and Realms book for Christmas, so I have that to look forward to. I appreciate the honesty and optimism in the reviews! Love the channel!

Tales From The Yawning Portal and Ghosts of Saltmarsh are two other "old adventures remixed for 5e" anthologies like Quests From The Infinite Staircase, with some pretty neat older adventures that could easily be plopped into a running campaign without too much fuss, or used as one-shots. Candlekeep Mysteries and Journeys through the Radiant Citadel are anthologies of all-new adventures that are meant to do the same thing. Some of the adventures in Ghosts form a running plot, continuing from one to the next, but only 3 or 4, I believe. A good way to maybe jumpstart a campaign could be to change a few major names (Greymoor instead of Saltmarsh, maybe) and see if a group wants to keep going after the first adventure.

@@BonusAction Glass beads of multiple colours, work well for placeholders for points of interest, marking out AOE spell areas, most also fit in standard squares so can work as placeholders for minis. Deck of cards, not only as a super cheap way of doing the deck of many things (like critical role S1), but everyone loves a card game in a tavern and super cheap. A bendy ruler, here me out, for when you need to do distances for spells and you arent sure you can hand the ruler and as most cover "60ft" its a quick and easy thing to just grab when you see one

The anthology modules are classic modules from 1st edition. Infinite Staircase contains some historical adventures.

I HATE the new character sheets for one main reason. The spell sheet is 100% necessary to have for every character, even if they don’t cast spells. Give me a whole page for features, move equipment back to the front page, and just keep a 3rd, optional sheet for spells. It’s an aesthetic upgrade, but functionally worse imo

Calling something Elon Musk says "political" is inherently flawed. He's not a political figure, he's a rich man forcing himself into the public eye. He's also upset that they printed true statements, that's not politics that's whining. I cannot support the legitimization of Musk's opinion as "political".

Personally I love the deck of many things set. My partner bought it and I wasn't it so bad. Personally I like the extra guide book because it's meant to basically use the deck of many things as a tarot deck. Which to me makes the price worth it. Because you're getting a wonderful dnd tool with a full dnd book and essentially getting a tarot deck which most are $30+.

Players Guide = Good. DMG = Good (great if you are a new {home/in person} GM). CS = bad = should have been class specific (i've used them and yes you run out of space unless you write very small. And don't use them when you level up.) Journal = bad = the concept is interesting but the DMG contains some great DM pages for planning and tracking and those should have been inside that book and not just graph paper (i can buy a graph paper journal for a $1 or 2). Mimic box = bad = should have been class based journals with class based CS printed inside of them (again this is a product that you can buy for a few dollars at the dollar store. If the box were molded it might have been far cooler or if it maybe came with a dice set or something fun... otherwise it's just massively over priced for something that doesn't even make sense... why monsters on journals with blank pages?) . How Not To Get Eaten = Fine (or good if for Young Adventurers), Worlds & Realms = Fine (Good for new DM's and players as it contains good overview of the worlds in a format that doesn't tell to much but enough). Book of Many Things = Good (as long as WotC doesn't send the Pinkertons after you) BUT the Game Master's Deck of Boons & Banes is way cheaper (1/4 the price) and better. VECNA book... high level DnD is absurd but good if that's what you want to do. Quests from the Infinite Staircase = Great (so useful for short fun adventures, especially for new'ish DM's). Bardic Inspiration Music = no opinion on it, i prefer to use my own or stuff that i find but I've never listened to it and don't plan on it Lego = no opinion on it as a product, i don't collect it and it has no interest for me Wizkids Minis = Bad = loot boxes/booster boxes are gambling exactly like loot boxes in video games. The mini's themselves are poor quality. They have special "cases" you can buy that go on sale and give you better variety and just a couple of the random boxes in them, it's a better deal. Otherwise I'd buy the mini's one at a time to guarantee you get what you want as it's nearly the same price and takes out the risk of getting duplicates or ones that you don't want. CONCLUSION = the vast majority of WotC products are way to over priced and of low quality with significantly cheaper alternatives available easily/readily at places like the dollar store or in the form of digital offerings. Most DnD oriented products that are of good quality and far more useful will come from companies & creators that are not WotC

Did not get. I got the book and if you ignore the forward you are Lokay. I have a Lego Person in my shop, and he said the D&D product was too high. And he decorates his cube with Lego Sets. Bad. Fine. Character Sheets are a nice gift from uncle. Vecna is an okay adventure I overlaid a heavy cartoon/ looney tunes flavor to it. Just three chapters to go. If you have a Walmart nearby, you may get the lego minifigs cheap after the holidays. Good. I create my own DM Screen and put Player facing sheets on the front. PHB I always try to get the Alt covers to help the FLGS. I have not open my Deck of Many Things, but use the e-copy. Infinite Staircase is a good to great so far, with a lot of old school flavor. Great. DMG I always try to get the Alt covers to help the FLGS.

I was going to buy the book of concealment, but it's $33 Canadian so that's going to be a pass. $20 ($25 cdn) for a blind box of a badly painted mini? Hard pass. Those should go in the bad section. Find someone in your local community that 3D prints and buy a box of speed paints. You can do a better job than what's in the blind box for a little above the same price for one box. Bonus is that you can now buy cheaper minis every time and already have the paints.
@BonusAction19 күн бұрын
I am also saving up for a 3d printer, and want to try mini painting, but I am not sure it would be something I enjoy (I have a really bad attention span). But I am definitely going to give it a try!
@piptarou19 күн бұрын
@@BonusAction Luckily with speed paints, all you do is prime the mini white and then paint with them. It's translucent enough to add colour, but it will also flow into the recesses to create some shadows (there's also other methods you can use with speed paints, but this is the fastest one). I have adhd, so it's a mixed bag when I try to paint if I'm going to focus or not. I mostly paint for competitions now, so the deadline is the power source for my adhd gremlin. The deadline of a game should also work if you also thrive on chaos and deadlines like I do. If you do decide to try out painting, I recommend Ninjon's video on slapchop as a quick intro into using speed paints. Minis painted this way typically turn out great for table top games :)
@LB_adventurer17 күн бұрын
@@BonusAction if you decide to stick with prepainted minis, sometimes just using something like the dipping the mini into Army Painter strong or weak tone then letting them dry will bring out a lot of definition and detail in the mini. OR just putting a little of the similar color Speed Paint onto it in a few places will really make the mini look better with minimal effort. You don't need to entirely re-paint the mini just lay down a bit of color over things like the cloaks or leathers and it will give them definition and depth.
