Fun video Matt! It was really interesting to see where you put all of these cards. Personally, I would rate the Surpass card either equal to or better then the Brilliant card, and that's coming from a Marriott loyalist! I think the Surpass and Brilliant beyond in the A tier, but that's just me!

would you still choose the Marriott Brilliant over Hilton Aspire? I’m leaning more towards Marriott for my first luxury hotel card to jumpstart lifetime platinum status even though I know the Aspire is a better overall card

@@justinschai Depends on what status benefits are important to you. As a night owl my favorite is that Marriott Platinum gets you guaranteed late checkout at most properties, assuming properly educated hotel managers. Unfortunately Marriott corporate isn't as strict about educating management as they should be, especially at the franchised locations, but you can usually get it worked out. Hilton status only ever gets you "if available" late checkout, which Hilton managers are incentivized to always summarily deny.

The Brilliant with the old annual Marriott hotel credit is S tier or close to it in my book, but the new monthly dining credit nerfs it hard. Nobody would voluntarily put dining spending on the Brilliant. Devaluing your spending by means of breakage or low value points currency is of course the point: forcibly pulling category spending from high earning cards like the Gold or BCP to low earning cards like the Brilliant or Platinum is a (somewhat) hidden profit center for Amex.

BCP i feel like is one of the most underated cards out there. We use it for groceries and hulu. And with a family of 5 we get tons of value from that! Great video

Thank you David! I would absolutely recommend that you first apply normally to get the welcome bonus on the Aspire. Sometimes, getting an upgrade offer first will make you ineligible for the welcome bonus. So, you'll want to apply for the Aspire regularly, and then upgrade from the Surpass to the Aspire afterward.

I have this one solid 2% cash back card their new app is a godsend as the online website only account access at the time was crap ha. The card also offers some Amex perks all around a good card for flat cash back and gives you some taste of what Amex is about.

Great video, Matt! Where did you land on the Brilliant? In the video you said A-tier and placed it there, but I noticed later on in the video that it was S-tier on the chart. I agree with A-tier, since the credits would be harder for me to use than the Aspire.

Blue cash preferred for me. The Disney credit makes the annual fee effectively $11. Then you factor in extended warranty, purchase protection and return protection, and you have an easy positive value card each year. That doesn’t even factor in the actual earning of the card. Easily a keeper card.

Great video, Matt! I totally agree with your rankings on each American Express card. The Hilton Aspire card definitely deserves to be in the S tier with the Platinum card. I must say, I had to laugh when you put the Marriott Bonvoy Bevy card in the dumpster tier. I think it belongs there too, because I cannot see where anyone would really benefit from having that card. All of the other Marriott Bonvoy cards are so much better, even the Bold card!

Good video Matt. I have to respectfully disagree with the every day card ranking. I know the multipliers and welcome bonus aren't great, but since this is a $0 annual fee card that earns MR points. This can be a great card to have in case you dont feel the platinum or gold cards are worth keeping due to the coupon book features, but still want to keep your MR points

These days I like the Hilton Surpass better than the Amex Gold, possibly superior on the first $15K spend, but overall I think they're direct rivals. I'd rank the Delta Reserve in B tier with the Delta Platinum, simply because of the expanded companion pass. We'll see how it goes as a sock drawer card, that bogo flight and Delta Stays credit will have to hold a punch without many restrictions, or our trip changes screwing things up.

Same thing with Delta Cards, a lot of the value is really dependent on how much you fly with Delta & how much you'd get value from Delta-specific benefits. I read that Amex Gold points are worth twice as much as Hilton points. I feel like after using up the Hilton points the Amex Gold would be better. 4x gold point would be = 8x Hilton points. If your like me most of my expenses are gas,food and restaurants.

Great video Matt! I would have put the EveryDay cards in the C tier. There is no way they are less valuable than the Cash Magnet. The $6000/year cap on the EveryDay Preferred is annoying but it is the same cap as the BCP. I actually think the EveryDay Preferred is underrated as an MR point card for lower spenders. 4.5x on groceries up to $6000, 3x on gas, and 1.5x on everything else is not too shabby.

I agree the Bonvoy Bevy is junk as a keeper card, but it does have a nice SUB especially right now. The addition of family language barring you from a SUB on the Bevy if you have a Brilliant forces you to get the Bevy first to maximize your lifetime Marriott earnings, just like the new family language for the Green/Gold/Platinum now forces you to get the Green first to maximize your lifetime MR earnings.

Bevy in the dumpster tier for sure, although for a welcome bonus it's not terrible! In my situation the AMEX Platinum is a B-tier unfortunately but I know for a lot of people it's a great card. Hotel & Airline Co-branded Cards typically earn the specific points/miles associated with that particular travel brand, whereas a general amex card like the Green, Gold or Platinum, earns Amex specific points. Thanks for watching Colin!

Blue Cash Preferred doesn’t earn points. It earns dollars, which can be applied as statement credits. So if you spend $100 at a grocery store, you earn 6% or $6, which can be applied as a statement credit to offset future purchases on the card.
