I Ranked Every Encounter in Pokemon Run & Bun

After a year and a half of attempting to beat Pokemon Run & Bun as a Hardcore Nuzlocke, I finally did it in August of this year. In this video I'm ranking every encounter in the game through my experience.

Guess I have the whacko effect because I’m currently playing run and bun and I got paras twice back to back in two attempts both with effect spore (I don’t know if paras has another ability) and paras is good for the aqua grunt fight having bug bite so I would ko the carvanah and when he switches to coragunk I switch to paras during fake out. Both times I got sleep effect spore on the fake out basically killing that mon and then still having enough health for exeggcute to bug bite and one hit

Vivillon is so crazy early that I started resetting when I dont get a good one (i.e Compound Eyes and enough speed to outspeed the Brawly's Kubfu). It trivializes all the early game bosses up to Roxanne. It OHKO's or 2HKO's the first Aqua Grunt's team so with little support, no deaths there. Then it forces the Whirlipede into Rollout while taking it to less than half so anything resisting Rollout can finish the match. To top it off, it makes Brawly's team look like a joke. It kills Kubfu without losing HP, has protect to trivializes Lopunny by protecting, putting it to sleep and sending it away. Switches in on Scraggy and if you spam Sleep Powder there will be a window where it is possible to slot in two Air Cutters for the kill. Same for Hitmontop. The only thing that can be scary is the Speed Boost Combusken, which for that there are plenty of switch ins. Making it deathless for as long as possible early game is amazing since early on the movepools aren't diverse and there aren't enough resources to get around everything so the player is very dependant on luck. I wasn't expecting it to be so good in this game.

Back from class to continue watching, gonna say, Delphox is my favourite pokemon to use in run and bun. I love its type combo offensively and overheats always useful, I always find uses for Delphox

So on my furthest run, I actually had a sawk and I needed it for norman, and it by far had the most frags out of any of my mons. it was adamant 31 attack 31 hp 31 speed with mold breaker and it was fucking nuts. It unfortunately died on a grunt in AHO but it was absolutely fantastic. Its fantastic on norman, it took like 4 frags there lol

I’m not a very good or very sweaty player at all, I just find run and bun to be cool and fun, but it is way too difficult for me to get anywhere. I cheated in some master balls and heart scales and stuff and I’m gonna go thru the entire game in the hopes to get better, but I had no idea what I should be prioritizing on each route. The thing is that the worth of some mons depends on your other encounters. In my last run Amoongus was my only grass type up until the Safari Zone. After catching Rillaboom, the shroom never came out of the box again, but it did A LOT for me in early game and I'd be glad to encounter it again.

A tad surprised you put Castform in S because of the life orb but Kecleon in A despite scaling role play being one of the only consistent ways to grab the leftovers from Hoopa in the Tate and Liza fight. Otherwise pretty solid list.

I think it might not be in the video but when recording I mentioned the fact that you can consistently get another shed shell made me put it in A. In my winning run I had a kecleon and couldn't really afford to steal lefties, it's honestly less about Kecleon and more about slot compression with something like Dragapult, which I didn't have. Either way it's a great Pokemon!

On my current run Armaldo has been pretty crazy, for Flannery I didn’t have any rock sliders other than it, but Armaldo with RS+ Rapid spin to kill Salazzle t2 can be really good, it took 6 kills for me

I’ve had a fossil Armaldo and outside of the double battle niche, it does pretty well into both tabitha fights. It’s decent early game, was kinda sad to get it from fossil but I was pleasantly surprised.

I can give some info on cinderace, as I've got one in my current one. You can only get it in 127 grass (5%), and for me its done a lot since my box had no other good fire types. Its kinda redundant if you have ape, and needs good stats to be good but provided I don't wipe to VR or any of the 123 optionals, it will also be on my e4 team.

Boltund if it has good IVs is an actual god through the mid game, and can even OHKO Kyogre on Archie. I also used Hisuian Typhlosion in my current run (post space tag) and it came to and swept half the fights in T&L gym. It's an easy low-mid A tier.

I've gotten anorith from myself fossil and at least for Flannery split its pretty good, rock type that isn't weak to grass or ground is really good for Flannery split. Mine had perfect bulk and an adamant nature tbf but I still think it's good regardless, I'd say b tier is fair.

I'd love to see some tier lists broken down by archetype, with different entries for mons that really differ by ability. Like, it's sort of weird to ask "which is better, Togedemaru or Beedrill?" -- they just have totally different roles. I don't know exactly what the archetypes would be though. About Gengar, I had it twice and honestly it's not great. It's easy to switch in but it can't take a hit, so it's just a fast attacker -- and you're just not going to OHKO much with shadow ball or sludge bomb. Honestly I'd be tempted to leave it as a haunter because ghost+levitate is a great set of immunities. I also ran arcanine once. It has great synergy with Torterra, similar to Gyarados but baiting ground moves is nice. The problem is Hamilton gets those 31 IVs...So you have to have such a stacked Arcanine to even consider keeping it. Latias has really nice PP stall strats. It's bulky and recover and protect both have 10 PP, so you can stall out a tonne of stuff.

I honestly REALLY don't know. It's really hard to gauge how good those mons are when you get them so late into the game, I imagine at the very least they're all E4 viable with the right team composition

One use of Boltund depending of the IV is super late, but I know mine could one shot the Kyogre lead from SFC (dont remember if it was banded or not) Duraludon is horrible. Never found any use for it. You have better Draco Meteor user at that point. Also, the few places you can get it is , there are heaters like Sneasler, Weavile, Goodra-H, etc you can get The only rating I would change on this for the pokemon I used is Gliscor. Always been in top frags, come to a lot of fights and the typing is very great Another Walrein believer here. Probably the better Gyarados counter all game long I got Jirachi and it was very good until I wiped to some optionals. My now E4 run I got Victini and I want to bring it to E4 even though it doesnt do that much. I just feel still in the end that they are bait

Ledian definitely c tier. Used it as a sack on lilycove rival to use tailwind and kill the back 3 pokemon for a riskless line.

I've a hisuian decidueye in my current run and I can say firsthand, it didn't leave the box a single time. I talked with some people in Pchals discord abt hisuian decidueye saying its probably decent, it wasn't. I just beat tate and Liza and it hasn't left the box once

I'm finding myself agreeing with almost everything except, most notably Ribombee. That mon is straight S Tier, even without considering it's superior availability/"early" game compared to other top performers. Bug types somehow own in this romhack 😅 and Fairy is the single most desirable type in R&B too imo.

I think Excadrill is somewhat overrated. Compared to the other S-tier mons, it leaves the box too rarely. Aside from the few fights in the sand, it slams a couple fairies with its head and spins sometimes

So I could be in the minority here but I rolled Charizard in Magma Hideout. Dude has left the box 3 times total on my PB that’s in victory road now. I would call it low C to D tier. For reference, mine was jolly with shitter IVs so it’s like terrible without mega

speed AND flip turn ‼️ while accelgor gets u-turn as well, it baits HORRIBLY bc of its typing and how frail it is, it's very inconsistent in that aspect I could be wrong tho!

So my current run (on Pyre tag atm) has both an escavalier with shell armor as well as a scizor (got it as a scizor so sadly couldnt just keep it as a syther) and honestly other than outspeeding some mons that escavalier doesnt (like stakataka which is relevant for the line I am calcing right now) scizor has just been a worse version of escavalier so far, while escavalier has been one of my best mons ever since I got it in Fallarbor. So Scizor one tier over my GOAT is wild to me xD. Although tbf I would expect escavalier to be a whole lot worse without shell armor AND I am yet to cook a line that properly uses Swarm so...

Should i go for metagross or dragonite in lilycove city? I have a magnet pull pokemon so i can try to get beldum or metang. If i fish my possible encounter are carracosta or dragonite. And i don't know what pokemon should i try to get in safari zone. There is a zone where i can get carracosta/blastoise/froakie. But are there any other pokemon i should pick?

Duraludon is difficult to position but its faster than you think and wayyyyy thicker than it should be. In the right conditions it can absolutely fucko mode. Mid b imo. Baiting fighting and ground will always be useful especially on a chonker with solid output.

Magmortar 49:12 can actually wall melmetal rival. My magmortar (move set: heat wave, slack off, will o wisp, toxic) can come in when he uses his steel attack (can't remeber the name) and willowisp. Then slack off e 2shot him with heat wave. But it was the only time i used him

For me the best megas in this game abuse the ai in some way. Absol gaining an ability like magic bounce, aggron, ampharos and altaria changing typing and beedrill for gaining shit tons of speed and having access to u-turn.

I almost get armaldo every single time from the fossil, also have it in my current run and just because its one of the earlier battle armor mons it comes to a fair few fights either for pivots or straight 1v1, would put it in B

Clef in B is accurate, I’d say low B or high C. It was obviously run defining for me but objectively not sure it does much throughout the run. Theoretically good for pyre tag if you ignore the Pchal curse and its track record there, but otherwise it came to a couple fights for me as a bulky fairy. I will say Gengar is a bum though, it’s good for Preston & Maura but without levitate bro is washed - I’d say low B. Not used the mega but I’ve heard others say it’s not as great as it seems

Think is gengar is very complex to use. You need to be baiting specific moves for it pivot. But it has a place in a lot of fights.

have to say, couple great picks and couple bad picks... bastiodon in A is goated, zam in B is perfect etc... but my boy rampardos HAS to be at least C, he does good stuff on flan split, and u definitely overrated a few pokes like walrein and lopunny. loved the content though!

Walrein is a great Mon. Slow encore is very valuable and it tanks a lot of double crit situation. Lopunny is really good past Mega stone. Like it just is absurd. You can bait a lot of kills that do not see it because of the Mega interaction.
