It sold alright but not great cause the U was on a heavy decline, and then Nintendo just got lazy and never ported it over to the switch. Shame

Majoras mask streamlined the overworld compared to ocarina, created characters with far deeper backstories and personalities. Not to mention the dungeon design is peak Zelda, I don’t understand how it wouldn’t be on par with the others.

So true, Majoras mask is the most unique and deep Zelda game! Definitely on par with Ocarina and soo much better than twilight princess IMO!!!! Plus it has one of the most brilliant melancholy soundtracks ever!!!!! Music has played a much less important role and hasn't been the focus for newer Z games unfortunately... I blame it on the fact that they're original composer koji kondo has been gradually stepping back and letting other composers make the newer soundtracks (they're decent but not as amazing) The visual aspects of the games have improved more recently which is still an upside.. but its like a trade off

Pacing. A lot of wacky things happening with the time travel mechanic, and some sidequests are ehh and others are amazing and they are the main thing about the game. Also, the N64 original is so buggy and obviously rushed, the saving system is horrible...

Twilight Princess was the "Zelda formula" at it's peak. Everything that made Ocarina of Time great was pushed to 11 and it's just the best in that regard.

Twilight princess also brought attention back to the series. Windwaker was good but it came out at the wrong time and many ppl felt Nintendo was going kiddy. Twilight princess re-established the Zelda franchise as a gritty fantasy. And it worked.

It is obvious that LOTR fantasy gave the Legend of Zelda much of its aesthetics. But out of all the Zelda games I think the one which wears its LOTR inspiration on its sleeve the most is Twilight Princess. The Jackson movies were also ending around the start of TP's development, so I think the point is clear. I really love TP for those reasons, that it seems smarter and more adult than most of the other Zeldas. And the art design choices really put it on top for me.

I'm currently replaying A Link to the Past, and it's amazing how timeless the dungeon design is. I love how dungeons require multiple items. There is some amazing use of verticality in a 2D game too. For example, you have to drop down a bridge in the Dark Palace. I also love when the overworld and dungeon mix like in Skull Woods.

@@ade1174 I loved ‘A Link Between Worlds’ but I didn’t enjoy ‘OoT’. I played it for the first time around 10 years ago and found the world empty and barren. ‘ALttP’ has a world that’s lived in. The villages are full of people with unique personalities. OoT is just dull. I guess you had to be there when it first released to think it was great?

@@BanshoShinra I usually see it on the bottom of the list for 3D Zelda tier lists, which makes absolutely no sense. I've also met people who have hated the game for some weird reason. Twilight Princess is probably the pinnacle of the traditional 3D Zelda series. The dungeons were some of the best in the series, it has the best companion character, and the best combat. The tone/atmosphere of the game paired with the darker visuals is also the best in any Zelda game.

As a kid from the 70s!! Breath of the Wild is the best game I’ve ever played. Ocarina of Time was in a class of one at the time and a Link to the Past I still play every couple of years. Wind Waker is still worth your time as is Twighlight Princess.

The last Zelda I played was Majora's mask, I came back to botw, and just started it a few months ago, I'll tell ya, if I didn't have to work 10 hours a day and some weekends, I would do nothing but play BOTW. It's amazing.

I actually really liked Majora's Mask, and while I can see the whole time thing getting in the way sometimes (it did), overall I liked the sense of "hurry the f--- up or you're gonna die" kind of dread that it brought. It could really get intense. Admittedly, it could also piss you off, but there are also songs that you can learn and use later in the game that you can use (and sometimes have to) to mitigate the game's normal time progression.

They were my Zelda intro and remain some of my favs too! The rail puzzles still take me awhile to figure out when I replayed it a few years back 😂 I will always hope that Nintendo one day revisits them and remakes them but with the 3rd intended game also created! (The original concept for the games was a set of three games, but it got too complicated from my understanding for the gb)

Hot take: Skyward Sword and Oracle of Ages/Seasons are excellent!! IMO. Skyward Sword (I never had an issue with the Wii controls at the time I even thought it was refreshing) and I like the game as much as Twilight Princess and Ocarina of Time. Oracle of Seasons/Ages were my first Zelda games I ever played, which means they are still my favorite 2D Zelda games.

Damn, Majora's Mask was the first Zelda game I *LOVED.* I had 2 copies of Zelda 1 on NES (don't know why), played through LTTP (slowly), bought OoT at launch & never finished it, then somehow got absolutely hooked to MM. From there, my appreciation for the series skyrocketed, and I made a concerted effort to play through all future Zelda games. Until BotW, it was still my favorite. Bummed to see it so low, but hey, not all games resonate with everybody the same way! 😁

I think there's a few points where you don't seem to know that Link's awakening came *after* link to the past. When awakening came out it was like they miniaturized a bunch of graphics from link to the past ... Which was kind of an impressive technical feat.

I didn't watch this video at 1st. I waited a couple days but once I seen it I love it. Ocarina of Time was the best Zelda game because of nostalgia. But before breath of the wild obviously the best Zelda game ever made was Twilight princess. It had darkness, it had graphics it had everything. This is the graphic style I want Zelda to return to in the next generation of Zelda on the switch pro. I mean we should have a zelda that looks like horizon dawn in 4k. But at the same time I'm so addicted to this new anime style I would like them to put this anime style more detailed and in 4k

I played TP(HD) for the first time, left it half way as I felt it very "tunnel" based and weird, I guess it was because I had only played ALTTP, WWHD, BOTW, LA-remake which are more open. I didn't want to leave a Zelda unfinished so got back at it again and tried ...it became one of my top Zelda games, almost sheared a tear, it left me wanting more "Zelda". Also, I think A Link Between Worlds is not talked about enough, I finished it 2 months ago and it was awesome, strangely, it now makes me feel ALTTP a bit ...thined down.

The 2D to 3D transition of a link to the past to ocarina of time can only be compared to super Metroid to Metroid prime. Amazing games that borrowed from each other, and how these franchises doubled down on greatness.

I mostly agree with your list with a couple exceptions. Skyward Sword on the Wii was great because it made me feel like I was swinging a sword. My top three is Twilight, then Ocarina then Breath.

Unpopular opinion Skyward Sword is my favorite Zelda game and this is coming from someone with Ersb Palsy in his right hand/arm and had a hard time with motion controls. The story was great and I loved the gameplay and the remaastered version on the switch with the improved controls further established it for me. Then it’s Wind Waker HD and 3rd Breath of the Wild

I don't get why people hate Majora's Mask so much. I loved the overall darker fatalist tone it had and the time travel and tracking mechanic opened a lot of dynamic variation in all areas. Some of the masks were pretty useless, but they added a lot of flavor to the game. I happen to prefer the original N64 version more than the 3DS remaster as well. While I like some of the improvements, I feel they went too far with making it needlessly easier. I will stand by your choice to put Twilight Princess in the excellent category! Midna is probably the best sidekick, Link has ever had.

I guess some people don't like the whole 3 day cycle and wanting more of something like Ocarina of Time. While I respect people's opinion, I do agree that Majora's Mask is alot better than people give it credit for. I go as far to say I think it's superior to Ocarina of Time.

What I loved about lttp is that you used multiple items from previous dungeons to solve puzzles in subsequent dungeons. The jump to 3d dramatically toned this down. This was especially my issue with twilight princess. Just about every puzzle in each dungeon was solved with that dungeon's items.

I've never played Twilight princess but I played Link between worlds and it had that problem I never really felt like that before. Also a lot of people are using this description to describe link to the past but I think links Awakening did it really well.

I played TP(HD) for the first time, left it half way as I felt it very "tunnel" based and weird, I guess it was because I had only played ALTTP, WWHD, BOTW, LA-remake which are more open. I didn't want to leave a Zelda unfinished so got back at it again and tried ...it became one of my top Zelda games, almost sheared a tear, it left me wanting more "Zelda". Also, I think A Link Between Worlds is not talked about enough, I finished it 2 months ago and it was awesome, strangely, it now makes me feel of ALTTP as a bit ...thined down.

The original Zelda is the main reason I bought an NES back in the day, then Link to the Past came out when I was in college and remained my favorite game since. (To be fair, I had about a 20-25 year break in gaming after SNES/graduating college ie having bills) and just got back into gaming as my favorite pastime the past few years with the mini retro systems then Switch. Trying to work my way through the Zelda history I’ve missed out on with Switch online

Everything you said that was great about the gameboy version of Link’s Awakening applies to the Switch remaster. But the Switch version has much better controls (no longer having to switch equipment all the time to be able to use the feather). I played Link’s Awakening DX on my gameboy color back in the day and loved it. The switch version is just a slightly better version of it, so of course I love it, too!

One of my best memories of Legends of Zelda Link's Awakening. After I got the game, I remember skipping school and heading to an abandoned train track. I sat there on the tracks playing all day. Of course I took some lunch and some extra batteries. But that was a great day. And kids, I don't recommend skipping school just to play video games all day long.

2:46 lol and they refilled your health. I remember playing the first legend of Zelda as a kid. It's one of the games that got me into adventure games. But ocarina time is what made me a true Zelda fan. I remember I was 14 years old I was babysitting and they had a Nintendo 64, I noticed legend of Zelda ocarina time. I played a little bit of it and I was hooked. Years later I bought the 3DS version one and it was so satisfying that that was one of the very first Zelda games I ever beaten. Other games I liked was the minish cap, a link between worlds, and breath of the wild

A Link Between Worlds is actually one of the better 2D Zelda’s in my opinion. Yeah I suppose it’s not talked about as much these days but then again not many of the portable entries are. I feel that has more to do with the platforms they’re on than the quality of the games themselves. A 3DS Zelda game just wouldn’t be talked about as much as BotW or Skyward Sword generally because it’s perceived smaller and thus less notable. But I think there’s a ton of great game design and storytelling in it. Only thing I’m still not a fan of is the art style, similar feelings on the LA remake but that’s just me. Overall my favorite is probably BotW. I know that’s a normie take and I really don’t care. Personally, I respect OoT more than I enjoy it (like with most of the N64 library these days) but it was my second Zelda game (we’ll get to the first) and obviously super important in video game history so it has its place. Actually feel similarly about Majora. Love everything about it *but* the actual structure and moment to moment gameplay. Humorously enough, *Spirit Tracks* of all things was the first Zelda game I ever played, so I’ve always had a particular softness for it and also a sadness that it’s often just outright overlooked. Obviously having the context of the more essential titles under my belt I can understand why, but I still will argue that it’s a perfectly solid nice little charming DS game. I’ve also still yet to play Wind Waker itself which might be offensive but I’ve honestly been holding out for the hypothetical switch port, which by now maybe I should just boot up that GameCube copy already and get it over with… 😅

Couldn’t agree more with this assessment. 100% spot on. Link to the Past was always one of my favorites and I’d always recommend that game as a starting point for someone’s first Zelda game. It’s an amazing game that’s polished, has clear instructions on where to go, isn’t too long and shows you what the series is all about. From there OoT, Twilight then BoTW. All incredible games. OoT’s controls and graphics haven’t aged well, along with the fact that it’s easy to lose track of what you need to do, but it’s still a must play.

Open world in the modern HD Setting was cool but the plot literally took place 100 years before we start the actual gameplay. No hate but in my opinion BOTW just wasn't that great ! Hopefully Tears of the Kingdom lives up to the hype ! 🙏🏽
