i think milano, bologna or pisa shold be lower in a list for someone coming from abroad who needs to pick some city and discard others. if you are near pisa, lucca is more attractive, if you are near bologna, rimini is much better (and closer to urbino, that is a graet advice!). if you're in milan, remember that the best thing of milan is the train to rome. italy is not easy for a tourist: we have several wonderful city and dozens of small city you can visit in a couple of days or less (like siena is) but you need a car or a bike to see. po's valley (mantova, parma-don't forget teatro farnese!-modena, reggio emilia, ravenna, rimini, ferrara, padova!!!,venezia), tuscany (lucca, pisa, pistoia, arezzo, cortona, siena, firenze), puglia (bari, andria, matera is close to puglia, lecce, otranto, ostuni, nardò, locorotondo etc), are just the three most famous example of places where you can see lots of wonderful places in few hours but need a car or a bike. if you have few days, i think padova, lucca, rimini, are better choices for strangers than milano, pisa or bologna.

Kudos to you Gregor for having Mantua and Turin on your list! These are two of my favorite places that I've been in Italy, and I think both of them are completely overlooked by the vast majority of American tourists, which is a great thing for those in the know. One other overlooked destination which could be paired with a trip to Torino is Stresa on Lake Maggiore. It's kind of a small town, so not in the same league as the cities you're listing here, but it is an amazing base for exploring the lake, which even extends into Switzerland. There's lots of fresh fish from the lake, amazing villas to visit, complete with the white peacocks, and inexpensive boat rides all over the place to really cool destinations. All surrounded by gorgeous mountains! Thanks also for highlighting a few places that I really must go. I have gone through Bologna several times without actually visiting the city, and I desperately want to spend some time there!

Everyone has their favorites and I've been to many of these on your list. I would add Cagliari, just because Sardinia needs some love (and their unique foods and best beaches in Europe). Also, for those that love the outdoors anywhere in the Dolomites brings a new perspective on Italy. Great video and thanks.

Waiting for cities that arent so touristy! Bolzano up north, Trieste north of Venice, Matera in the South, Sulmona in Abbruzzo and in Sicily - Cefalu, Agrigento, Syracusa. Yes l went to most on your List but there are lesser known areas in Italy that never get a mention. For me Rome is my no.1. Naples and below blew my mind last year. Cant wait to get back to Sicily next year .

My in-laws have been to Italy five times and they still have regions they haven't visited yet. We're going next summer, and Rome (landing there from YUL), Naples and Amalfi and/or Positano are on the list, with Pompeii as well as Larino (my nonno was born there) and Termoli in the Molise region.

Siracusa in Sicily is one of the most amazing seaside cities anywhere! Even though it is hardly ignored by tourists, it's not on the radar for most Americans, who seem to think that Syracuse is a college in upstate New York. Taormina is also really cool, but it is a bit touristy. It's surrounded by a bunch of nice little beach towns with hardly any tourists.

I would have added Syracuse as well, one of the best historical centres of all southern Italy. Also, you call it tier list but I don't really see any tier, this is more like a regular ranking.

My favorite is Firenze and then Rome. I haven’t been to all of these cities, but the only city that I disagree with is Milan. I found the city disappointing besides from the Duomo and the Sforza Castle, but he food was good.

Firenze, the birthplace of gelato? Isn't it Sicily, where cooks modified the Muslim's version of sherbet? I know it's not really certain, but the Sicilian version makes more sense to me.
